Love to hear of different traditions from all around the world. :)
Research Thailand. It is a beautiful Country and their tradition etc. quite interesting. As I said earlier it is on our bucket list. I spent hrs. and hrs. last year researching. Lot's of Ex pats.

Please excuse this, but it has occurred to me, that I won't have properly celebrated this fabulous mission success until I say, at least once,

HOOYAH!!!

OK, I feel complete now.

The other one that - literally - stopped me in my tracks was the National Anthem. Again, noticed more in the capital. Every day, twice a day, the anthem is played on loud speakers in public places and everybody just stops what they're doing and stands still while it's on. The first time it happened I was in a park and watched in bemusement/amusement as they all stopped (those sitting stood up and some yoga ladies paused their session) while the music was on. So funny, I thought, in a city where we are used to people rushing about, that they respect King and country enough to pay honour to him that way!

Thailand cave rescue: 'Tiny bit of hope became reality'

Speaking exclusively to the BBC, the head of the Thai navy seals has been describing his relief following the successful rescue operation of 12 boys and their coach from a cave in Thailand.

Interview by Kaona Pongpipat of BBC Thai. Filmed by Mohamed Madi and Tessa Wong.

'Tiny bit of hope became reality'

About a minute into this video he says something about the coach had the boys use rocks to dig 5 meters deeper in the cave in order to create a tunnel where they could keep warm. I had not seen anything like this mentioned before. Interesting.
The coach really was key to their survival until the rescuers found them. JMO.

Has anyone seen any pictures of coach? :( none that I saw from the new hospital pictures. I’m hoping I just missed them.

Sounds beautiful. We have a wedding to attend in Thailand soon on Koh Samui. So, I hope we get plenty of opportunity to experience their culture.

We're okay! Thai cave boys smile and wave from hospital beds as footage emerges of their daring rescue and new details of operation are reveale

Thai cave boys 'dived in zero visibility for half an hour at a time' | Daily Mail Online

A single still shot from Thai TV news, of one of the boys in the hospital.

Also, video of operations in the cave. (I think it was already released before.)

ETA corrected "tunnel" to cave (still in a stupor I guess!)
Too late to edit again, but just wanted to mention that this video shows them bringing out one of the boys. "Packaged" and seemingly groggy. Not sure if this was done for all, but I hope so! Finally seeing inside that cave, I don't think it could have been done any other way. Not with the boys in such ill condition.
So grateful for Dr. Harris.

July 8, drilling inside the cave. What a tremendous effort and strength, and perseverance, this must have taken

Awesome. The biggest take away for me, well maybe not the biggest is eat at the food stalls. We/most folk when travelling stay away from them. In Thailand you will have a wonderful food experience. Never pat a small child on the head, or point with a bare foot. Who does that anyway today??? Take a wrap/scarf if u visit Temples. Don't touch a Monk if u are Female, their cleansing process is huge!

I'm so happy to see video of them recovering and that they get to stay all together. I didn't think we would get to see hospital videos or photos. I do hope they are given privacy after this.

In the video above, (thanks Spellbound) there are only 7 boys
shown over and over. Have we seen the other 5 boys and coach?
Still worried about a couple and coach too.

Some had been asking about this previously on the thread. I hope this gets settled so ALL can make it to the Manchester invitation next year.

Coach Ek the unlikely stateless hero of Thai cave drama

Many are from nomadic hill tribes and other ethnic groups who have for centuries lived around Mae Sai, the heart of the "Golden Triangle" -- a lawless wedge of land bisecting Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and China.

- 'No nationality. No country' -

Among the stateless are Ek and three of the boys who were trapped in the cave alongside him -- Dul, Mark and Tee -- the founder of the Wild Boars club Nopparat Khanthavong told AFP.

"To get nationality is the biggest hope for the boys... in the past these boys have problems travelling to play matches outside of Chiang Rai," he added, because of travel restrictions that accompany their lack of status.

Without passports they are unlikely to be able to take up the invite from Manchester United FC to visit next season.

I think the King should automatically make them Thai citizens. If he is wise he will do this as an act of good will so that they can travel. Anywhere the Wild Boars team goes they will be like ambassadors for Thailand. Majority of people will not know anything about the nationality issues in that area of Thailand/Myanmar and will just see them all as Thai boys anyway. JMO.

(PS: I'm aware there are a lot of complicated political/social/religious issues that contributed to them being called "stateless" but it would not be the first time a world leader declared someone a citizen in order to foster good will or to reward someone for their acts of bravery).

It is fascinating to me, going back and looking at the enormous difficulties these people had to deal with. Link to Thai Navy Seals videos: Thai NavySEAL

It's so dark, moving the oxygen tanks! I cringed each time one clinked against rock:
