Do I need a Twitter Account to tweet the King? Is it easy to do?

Yes and it is super easy. Once you make an account, go to his page and hit the link that says Tweet to King Rama X

  • #523
I think this may be an anti-King account. The posts are not supportive of King Rama, and the website they point to is removethethaimonarchy.myfreewebsite

We ALL need to get the King to kick in the money and RAF planes
to get the cloud seeding going so that any rain comes down miles
from the cave instead of over the cave and mountain.
Send his majesty a friendly little tweet to help. Tell him he will be the most admired monarch in the whole world. build him up.

(I feel like I'm in the middle of Alice in Wonderland/Wizard of Oz meets Arnold and Sly...but these are actual people in real life, real children..this is all reallllly happpening...this is not a movie...this is all blowing my mind! Someone died last night trying to save these kids. What gets me is he us have been their best hope at the time if they sent him in first!

WHEN the boys make it out we will hear their accounts hopefully should they choooooose to tell us what happened in there. Remember the movie "Alive", was that based on true story of the Brazilian soccer team that crashed in the mountains (will never forget that crash scene)? Idk, anyway I'm sure you guys already talked about...got here a little late but am all here now! Thank goodness they have food, supplies, etc!)

I guess it’s a miracle that they have even been found. Let those miracles keep on rollin’. I suspect the angels are working overtime on all the incoming requests!
God Bless these children, bring them home safe.

Right now the British divers are looking pretty capable, moo. And they're used to cold waters.

I just learned my 18 and 12 year olds are both following this. I’m glad it’s so out there, I’m terribly sad that it’s even happening.

  • #530
Who's the next best man for the job? Should they decide to try to go in there again? Will they risk it twice? Could they maybe improve upon what they learned from the first dive? Like a second shot..."now that we know..."? A million thoughts running through my head, as I know are yours!!

(Oh no, I had all your quotes selected for multiquote, hit reply and bam nothing.)

Elon Musk is sending a team of engineers to Thailand to see if they can help authorities racing to save a dozen boys and their coach who are stranded in a cave there.

"SpaceX & Boring Co engineers headed to Thailand tomorrow to see if we can be helpful to govt," Musk tweeted just after midnight, California time, on Thursday night. "There are probably many complexities that are hard to appreciate without being there in person."

"Boring Co has advanced ground penetrating radar & is pretty good at digging holes," Musk wrote in an earlier tweet on Thursday.

Musk spent Thursday evening brainstorming about ways to help the boys and suggested another approach:

@JamesWorldSpace
replying to @elonmusk
SpaceX team reached out to us today to help connect to Thai govt. Our team connected and provided some prep feedback to your team. For pumps, cave has narrowest 70cm cross section and about 5km to 13 guys. For vertical drill, it’s about 1/2 mile down and tricky

@elonmusk
Maybe worth trying: insert a 1m diameter nylon tube (or shorter set of tubes for most difficult sections) through cave network & inflate with air like a bouncy castle. Should create an air tunnel underwater against cave roof & auto-conform to odd shapes like the 70cm hole.
10:29 PM - Jul 5, 2018

Musk was responding to a tweet by James Yenbamroong, an American-educated aerospace engineer who moved back to his native Thailand to start a satellite startup called mu Space Corp. He provided this image to illustrate the boys' predicament:

DhZ49loW0AMlYD4-640x333.jpg

"The critical 70cm cross section area has 15m in length," Yenbamroong tweeted, noting that this section is "2km away from entrance where pumps should be."

Musk elaborated on his plan in subsequent tweets:

Replying to @elonmusk @JamesWorldSpace
It's a 5 hour swim to get there.

