A little off topic but I just had to ask:

How many of you are annoyed that they are already advertising that the Tham Luang cave will be turned into a tourist attraction? Oh and also they are going to make some changes so the cave will be "safe for tourists."

Another thing that I find super annoying is Apple advertising under #ThamLuang on twitter.

Okay. Rant over.
What??? A tourist attraction?! This is revolting.
And gee, what could possibly go wrong?

So, seems like he’s not a big social media guy

I’m certainly not royalty but I don’t wear anything in public that I wouldn’t wanted posted on “People of Walmart”or whatever.
Lots of talk that he was raised as a spoiled brat and at 12 years old
still didn't know how to tie his shoes. He says he never had to learn
as he had servants do it for him. His father was King for 70 years
and was much loved as a supposed proponent for the poor citizens.
Lots of gossip about this King online-

I toured Antelope Canyon in AZ with a geology class years ago, we basically had to sign away our lives. One end of the canyon had been closed because tourists died in a flash flood and the end we traveled was open but still posed risks. We (mostly early 20’s) thought the danger was cool. It was amazing and I’d love to take my kids one day but the way flash floods happen I don’t know if I can do it.

I have some experience in scuba diving, particularly reef, cenote and some cave diving. So i know it would be incredible difficult for these brave kids to get out swimming (crawling), even with dive buddy and a hand line.

I've never been fond of Elon Musk and his methods, but I wish from the bottom of my heart he may become the hero now and do whatever it's needed, and fast, to save them ;(

(Also, praying hard to Tlaloc to hold the monsoon rain)

If this was FB that like would have been a WOW, as previously stated, I’m a peasant but my kids learn to do pretty much everything for themselves, because they will need to, with basic clothing and cooking skills well down pat by 10-12.

Checking on the boys & rescuers. Waiting on their safe exit from this horrible cave.

Isn't there a way, using modern technology, that rescuers could get a more accurate fix from above on where the boys are?

Yes, there is. It's called a radio cave locator and it's basically a beacon that transmits a radio wave from within the cave and lets people on the outside know precisely where the beacon – and the trapped people – are located.
It's unclear if authorities in Thailand are using such a beacon — or if it is making any difference to the rescue effort. Since drilling through such heavy rock would take weeks, having a precise location is probably a moot point.

I'm kind of thinking staying in the cave as long as the water levels can be controlled and everyone inside is taken care of might be the best idea thru the rains. Meanwhile, keep pumping and digging and diverting the water flow. The most important thing is no more loss of life, even it takes a little while.

I don’t think that is him, it claims to be a parody account

(Darn it would have been really cool to "tweet the king" some good vibes!)

It was said that they have supplies for 4 months ready and two doctors have already volunteered to stay with them if it comes to that. I guess they will wash themselves with clean water and wipes that will be brought in, not a full bath/shower. They have light, Internet cable has also been mentioned but not installed yet.

Will they really to allow others to stay? I might be akin to volnteering for a suicide mission. They can't guarantee the whole area won't flood. And it seems it very well may. With everything else they are doing, I hope they are still working on getting more powerful pumps and concentrating on diverting, damming, and draining the water. Hey triple D ...even triple P:

Procure Powerful Pumps
Divert, Dam, Drain!

The water is the biggest enemy.

I think this may be an anti-King account. The posts are not supportive of King Rama, and the website they point to is removethethaimonarchy.myfreewebsite

(Shakespeare would appreciate this.)

It says heavy rock, but the caverns are limestone which is not really heavy or dense. Do we know for sure the geology of the mountain? Limestone karst is very porous and very succeptible to erosion by water but not particularly dense or prone to collapsing because there are constantly fissures caused by erosion from the water seepage.

I was thinking a few days ago that they'd likely get some foreign visitors in to see the cave, but I think that's very tacky to start saying that or advertising it! These boys need to come out safely before anything like that is considered!

I agree.

Yes! I understand that it will bring revenue into their country, but please wait until after the rescue operation is successfully over before you start advertising this!

"An air line has been installed to the cave where the group has been trapped for nearly two weeks in a chamber in the Tham Luang cave complex."

*OK great. I remember last night/this morning this was one of the priority goals set.

******

"Narongsak Osotthanakorn said the health of most of the boys had "improved to normal", and that divers were continuing to teach diving and breathing techniques.

When asked if a rescue attempt would be made overnight if it started to rain, he said: "No, the boys can't dive at this time.""

"Speaking to reporters on Friday, the governor of the Chiang Rai region, where the cave is situated, said the boys had enough strength to walk but could not swim to safety.

"Mr Narongsak said the boys were "OK" and the air they were breathing was good.

On Thursday their parents sent letters in for the boys to read - but the governor said he was not sure if these had reached them yet.

Rescuers have dug more than 100 holes, hoping to reach the cave by a direct route. There were 18 promising ones, the deepest at 400m, but Mr Narongsak said he was not sure if it would reach the boys, who are believed to be about 600m below the surface."

Snip

"Mr Narongsak said discussions regarding the lowest risk rescue attempts were ongoing, but acknowledged that time was against them.

"We will try to set the best plan, when the risk is minimal, we will try to bring them out," he said.

He added that the rains had stopped in the past few days, giving the rescue operation some space to make several areas in the cave dry enough for rescue workers to access.

He also said that when teams had stopped pumping water for 12 minutes during the day on Friday, the water level in the cave rose by 10cm (4in)."

Wish we could get an update on the progress they're making
on diverting and draining water. Like how many inches down
is the water in the deep areas, etc. How much more needs to be pumped out to reduce any diving. How close are they to being able to walk the boys out? Are they making any real headway?

We need facts. But with a controlled media we may not get any
concrete facts.

Read online that a military dictatorship took over Thailand in
a military coup in 2014. so that could be why information is
so controlled now.
And yes, previous Govenor was demoted to another area. Hope
he wasn't exiled or be-headed.

Thailand cave rescue: Why can't they drill from above, other questions you want answered

"Forrest Wilson, the chief diving officer for the National Cave Rescue Commission and who has 50 years of cave diving experience, including several rescues, said drilling into the cave from above is not impossible. But the maps of the cave are not accurate enough to get a good fix on exactly where to drill.

"It will take a long time to drill through a half a kilometer of cave," Wilson said. "I don't think there's time.""

Snip

"In the late 1970s, Wilson and others rescued a group of college students in Kentucky under somewhat similar circumstances. The students went into a dry cave that, after a heavy rain, became filled with enough water to block their way out. Eventually, all of the students were rescued after divers kept them well stocked with blankets and food."
