Has it ever been said how large the space is where they're now sitting?

I'm going off memory here, but IIRC the encampment they are on is 3 meters high and 8 meters wide. Not such a large space when it comes to oxygen levels.

Thai officials aim to rescue kids from cave before rain hits

Not much new info but it's current and from a trusted source. I don't think I've ever followed a disaster such as this, no press conferences to speak of - not clear when they do have one, every Tom Dick and Harry sending tweets that translate into goop, no way to confirm them. Grrrr

None of the major networks around the world are reporting that there is a rescue happening. Only the Thai station upthread.

Seems strange to me. More disinformation perhaps?

Narongsak Osatanakorn said authorities are waiting for two big groups of volunteer divers to arrive later on Saturday and Sunday, after which they will be ready to begin the operation of bringing the group out.

Thai cave conditions improve as officials plan extraction attempt

......

Ben Reymenants, a Belgian cave diver who operates a dive shop in Thailand, was part of the group that first found the boys on Monday, after more than a week of searching. He said the muddy current pushing against him on his initial dive felt as powerful as the Colorado River’s.

Thai Cave Rescue Will Be a Murky and Desperate Ordeal, Divers Say

One American cave diver, an Air Force rescue specialist who is part of a team sent to help from Okinawa, Japan, said that bringing the boys out now would require shepherding them through underwater passageways as much as a quarter-mile long without air pockets above.

I like Elon's tube idea.

Got more great feedback from Thailand. Primary path is basically a tiny, kid-size submarine using the liquid oxygen transfer tube of Falcon rocket as hull. Light enough to be carried by 2 divers, small enough to get through narrow gaps. Extremely robust.

The boys could also be tethered to a diver so there was no risk of them getting lost in the fast flowing, murky water.
"It could be a bonus that the boys are young. When you're young, you feel invincible and they'd see it as a bit of an adventure," he said.
The boys could spend 10 to 15 minutes under water at a time, depending how much of the passageways are flooded. But the journey back to the entrance, which also involved walking and scrambling through narrow spaces, could take a while.
It has taken rescuers 11 hours to complete a round trip of to the group and back - six hours there and five back.

How risky is the Thai boys rescue?

"They're mentally stable which is actually pretty good," Ben Reymenants, a Belgian diver helping with the rescue operation, told AFP news agency.
"Luckily the coach had the sanity of mind to keep them all together, huddled together to conserve their energy, that basically saved them."

So there was rain today yet they seem to be taking their sweet time. The Dutch pumping expert who arrived and assessed the situation today was reported to have said that there are enough pumps. Does all this mean the water levels in the cave have not risen to more dangerous levels? I hope so.

Slow and steady wins the race. Or so the old saw goes.

Hang in there! Love to our "Wild Boars"!

Twitter feed has slowed down to a trickle of rehashed old news. Anyone still on the Live feed? I guess it only shows tired reporters waiting in the drizzle?

I know that setting off a smoke bomb MIGHT help find any openings in the cave walls ---HOWEVER, smoke could negatively impact the ability to breathe inside the cave. There's nothing worse for someone having breathing or lung problems, than breathing in smoky air.

I think they all finally fell asleep. It's 4:00 am there.

The new UK divers expected to lead the rescue mission will join the two British cavers who found the boys, Rick Stanton and John Volanthen.

Thai cave rescue: Expert divers from UK to guide trapped soccer team out of cave - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

....

In 2018, he helped locate a youth soccer team in the Tham Luang cave rescue; he and Stanton were the first to make contact with them. Volanthen was placing guidelines in the cave to assist others in navigation. He ran out of line, which led him to swim to the surface—there, he found the missing team and its coach.[9] Volanthen's voice is heard on a widely-seen video of the first contact with the soccer team, saying "How many of you?" When he learned that all the missing people were accounted for, he replied, "Brilliant."[2]

Not seeing any rain. A couple of minutes ago a soldier ran thru the scene (away from the cave area).