Elon Musk

✔@elonmusk

Walking speed is around 5km/h, but if you’re in an air tube, time doesn’t matter much. If tube diameter was 1.5m, a fast walk of 5km would take 40 mins or so. Just need to duck for the narrow sections.
10:41 PM - Jul 5, 2018

Replying to @elonmusk @JamesWorldSpace
You would need an airlock at both ends

Elon Musk

✔@elonmusk

Replying to @chiefpad @JamesWorldSpace
Have a small velcro slit entrance & exit in circumferential direction (half stress of longitudinal direction)

✔@elonmusk

So long as air feed rate exceeds leak rate, tube remains inflated. This is how bouncy castles or inflatable mazes work. Needs very little power as the work (physics def of work) done is low. Pumping out water faster than it enters the cave system is prob 10X to 1000X more power.

Elon Musk has an idea for saving boys stranded in a Thailand cave

I can't read the Dutch, but the translation (through the browser) looks pretty good.

The headline says that it's "on or off this weekend"

""We expect that the first two footballers will still be at the exit today," says Reymenants."

"the visibility under water is already a lot better. Moreover, they do not have to swim a lot, they have an oxygen mask on them and they will almost always be kept on hand by one of the divers. In the third corridor there is air for breathing, where they will also be checked by a doctor."

Then it says the plan is currently to rescue four boys per day.

It also says that after the tragic death of the former Thai Navy Seal that some divers have asked to be replaced on the mission as it's hit them very hard.

There is definitely cloud seeding technology but I’d think with the sheer amount of rainfall during their monsoon season would prevent it from working.

“Luxury travel company Oliver's Travels is offering a 'perfect wedding day' package to high-end customers that promises to control the weather for just over $100,000.

To guarantee a sunny wedding day, the company employs a team of expert meteorologists and pilots to fly aircrafts above the clouds to 'seed' them with silver iodide - which causes the rain clouds to burst and disappear. The technique is a form of weather modification called 'cloud seeding,' which was developed in the late 1940s, according to Oliver's Travels.

Cloud seeding was used during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing to prevent rain during the opening and closing ceremonies. It was also used for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding in 2012, according to The Telegraph.”

A Luxury Travel Company Promises A Perfect, Rain Free Wedding Day For $100,000

("Wild pig team?" Birds'nest collectors? .....Anxiously reading to get caught up!!!)

IMHO it's about making back-up plans in case the dive attempt doesn't work out, or if they need to leave the weakest boys in the cave.

They're not in a static situation where you can make a plan of action, plus a back-up, and stick to it. Everything is in flux...the rainfall, the water depth in the cave, the oxygen levels in the cave, the amount of water that can be pumped out each day, the number of on-site experts for each specialty.

So the preferred option is going to change as the conditions change and they look out to expected conditions in the next 6/12/24/48+ hours.

I think they're probably doing a lot better than the mixed up media reports make it sound. They're keeping all options open, and the only options they do have available are bad options, but what I think they're doing is trying to work on all three options (stay, dive, drill) to find the least-bad option. They're taking supplies into the boys in case they have to stay. They're draining the water in preparation for diving. They've got people all over the mountains damming streams and piping water off the mountain, spelunkers and bird nest hunters looking for new passages into the caves. Inside the caves they're trying to build up the strength of the boys, teach them to breathe in oxygen masks, how to get in and under the water comfortably and safely. They're developing trust between the boys and the divers, which is going to be essential.

Another problem is that when its assessed that a new piece of equipment could be useful and is offered to them it has to be sent to an airport, board the next plane to Thailand, get to Thailand, then get transported to Chiang Rai, then put in its correct place at the site, whether that's at the base or the top of the mountain.

I'm also doubting that they will make an announcement when it does actually start (a diving rescue). On one hand it might be preferable to just see a boy come out of the entrance? On the other hand they might say that there's a strong possibility of an attempt in the next 24 hours and get the extra prayers and good thoughts coming in from Thailand and around the world.

Wild pig team is apparently a translation of the team name "The Wild Boars".

I dont know anything about how they operate but I did see a lot of that in the MH370 Malaysia airplane disappearance. It was like pulling teeth to get honest reporting. It sure made me appreciate the free press we have in the US.

