Thailand - FOUND ALIVE - 12 Boys And Coach Rescued from Cave, 23 June 2018 #6

I had always thought vet, that meant veteran, not veterinarian.

So we had two doctors that were familiar with giving dosages for sedation.

The stars were aligned that those two were chosen so quickly and were available.

That is a one-in-a-billion chance perhaps that a seasoned cave diver was also an anesthetist. And another cave diver was a veterinarian. That was so key to this entire rescue in my opinion.

I do Wonder although, how long it will take for it to get out in the public domain as to what they sedated the boys with. I would assume there is a non-disclosure on that, and I will be amazed if it is never leaked out. Because I know, even as a lay person, I would love to know what they did. But I do understand that they want to keep that information private.

There is a 1 hour video of the boys being inducted into the Buddhist ceremony live (captured) with shaven heads.

I don't know how to do a cut paste for a Facebook page, nor do I know if we're allowed to.

It is shown on the Navy Thai seals Facebook page, which I think might be okay to post here but I'm not sure so somebody else might be able to know how to do that and if it is okay.

Remember of thread that we were talking about a roll of toilet paper on The Breakfast Table.

Looking at this, I'm thinking that is a roll of twine perhaps. As I keep seeing photographs of twine on people's wrists. and in the ceremony before they covered the boys with twine one to another connected, and they are doing it again in this ceremony.

I'm just starting to watch it it is an hour long.

The Australian doctor involved in the Thai cave rescue has revealed that he taught divers how to administer dangerous anaesthetic drugs so they could sedate the Wild Boar team mid-rescue.

Dr Richard Harris provided the new details following a ceremony at Government House in Adelaide on Thursday, where he received a standing ovation.

He said the anaesthetic used during the dangerous rescue only lasted up to an hour, and it took about three hours to get each of the 12 boys and their soccer coach out.

"I had to basically teach the other cavers, the divers, to readminister the sedation when the time was right," Dr Harris said.

"All the children needed re-sedation at different times on the way out."

In Australia Vets are veterinarians.
I have read that the sedation was a form of Ketamine. I believe that. A friend of mine has quite recently had a bad motor cycle accident when her leg slammed into a tree and left six inches of her femur embedded in the trunk of the tree. She was given Ketamine and she told me that she was conscious and could hear people talking and touching her, but it was like they were doing it to someone else, not her.

Summary of new information from the first 15 minutes of the 20/20 show...

They did Proof of concept in a swimming pool with the local boys. The face masks were supplied by the United States.

The Thai Navy SEAL diver that died lost his mouthpiece and could not locate it.

They did dry runs of the air tanks throughout the cave in staging, using water bottles in a field. This was important because they wanted to ensure they had the right amount of air tanks and it was very important to differentiate whether they were full or empty.

They told the governor that they could realistically save 60 to 70% of the children, and that 3 to 5 children could realistically die during the operation.

Watching the 20/20 show right now.
This 20/20 show is totally AMAZING. Learning new information I had not known.

They did totally knock out the 1st boy with drugs. WOW

I think I heard Ketamine drug.

It sounds like all the boys were knocked out with same drug.

Its no wonder we heard news that some of the boys came out looking sick. They were knocked out with drugs. LOL

This is an amazing show. Well worth watching. Great footage from the cave.

Second 15 minutes of show....

4 British divers dove all the boys out; one boy, one diver. 2 are Chris Jewell, Jason Mallinson ( he volunteered to take out the first boy out)

The boys were very calm the day they went to get the first ones, and there was no sign of distress from the boys.

The Thai doctor that stayed with the boys in the cave, Dr. Bhak Loharium, said the boys had decided on their own which order they were going to go out. The boys that went out first lived the farthest away because they thought they had to Bicycle home.

It was verified that Dr. Harris gave him ketamine shot. To knock him out . The British divers said/demanded that they would not rescue them unless they were injected with this.

Jason Mallinson, when he took the first boy out, was very concerned that the sedative would not last the first 350 meter dive. ( three and a half football fields). His biggest concern was the face mask coming loose. Therefore, they were using 80% oxygen so that if they lost air it would be more likely the child could survive.

The first dive lasted about 20 minutes, two support divers were waiting to get the unconscious boy out of the water and to give him a medical check.

Oh bless their hearts. They thought that they had to ride their bikes home. I have kept dry eyed all through this thread, but that nearly did me in.

Part 3...

Part 3/ 3rd 15 minutes

Jason Mallinson quickly realized there was a flaw in the plan. He and two support divers had to physically carry the boy to the next checkpoint through a muddy older Spike channel one and a half football fields long!! Mallinson was physically exhausted, and he was struggling and the boy started to come out of the sedation.

He had to stop in the canal and take out of his bag the syringes and put on the needle to give him a shot in the leg to re administer the sedation with one hand. He had to do that three more times, and he had never given a shot to anyone before this. He had syringes floating around on the surface of the water.

He swam all the way to chamber 3 where the United States folks were. That is chamber 3 where they then took the blood pressure, oxygen levels of the boy, and put him on a stretcher. The stretcher that was green that we saw. For the remainder half mile section. It took 100 people to bring them this half mile to this series of Ziplines to make them move along. (Great video explaining on land)

Part 4...

Day 3 they had to bring out four boys the coach three Navy Seals and a military dr.

Jason mallinson had to do two dives. He got the coach and last boy.

Jewell was moving a boy, and lost guideline and mistakenly grabbed a electrical wire and headed the wrong way. He took the boy out of the water and realized that he was in the wrong chamber. He had to take off first his dive equipment and walk around to figure that out.

Meanwhile mallinson had issues with the 13 year-old last boy named Mark. He was the small boy and there was a gap in the diving mask. They had to use a different type of mask. That mask did not have a very good seal. But they felt that they had to go anyway. They could not communicate that they needed a different mask so they decided to go. He held a boy differently so his head hit instead of the boys possibly hitting. He said he hit his head a lot that day. And he would not want to do it ever again. He was concerned about hypothermia.

Thanks Dixiegirl for recapping. Great Job

It was a super good show on 20/20. A real feel good story. And yes a tear jerker too. But happy tears. :)

Back to Chris Jewell who lost guide line and went backward. He was concerned about the boy getting hypothermia..Dr Harris came across them and Harris took the boy, Jewell followed them out.

Jason Mallinson and last boy Mark ( who was supposed to be last out) passed them and made it out prior to them.

They then had clips of them in the hospital and homecoming and reviewing what we have seen before.

It reviewed the British and Australian Honors that the they were given, and boys entrance into Buddhist temple 9 days, and how they plan to meet the divers in person after they get out of the Temple.

The end.

What is the bet that the wealthier of the English and Australian rescuers set up an education fund for them? Border towns are notoriously poor places. Dangerous too.

Thank you for sharing this Dixiegirl!

Wow just wow! It's such a miracle they all came out alive! Bless them all.

It is not really a miracle. Good men did this.
