I feel like they may have sugar coated the boys weight loss a bit. An average of 2 KIlometers? I lose that in a week on a healthy diet.

kilograms, Creepy❤︎ lol :)

But the kids were thin, lanky and sinewy to begin with - they didn't have much to lose - and 2kg is a larger percentage of body weight for them.

Also, perhaps that's after coming out, after being fed while they were in there.

Lol! I changed it but not fast enough. You caught me!

Anyway the number just seems small to me for kids that hadn’t eaten a real meal in 18 days. But it’s possible their last check up was a while ago. So they may not know the real amount they lost.

I had the exact same thought. It doesn't seem possible that's all they lost.

Spanish diver Fernando Regal, who was part of the rescue operation, tells the BBC that: “[The boys] were sedated, they were unconscious, they were breathing.” #thamluang #ถ้ำหลวง #13ชีวิตติดถ้ำ #13ชีวิตรอดแล้ว #พาหมูป่ากลับบ้าน #ThailandCaveRescue
really? what's the consensus of this being true?
I assumed they would be sedated, but thought they'd still be conscious. So, they were essentially carried the whole way then, huh?

I thought it was after the 4 SEALs got out? So, they had to dive throught that?
I guess I got some more reading to do...

They hadn't eaten regular meals, but I kinda assumed that they were given hi-calorie IVs while they slept. but really idk...

All seem relatively well! All with High white blood cell counts, though... one or two with lung trouble.. slight pneumonia - but pretty good!
Not a whole lot out there, last time I skimmed anyway. I'm kinda in a stupor right now... lol

2 kilos is about 5 pounds. A normal healthy weight loss diet would be about 1 pound a week. So a 2 kilo weight loss in one week, is not a healthy diet. It would be a serious health issue, if it continued for any length of time. For most of those boys that was about a 5% weight loss in a short time.

This is actually really interesting or my life is boring ah. Watching the rush hour traffic in Thailand is neat! Kids holding on to their parents on motor bikes going to school :) Some people have passengers on their motorbikes that are looking at their phones. They also drive on the wrong side of the road  :D

OR we are!!!

it has been fun it reminds of the APril thread that was joyous as well

What was the April thread? Not often we can describe a case as "joyous", I'm still buzzing that this one ended well.

Someone asked on an earlier thread if any of the divers were Canadian. BBC news names and has photos of the divers who were instrumental in bringing out the boys. One of the divers was from Canada, Erik Brown, from Vancouver.

Final group was pulled from Thai cave just before water pump malfunction

Final group was pulled from Thai cave just before water pump malfunction

"Well, three of the SEALs, there's four of them back there, three of them made their way into chamber three and about the same time we got the word that the pumps that had been running nonstop shut off for an unknown reason and the water levels back in chamber three started rising which would have cut off our access back to chambers two, one and then out of the cave. And that's an abort criteria for our guys and so when that water level started rising everybody started grabbing their kid and they were ready to get out. Thankfully that last SEAL popped up at the last moment and everyone was able to get out of chamber three safely and make their way out and mission complete," Hodges said.

Apologies if already posted.

Thai cave rescue: water pumps failed just after last boy escaped

"The rescue operation to free the last of the 12 boys and their football coach from a Thailand cave could have been a disaster, divers have revealed, with water pumps draining the area failing just hours after the last boy had been evacuated.

Divers and rescue workers were still more than 1.5km inside the cave clearing up equipment when the main pump failed, leading water levels to rapidly increase, three Australian divers involved in the operation told the Guardian on Wednesday, in the first detailed account of the mission to be published.

The trio, stationed at “chamber three”, a base inside the cave, said they heard screaming and saw a rush of head torches from deeper inside the tunnel as workers scrambled to reach dry ground."