It is very sad when the politics of any nation gets in the way of accomplishing an important goal. I sure hope they are not impeding decision making but I do have that fear.

THAILAND: There is no announcement about the beginning of the extraction of the #13survivors from the #ThamLuang cave. They got letters from thier parents, pipe with oxygen reached the chamber with the trapped kids. Air quality is ok. All the scenarios on the table

"governor says that divers who came out of the cave at 9pm tonight reported that the boys are in good health."

How about some action in removing the boys. Plans have been in place now for days.

Sorry I am getting jaded and need a break. From now on I am taking every report with a grain of salt and wont believe anything until I hear a boy is out of that cave.

Continued prayers for everyone involved.

This is my prediction----I think there may be 4 or 5 or even more boys, that are in satisfactory health, have some swimming skills, and are mentally prepared to try to dive out. I think they may go ahead and try to bring these stronger, motivated boys out before the rains hit hard.

Meanwhile, there are a probably a few that are in poor health, that may be incapable of the rigorous journey right now. So they will need to keep the pressure on their other experts: the drillers, pumpers, engineers, etc,- to come up with alternate methods to transport the remaining boys.

I think this is how it is shaping up right now. All my prayers and hopes and wishes for a miracle, here and now.

LOL it's Margarita having the chest pain.

Hope your ok Margarita

eh, Margarita, Bravo, enelram- we all have chest pains about now.

This feels more discouraging as these back-and-firth statements keep coming.
Thailand cave rescue: no attempt to get boys out tonight, says governor - live

No rescue attempt today
The governor, Narongsak Osottanakorn, is asked if he will try to rescue the boys today should the rain begin to fall. No, he says.

They cannot dive at this time.

That concludes the press conference. The governor has left:

Updated at 1.26pm EDT

30m ago 13:19
He says the British diver, who came out of the cave at 9pm (local time), reported that the boys were fine.

The governor adds that he speaks to the families every day and asks if they want him to bring out the children right now. He says he wants the minimum risk before attempting the rescue.

If it rains, he says, the authorities “will try” to bring them out.
---
32m ago 13:17

He is asked why the delay if they have already learned to dive. “Because we would like the minimum risk,” he says.

33m ago 13:16

The governor says they will need to “test the plan” once they have decided upon it. He adds that the boys have “already learned” to dive.

34m ago 13:15

The governor is asked if they will try to bring the boys out tonight, as per earlier reports.

We [will] try to set the best plan. If the risk is minimal, we will try. We are afraid of the weather and the oxygen in the cave. We have to try to set the plan and find which plan is the best.

Cold water had been poured on the rumours that an attempt would be made tonight, according to Michael Safi:

Tweets from Jacob Goldberg Jacob Goldberg (@yayqe) on Twitter

@benreymenants, the diver quoted as the source of all those optimistic assessments, has told us he never said that. how did that happen?

asked whether he still feels positively about the sotuation, the chiang rai governor said: “the world is perfect.”

there is no chance the boys will come out today. it is not suitable. they still cannot dive.

governor: “if it rains, and the situation is not good, we will try to bring the boys out.” asked if he would leave the boys inside for four months, he laughed.

governor says that divers who came out of the cave at 9pm tonight reported that the boys are in good health.
governor: “we need to make the plan that is the best plan.”

I feel sick. :(

I thought of this yesterday but it might be too scientificcaly advanced to even suggest for this area. I think the new gov. and interior
minister rode in on their burros.

'Diving skills are not adequate'

During a press conference earlier today, it was revealed that the boys' diving skills are not adequate enough to evacuate them.

The official in immediate charge of the operation, Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn, indicated strongly at a midnight news conference that if heavy rains started and appeared to be causing flooded areas in the cave to rise again, they would try to take the boys out with divers right away.

