Thailand - FOUND ALIVE - 12 Boys And Coach Rescued from Cave, 23 June 2018 #6

  • #221
Some had been asking about this previously on the thread. I hope this gets settled so ALL can make it to the Manchester invitation next year.

Coach Ek the unlikely stateless hero of Thai cave drama

Many are from nomadic hill tribes and other ethnic groups who have for centuries lived around Mae Sai, the heart of the "Golden Triangle" -- a lawless wedge of land bisecting Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and China.

- 'No nationality. No country' -

Among the stateless are Ek and three of the boys who were trapped in the cave alongside him -- Dul, Mark and Tee -- the founder of the Wild Boars club Nopparat Khanthavong told AFP.

"To get nationality is the biggest hope for the boys... in the past these boys have problems travelling to play matches outside of Chiang Rai," he added, because of travel restrictions that accompany their lack of status.

Without passports they are unlikely to be able to take up the invite from Manchester United FC to visit next season.

No footballs trips for you boys but you will get a all expense paid trip to the Monastery! Hehe. Just joking ;)

SBS News on Twitter
Great little video of them all cheering after the final SEALS walked out of the cave.

The last rescuers emerge from a Thai cave after their successful mission to save 12 boys and their football coach. bit.ly/2L5h07O

Im so happy and thankful this ended well.

I still feel sad for the one seal who lost his life in the process. But glad there were no more deaths.

Its an amazing story and will become etched in history now. To follow it live while it happened is an amazing thing.

Thanks to everyone for sharing all the news.

Someone asked on an earlier thread if any of the divers were Canadian. BBC news names and has photos of the divers who were instrumental in bringing out the boys. One of the divers was from Canada, Erik Brown, from Vancouver.

The heroes who saved the Wild Boars

Makes me proud. Very quite about it all too.
Handsome chap.

A single still shot from Thai TV news, of one of the boys in the hospital.

Also, video of operations in the cave. (I think it was already released before.)

ETA corrected "tunnel" to cave (still in a stupor I guess!)

i bet a crappy book will be out in three weeks yes yes we all will probably get it and by the end of it realize that we all together found out all that is in it!! the book a year from now however will be amazing.

I would love a super technical book as well !!

Hopefully the movie will be done well and be a smash but kinda think there will be a crappy quick film first for money !!

I'd also like to see a documentary of all the "unsung" heroes.
But, I suppose after that, I guess then they'd be "sung".

Yes, good video of extractions from cave - shows what appears to be relay teams of rescuers passing the boy on a stretcher along the way.

Final group was pulled from Thai cave just before water pump malfunction

Final group was pulled from Thai cave just before water pump malfunction

"Well, three of the SEALs, there's four of them back there, three of them made their way into chamber three and about the same time we got the word that the pumps that had been running nonstop shut off for an unknown reason and the water levels back in chamber three started rising which would have cut off our access back to chambers two, one and then out of the cave. And that's an abort criteria for our guys and so when that water level started rising everybody started grabbing their kid and they were ready to get out. Thankfully that last SEAL popped up at the last moment and everyone was able to get out of chamber three safely and make their way out and mission complete," Hodges said.

Just amazing. I'm still in awe of how hard all of these people worked to rescue everyone safely. Incredibly dangerous and grueling work in unbelievably harsh conditions. So much credit goes to everyone.

Totally off topic, but I just watched the video of the boys in hospital and as a lot of the parents were in yellow I wondered if it was from Monday, the reason being that Thais like to wear certain colours on certain days. I noticed this a lot when I was there, especially in Bangkok. Funny quirk but one that still really tickles me!!

Monday yellow or cream
Tuesday pink
Wednesday green or grey
Thursday orange or brown
Friday light blue
Saturday purple or black
Sunday red

Just tidied-up the list a bit 〜
a few corrections, updates, and
added all their nicknames
(Adul doesn't seem to use one)

So here are our Wild Boars อู๊ด OINK!
(I think the Thai oink pronunciation is OOD!) :)

Adul Samon 14
Duangphet Promthep 13 〜Tom
Sompong Jaiwong 13 〜Pong
Mongkol Boonpium 13 〜Mark
Chanin Wiboonrungrueng 11 〜Tun/Titan
Phornchid Kamluang 16 〜Tee
Prachuck Sutham 14 〜Note
Pirapat Sompianchai 16 〜Knight
Ekkarat Wongsukcan 14 〜Bew
Panumas Saengdee 13 〜Mig/Mick
Pipat Phothai 15 〜Nick
Nattawut Thakamsai 14 〜Toel/Tern
Ekkapol Chantawong 25 〜Coach Ake

I put Adul's name first, since he was the sweetiepie we all first saw and heard, speaking English to John and Rick, when they were found.
And I put Coach's name last since he, of course, wouldn't have it any other way.

There are several different spelling variations of their names, so I just used the ones that seem to be the most consistent in the articles.
Later, I will try to put the names in order of being taken out, and list date and times...
...but not sure if all of that info is even out there.

Isn't that just incredible! The manpower, the logistics and the execution of this whole thing. I remain astounded!

Me too. The effort by all was astounding, epic etc etc. Right down to pics of the locals setting up food stalls and giving out underwear. What a testament to what a team can do.
