When cops patrol a neighborhood they are looking for anything unusual. Seeing 4 young men standing alongside the street, while one changed his shoes would get their attention.

They could have just driven by and ignored it. But then later they might get a report of a burglary or armed robbery at that same address and they would think "WHY didn't we stop' and question them.

Good policing is pro-active.

Agree. I'm so tired of seeing nice neighborhoods slowly disintegrate because of the let's hang out here aspect. If you have a backyard; Then hang out there or inside or keep it moving. Jmo

So these three men fit a profile of suspects that they were looking for? Or were they just guys having fun and horsing around during their homecoming.

Not a profile but a description of suspects previous crimes.

This seems to be clear cut to me. Miller interfered with police while they were conducting an investigation. If he had simply stepped back and removed himself from the situation he would never have been Tazed.

JMO.

Bingo! He inserted himself in a situation that had nothing to do with him. jmo

Except that it did involve him. It was on his property, and involved his guests.

LaLaw, I don't know why you started your post with 'this is not a popular opinion' because the majority of people out there, who are law-abiding, normal individuals--share your exact opinion. It's just a small handful of those who always scream "POLICE BRUTALITY" at every turn.
Mountain meet molehill.

Great posts, by the way! :loveyou:

FWIW I'm not screaming "Police brutality!" yet. Neither side has convinced me what exactly was happening. I want to know more. I wish there was video of the men who were being questioned, and of the Councilman when he first encountered the officers.

You're right though, and I know some scream "Police brutality!" at every turn while others will back up LE 100% no matter the details. It's the balance that seems so hard to find. IMO it's possible to be critical or simply question LE without being either pro- or anti-LE.

So now people don't have a right to hang out in their own front yard?

He comes right up to the cops on the street and they ask him several times to go back to his yard.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole, I'm in front of my home yet the ones the police stopped to check on are his fraternity brothers, does he live on campus? I looked him up and he graduated in may 2015 w/ some degree you make up yourself.

http://www.prairieviewtexas.gov/departments/miller_jonathan.php

Since graduating in May 2015, with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, his next point of focus has become to obtain certification in middle school English.

bbm maybe he is there for this.

Interdisciplinary Studies offer students the opportunity to put together their own degree program.

After the housing market folded. Plenty of owners started renting out descent homes in nice neighborhoods via Section 8. Now alot of people started fleeing their crime ridden neighborhood to live in a more of a middle class suburban setting. But for whatever reasons. (Cough Cough) Some nice areas slowly turned into slum looking neighborhoods. Which automatically devalued every house in the area.

So I don't mind police showing a presence to help deter loitering or anything else. Jmo.

Do you have an addy I want to look it up on maps. I love street view, it tells the story of the neighborhood. TIA

In the body cam video it is clear that the councilman came out to the street and interfered. The male officer asked him a few times to 'go back' and step away from the investigation. He did not do so. He was given a verbal warning twice. And again, did not heed the warning.

This is yet another example of what should be shown at elementary school with the message being this is what NOT to do. jmo

He did step back and remained standing silent until the officer put his hands on him and ordered that he step back even more.

This is a well spoken guy - his take on the matter at the moment matters imo. He saw what happened before the dash/body cams came into play. Jmo.