I too have a knot in my stomach and catch myself literally holding my breath. In the wee hours of the morning as I was falling asleep a thought kept going through my mind and still presents itself today. If you've ever been at the hospital with a loved one where the outcome is not certain the days of waiting begin to feel like a roller coaster. You get a good report, an encouraging word and you feel elated and think okay, we've got this. The next report can be negative and you know you have to be realistic no matter how painful those thoughts can be and you must brace yourself for a bad outcome. In hindsight after days of waiting it's clear how very up and way down you've been from hour to hour. History has shown some of the situations resolve when not a single person thought they would, others have ended with deep grief. That's how this feels to me.
We're all (hundreds of thousands all over the world) simply here because we have such heartfelt hopes for these precious boys, their precious coach and each and every single person working to save them. I'm so grateful to every worker and volunteer down to the men and women that keep the trash taken out to the people offering massages, haircuts, food, prayers, comfort. Wishing wisdom to those that are making such difficult decisions and must feel as if the weight of the world hangs on their shoulders. Such gratitude for those dear people.
Thank you for being there with me.

OK, get on this!!

Royal Thai Air Force - Wikipedia

After the PC I'm actually a little more relieved. I'm relieved they aren't rushing the boys out to dive. I'm relieved that the water is still declining, I'm relieved that they were able to get oxygen to the boys, and I'm relieved that more avenues have come on how they may rescue them. This has certainly brought on a roller coaster of emotions. I am so glad to have all of you to share them with. My family and friends at home haven't been glued to this case from day 1 as I have. So they don't really know what's going on. If these boys don't come out of this alive it will gut me, but I have faith that our countries will come together with the best way possible to get them out alive.

(OK I got it. You have to hit "insert quotes"..cool! I'm starting to get more comfortable with the new platform.)

Eta: OK no way I can reply to all that right now lol. I figured out about the team of pigs soon afterwards (head was a wreck didnt catch it the first time) but keep in mind they DID SAY they had a pig on site! I thought maybe they were going to test test the tunnel with the pigs or something...

(As they used to say "Elvis has left the building" ...coo-koo!!)

(Thanks for your concern everyone. You guys hang in there too. This is really tough. Would post some msm but I'm crossedyed right now. Been a while since I've been crosseyed here (seriously))

So, iirc the last confirmation was via a British cave diver (again)...
(Honestly, I'm sorry I want actual confirmation of this. Sorry to say, like Bravo said, cray cray.

As some may recall, I have some ocean experience and at one time contemplated searchdiving myself for Dylan's remains in a cold mountain lake (remember that...uughh..).but QUICKLY assessed no way could I do those conditions...that's part of being a diver I think..if they say they can't do it, they can't do it, moo. Because you have to believe you can do it before you can do it (craycray) Which means I'mo (gah can barely post, basically, focus on the rocks, etc, I'm staring at the mountains, )

Who are currently the best free divers in the world?

Do you guys remember the movie, with the French guy, he was a free diver..."into the blue" maybe?

OH MY gosh...I just had a great idea. At least I think I do (continued)

So, I remember from my old dive days studying or whatever you want to call it the different types of divers.

I remember reading an article about some of the best divers in the world who can sustain cold, dark, conditions. It's not just cave divers. It's oil rig divers and everything associated it with that. Guys down off Texas, Louisiana maybe? I think maybe I watched a show on it? On Discovery? Idk...anyway, I realize they are not experienced cave divers necessarily but they lay the pipes down, work on the rigs deeeep underground in cold murky conditions. These are some of the most dangerous diving conditions that can be undertaken while working on the heavy equipment.

It sounds like they have multiple approaches going simulataneously. Which is wise, hopefully nothing will conflict with each ither.

This takes some serious teamwork and collaboration.

You might be thinking of the North Sea rig divers...

Do they have enough food supplies if they need to stay until October? They should have lighting and internet if they don't already. Will a medic with supplies be staying with them? How do they bath? Brush their teeth, etc?

It was said that they have supplies for 4 months ready and two doctors have already volunteered to stay with them if it comes to that. I guess they will wash themselves with clean water and wipes that will be brought in, not a full bath/shower. They have light, Internet cable has also been mentioned but not installed yet.
