Posting this for all the teachers reading here:

In grainy video shot by the first rescue team to make contact with the boys, a British diver can be heard asking, "How many of you are there?"

In English, one boy answers, 13.

"I was so proud," says Wimonchat Jittalom, the school's enthusiastic English teacher. "Not only did he understand the question, but he was able to answer correctly!”

Oh ok thank you. I hadn't read that.

I'm amazed how quick the cave flooded and how much. Is it lower than the surrounding area?

Yes. But I'm guessing some of the higher areas that flooded before some of the lower areas were from cracks in the ceiling etc. The cave is like a maze from what I've seen.

C'mon now. Let's not leave out the Thai rescuers. They lost a Navy SEAL. They are all risking their lives.

They lost a volunteer diver who was a retired Navy Seal. He ran out of oxygen.
I am referring to the Cavers who go in and do rescues, not the professionals.

This is the second time now this had popped in my head, the first time I dismissed it:

An airplane that sucks water out? For some reason I am remembering this from somewhere...a lake search?? Or not...if so, it couldn’t land on it obviously but a sea plane... Sorry if this post makes zero sense and has zero applicability, mentioning t to make note to look that up or if I dreamed it.)

ETA: I just remembered duh!!!! They suck the water from the lakes to put out the wildfires. Phew, thought I was going mad there for a minute. Oh wait, too late.

Wait what about the Super Tanker?

Haha we can’t wven get the Super Tanker here right here right now omg colorado andbits parked at the springs!!!!!

And his first words were THANK YOU to the British Diver. It was precious! Made me cry...

The thought just crossed my mind that whatever they will do it's gonna get really dramatic. Yes it's already dramatic but it will be even more so when it rains and the water rises, or if and when they try to dive out. It's gonna be gut wrenching to follow it. :(

“Maze”...I like this word for some reason...

Jumping off this, Believe me when I tell you they do bomb testing in the ocean trenches frequently, seem and heard it wth my own eyes many times. Such data exists Im sure as far as impacts, etc...

As I said before: (if you pray)
Don't just pray for, but Demand a Miracle!

An all-encompassing miracle for these boys and their rescuers.
I will happen!

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

We need Gene Kranz.

Part of the initiation was to go to end of cave and write their name on wall.
That poor coach will probably be charged by the militaristic police.
the fact that it's already being discussed scares me.
Thailand has a horrible record in law enforcment. They imprison
people for life for drug possession and yet give a minor slap on the hand for violent spousal (women) murder. they have a
legal system that is still partly archaic and partly western but
it's crazy how they dole out punishment.
They will have to get him out first in order to charge him. But if they do, why shouldn't he be charged? He took a bunch of children into the cave during the rain season.

I know.... I had noticed that right away, too.
...and so many more thank you's after that.

GET THEM OUT!!!

Sorry I got distracted when I was responding. I know this, my daughter has been given anti-viral medication through IV in the past.

Where I was going with that was that I hoped they considered ALSO giving broad spectrum anti-viral medication as well. Though I'm not sure how practical or doable that is down there.

It would definitely have to be researched a bit more than antibiotics. At least the antibiotics were a start though.
They've all had exposure to crushed guano (making it airborne) in a contained environment without fresh air for 2 weeks. Histoplasmosis is a fungus that grows in guano and birds droppings including chicken feces. Many in the cave will likely have this fungal infection growing in their lungs now. The fungal infection symptoms begin around 2 weeks after exposure. It will start causing them to have fever, muscle pain, and non-productive coughing.

English is a mandatory full time subject in all Thai grades. A
travel board I was reading said most all locals speak english.

Not quite- the sign outside the cave entrance warns people that
the cave may flood July- October. They went in on June 23 so I'm
not so sure I'd say he's legally culpable. I'd say the local town/province is just as liable if the area is known to have flash floods during other months. Of course, imo, his judgement was
questionable.

I teach my kids a few basic words whenever we go abroad - hello, goodbye, please and thank you - as I think they need to be appreciate how lucky they are being brought up with English as their first language, and I will encourage them to say it in places like shops and restaurants. Every country I have ever been to makes a real effort to speak English and it's taught in schools from an early age, it's quite embarrassing really that on the whole we don't reciprocate. Granted we are tourists, or as the Thai would say 'farang' (foreigners) and their livelihoods depend on us, but even small children will take an interest and say hello.

I've got exactly a month to brush up my Italian!
