Yeah, I've wondered about that too. I have a small wooden box about 6x6" with a clear plastic top that slides on and off that a set of alphabet blocks came in that my kids had. So it could have been a big storage box or just a small one for the blocks. My wooden box would make a hefty weapon, even empty.

We often see funeral homes or other businesses donating services, including caskets and burial plots to families who have lost children. And not only kids - a company donated a custom casket for Vanessa Guillen. Google "funeral home donates" and many examples will come up.

I think the real point though was to be cautious about giving money to people before having all the information. There's no control over where the donated money goes or how it's used. We've seen plenty of campaigns that probably funded a defense attorney or drug habit and unless it's reported there's not much that can be done. MOO.

I've been wondering if the box was perhaps just the actual box that the blocks came in when they were new. ?? Maybe Maliyah liked keeping them in that box.

Thanks. Unfortunately I can't access the article because I am not a subscriber.

Is there anybody who could copy and paste the bf's statements re the toy box and pillow case? TIA

HOUSTON — Family, friends and neighbors are coming together to honor Maliyah Bass, the 2-year-old girl who went missing a week ago in southwest Houston.

The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sunset Crossing Apartments located at 10630 Beechnut Street, the last place Maliyah was seen.

Those who plan on attending are asked to bring teddy bears, stuffed animals and balloons to honor the 2-year-old.

Vigil for Maliyah Bass; missing 2-year-old last seen in Houston | khou.com

I know that vigils like this are how the community collectively mourns and gets closure. But sometimes it just hits me wrong. I just wish the money that is spent on stuffed animals, balloons, flowers and candles would have been spent on this child during her short little life and others like her.

Here's the box that my kids' abc blocks came in when new, the blocks are long gone but I kept the box to store craft supplies. It's 6" wide and 4"high.

@casesensitive here's the quote from the article. It's not a direct quote.

Travion Thompson, 21, who has been dating Maliyah’s mother for the past four months, said he felt like a father to the missing girl. Distraught and in tears, he said he last saw Maliyah before she went to the park. The child, he said, had been upset because he had broken her toy box. He gave her the pillow case — which he described as blue and white — to carry her toys instead, Thompson continued.

Maliyah was last seen Saturday at a park in the 10600 block of Beechnut St., wearing a black tank top with multi-colored polka dots paired with matching pants and a pair of blue shoes. She was carrying a pink and white pillowcase with letter blocks inside when she went missing.

I wish we'd get some news from LE. I know the hurricane is dominating msm right now but just a wee bit of an update would show that Maliyah isn't being forgotten.

ABC13 just tweeted that Miley Cyrus adopted a dog. Doesn't Maliyah deserve more attention? SMDH.

I don't want to be harsh but this babies already dead, likely through what we see on here every damn day. The focus does need to be on the living and in danger especially due to the hurricanes.

The time will come, shortly!

The toy chest we had as toddlers were big enough to get inside. The doors were sliding greenboards in tracks so you could not get trapped. It was particle board so not heavy.
My grandma had one same size but cardboard.

I'll say this: it's easy to think of what we consider the facts of the case. Break it down though and most of the "facts" are supplied by mother and boyfriend.
LEO supplied search and recovery very minimal discussion. The store visit wasn't mentioned till QX brought it out.
But the toy box , pillowcase, blocks, even time and date the child was last seen are just from the mom and bf.

Yes, other relatives could be used to identify Maliyah. It's used to identify perps in cold cases now quite frequently.

Absolutely, here in the UK the 'Shoe Rapist' who committed his crimes in the 80's, was identified through a
familial DNA profile in 2006.

Wait, so because you think the baby's dead, that means Miley's dog deserves more attention? That makes no sense. Ok, by your reasoning, people are already dead from the hurricane and COVID and therefore the news shouldn't cover them. That's beyond ridiculous. This baby deserves just as much attention as some spoiled rich brat who got a dog, or Megan Markel, or even the ongoing RNC and DNC conventions.

Anyone watching teddy bear vigil if it being covered by local news?

I understand what you're saying and I agree that reports like hurricane danger or damage are newsworthy but my point was that a dead child is also important, IMO more important than a celebrity adopting a dog or a Confederate statue getting toppled by a hurricane.

For one thing, there's always a chance someone will see a report on Maliyah and remember that they saw something that could help the investigation. For another it's important IMO for her community to see that msm cares enough to keep her name in the news. Too many missing and deceased children drop to the back page way too often.

And if Maliyah was actually abducted by a predator then the community should be warned to be cautious about leaving their kids unsupervised. I don't think that's the case but often reporters will ask if parents should be careful. That hasn't happened here.

Having said that and to be clear, I believe LE is currently silent because they are busy working on finding Maliyah's murderer so I'm faulting msm more than Chief Acevedo. It's been days and she still hasn't been identified and maybe public pressure will help speed things along. MOO.

Some thoughts:
If they had cellphone pings near the bayou couldn't they bring them in on providing false information to LE, or obstruction of investigation? After they acted all "oh it's so far away, who would come here?" Sweat'm a bit, see who turns first?

Anyone else think it's strange the grandma talked about LE didn't do their job/didn't care; but nothing about when she saw her last?
The woman lives just up the street or something near.
You know how people are about even an "adopted" grandchild.
I usually hear family members go on about "she was just here yesterday". Or " I keep expecting her to come through that door, she comes all the time."
I know that's not evidence but none of them act like we usually see.

I'm confused.

His quoted words:
"More responsible parenting could have prevented this."

So is he saying he does believe MB was abducted, but if she had parented MB appropriately or responsibly it wouldn't have been able to occur?

Jmho

That Fox news video of Quantell X was extremely short and possibly edited, which raised questions as to how he really felt about the case after meeting with MB's mother and bf.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Quanell X, he did help in bringing Maleah Davis's body home last year. He involved himself with her mother and bf and got results, and that is why I listen to what he has to say.
His involvement with Maliyah's mother and boyfriend was welcome news to me. Although it has been reported that he said the living conditions were not suitable for a young child, and that more responsible parenting could have prevented this, he added a statement that is much more incriminating in another interview I found. I think he is on to them. jmo

He stated that their story that they left Maliyah outside in an acknowledged high crime area, and shut their door, "Doesn't pass the smell test". I hope that he will continue to be involved, as he stated that he intends to be. He is good at getting people to talk.

QX statements start at 1:10 minute.

I didn't read anything about LE bashing the boyfriend online either. He was extremely emotional in his interview and I think he lumped in complaints about LE not doing a proper job with people online bashing him on Facebook. Or at least that's how I read it.

IOW, two separate complaints. I wasn't impressed by both him and his mother ranting about LE not doing a good job - after all, LE did find Maliyah's body within 24 hours. But I know that it's not uncommon for distraught relatives to blame LE in these kinds of cases.

What I found unusual is that they expressed anger at LE but not at whoever murdered Maliyah. I can see the unrelated grandmother complaining since her interview took place before Maliyah was found but I'm having a hard time about the boyfriend not raging against Maliyah's murderer; instead he was angry at LE and about strangers on FB saying bad things about him. Priorities. MOO.
