Question!

Two years ago, I purchased an expensive BBQ cover for my outdoor grill.

Last September, a squirrel decided to strip the lining and use it for a nice comfy nest! I don't begrudge the little guy keeping warm but don't want the same thing happening again this year, as I need to replace that cover before winter sets in.

Is there anything I can spray or sprinkle, that won't cause any harm to the squirrel, on the inside of the cover to deter him/her???

Hardware store might have some "Squirrel Deterrent". Our Ace has it, never used it, but it's for under houses to keep the critters from chewing up into the wiring, duct work, and floors. I imagine it would work for BBQ's?

Squirrel Repellants

Ropel ® is a long lasting, extremely bad tasting commercial repellant and will stop squirrels and many other animals from chewing things, such as wood, wire, screens, lawn furniture, etc. It is available at many garden centers.
Hot Pepper Repellant Recipe

You need:

  1. One chopped yellow onion
  2. One chopped Jalapeno pepper
  3. One tablespoon of Cayenne Pepper

Boil ingredients for 20 minutes in two quarts of water. Then let it cool and strain the mixture through cheesecloth. You can apply this with a pesticide sprayer or a spray bottle. This will deter just about any animal from an area where it is applied. The only drawback is that it only lasts for three to five days.

Spray with a repellant, such as Ropel ®.
Spray a mixture of 1 tablespoon of Tabasco sauce ® in 1 quart of water.

Thanks, Bernina! I never even thought about a commercial spray. I have a difficult time getting a lot of the Brand name items here in Canada. I will check at the Co-op and hardware store the next time I'm in town.

The hot pepper recipe would work, but I'd be from now until winter sets in re-applying it!

Oh, Niner, I hadn't thought about a conspiracy, but I wouldn't think so. They wouldn't do anything to tarnish their reputations, IMO. And they are religiously devout. But I did have one thought and that was Serena probably told Venus to crush Bencic because Serena doesn't like anyone to beat her. Its been said she retaliates when anyone does! :D

We had a storm blow through the metroplex this afternoon. It blew the recycling and trash bins down the street and it poured thirty minutes straight.

Not sure if you're interested but I've started following this one: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?575-Dr-Teresa-Sievers

There were about nine threads running before the dedicated forum was started a few days ago. It's an interesting case.

Sheriff Mike Scott will be a guest on Blog Talk Radio this evening: Sheriff Mike Scott/Sievers Murder Case/Wed Sept 9th @ 7 PM EASTERN ON BLOGTALKRADIO

Hi Jas ~
That is were my interest has been too! Especially since they arrested her husband's "best friend" who lives in a completely different state. I just can't see anyway around him not being involved. And all the 🤬🤬🤬's??? Asking for a million dollars...

I miss the plain ole "Discussions threads." There are so many different threads now and it is confusing. There used to be a 100 + members and just as many "guests" reading, but since they changed it to categories, hardly anyone. We are all lost and confused.
Beware, if anyone goes there...there are some mean posters! I think half of them are still on timeout? Or they are as lost/confused as I am.

Have you got your test results back yet?? Sending you positive vibes and HUGS!!!

Just catching up, but I still have a lot of reading to do.

Me too Neesaski. I'm still reading the last thread!

Exactly!! GigiG, you are a wonderful person and I what you are saying about your kids and your relationship with them gives me the creeps.
How precious! I'm so happy for you.

Oh Susza, you are so precious! This obviously is a auto correct mistake, or possibly a language barrier ? ~
Because I know you, and there is no way you would ever say or even mean this.
I have to say though, it did give me a much needed laugh today

If this a term of endearment in your Country, then
 you give us the creeps, because we adore you!

Hi, Dmacky!

Thank you so much for the positive vibes and hugs :loveyou:. I have an appointment for Sept. 21st, so I won't know anything until then. I don't know what's worse, the waiting or the worrying!

That sure is an interesting case. I hear you about the changeover to the dedicated forum. I think it will take awhile for everyone to get used to that.

The 🤬🤬🤬's - absolutely disgusting and in very poor taste, given the date they were set up and MS posting about it on his FB :fishy:. That's JMO!

Did you get to tune into the radio show? I was able to listen but wasn't able to sign into the chat room - guess the site was on overload?!

ETA, I'm also following this case. What a piece of work :liar:. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...er-wife-fell-off-cliff-previous-wife-died-too

I got a nice response from my senator Flake about the Endangered Species Act:

Thank you for contacting me about the Endangered Species Act (ESA). As you may know, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) serves to protect and conserve species identified as threatened or endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Marine Fisheries Service. While protecting wildlife and endangered species for future generations is imperative, I tend to believe that the states should take a primary role in managing these natural treasures. All too often, federal regulations become economic restrictions while providing little or no environmental benefit and ignoring the concerns of local stakeholders and state contributions to conservation. Moreover, the Fish and Wildlife Service has the authority to add or remove animals from the ESA should it ever encounter population data that demonstrates the need for such action.
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Please do not hesitate to do so again in the future. I also encourage you to visit my website at flake.senate.gov.

Sincerely,

JEFF FLAKE
United States Senator

It applies to what we're looking at with the whole Salt River Horse situation.
Wolves? I think that should be Fed + State by State, giving the State *more* power to protect endangered species beyond the Federal, but not less.
Arizona Game and Fish protect my right to have wolf dogs, or any domestic/wild cross breed, where in several other States it does not. When I was active in the Wolfdog Alliance, the only city in Arizona which had a ban on wolfdog ownership was Tucson, don't know if that's still in effect.
Sarah Palin really chapped my hide with her wolf hunt rhetoric. If she claims the wolves are cutting into the elk herds in Alaska, maybe they need to cut back on the elk permits given out each year to out of state hunters. The Alaskan tribes should have their hunting rights, people off the grid 2nd, legal residents 3rd.
It's not the wolf that is bringing down the elk numbers, it's placing the hunt number higher than what nature can maintain.

Cattleman in Wyoming, Montana, and the like? Again, restrict the hunt number for elk and deer so the wolves can go after their natural prey..........but lets face it, cattle have been domesticated to the point of stupid. Take away their horns and they have no defense. Cattlemen are against wolves, and elk and bison<--brucellosis is passed on by those 2. This costs cattleman $$$ in vaccinations, they don't like that. Without wild herds to sustain the wolves, they go after cattle, which is like shooting fish in a barrel with a shotgun. Cattleman don't want to be bothered with wolf deterrents.

Then you have the situation back East where the wolf was all but disseminated, and the population of deer and coyote have gotten to the point of being dangerous and suburbanized. Put the wolf back in, and it will adjust.

Wolves, by nature, sustain themselves more on rodents, rabbits, mice, birds, etc., than big game. The old, young, and sick are what they go after as far as the bigger animals. The only predator for the wolf is man, which tends to keep coyotes, bears, mountain lions, and bob cats away from the territories.

Had to get that off my chest............:scared:
