If it is his property, I think he has a responsibility to find out whats going on there.

And that can be done without interfering and resisting arrest.

Miller could have simply removed himself from the area as requested by police and when they were done with their investigation ask if they could tell him what was going on. JMO.

So, a member of Prairie View council was tased outside his home ...

You absolutely implied that. Not helping the discussion of this thread imo.

HERE is the beginning of the conversation:

ME:
You probably do not fit the descriptions of recent crime suspects. They are looking for people matching the descriptions of recent armed robberies or rapes. Most likely young males, of all colors.

You can see that I was speaking to Kimlynn, about her situation. She said she had never been stopped and questioned and I said she probably did not fit the description of people the cops were looking for IN HER AREA.

Do you have a link that it was his home he was in front of? TIA

Anyway, I think Jonathan Miller had a point. What the heck is going on in front of my home - I would most certainly ask that of LE.

Oh wait I did ask that once - the cop was soon transferred to Ottawa - far from where he was before I complained. Good job by those in charge at that time. Jmo.

If you read the crime stats for Prairie View then you will see rapes/armed robberies/car thefts. What do you think will be the description of the perps in these cases? I am going to take a wild guess and say YOUNG MEN.

So if a patrol car drives by and sees a group of young men standing out in the street, 'horsing around' or not, they are going to take the opportunity to see what is going on. That is called proactive policing and it is the best way to keep the crime rate down.

Cops have BOLO lists in their patrol cars. I have no way to link that but I believe it is common knowledge. That is how Heather Grahams killer was caught, as one example.

If a cop sees a suspicious car or pedestrian or bicyclist, they like to question them, ID them and possibly frisk them, to assess the situation. That is how fleeing suspects get caught and crimes are prevented.

Is there a link to the crime stats in Prairie View? <modsnip>

This case is a very simple one in my opinion.

A city councilman in Prairie View Texas was worried about some friends being questioned by police. Instead of staying on the sideline and letting the police do their job, he decided to interfere with the LE investigation.

He caused a big problem by not taking the opportunity given to him by police to remove himself from the situation. He decided to not obey the lawful orders given him which resulted in him being Tazed and then arrested.

It's possible that he felt it was okay to "defend" his friends from an unjust police action. In my opinion he didn't help anyone especially himself.

He should have let the police do what they were doing and help his friends after everything was said and done. If they were victims of an unlawful police detention he could have worked to bring justice to his friends though legal means.

Instead, he decided to do something that got himself arrested for obviously interfering with police.

JMO.

I think so too. I wouldn't have hesitated to ask what was going on. And if I were on city council I'd expect to not be ordered to my knees and eventually Tazered. Not that public servants deserve special treatment or anyone should expect that treatment, but, imo, local LE and local representatives should be on the same team.

Especially when he had just voted to give them a raise. I mean, come on, work together please.

That doesn't even make any sense. :waitasec: If he "removed himself from the area", they couldn't tell him anything, because he wouldn't be there.

What does that have to do with anything? They shouldn't arrest someone who supports their pay raise?

He could have gone further away and still watched.

No, that isn't what I said.

It's not hard to understand. You move away from the area where police are doing their investigation but you can still observe them. When they finish questioning your friends you then approach the officers and ask what is going on.

Jonathan Miller is only 26 years old. Perhaps after he gains a few more years of experience, he will discover that acting out the way he did is not the wisest way to act in a situation like this.

Not so sure about that. He could be a "local hero" among his peers (and constituency) because of this.

Maybe so - time will tell.

Maybe so. Time will tell.

Hopefully Mr Miller has learned a lesson and will grow as a person from this experience.

His friends were not in a situation where immediate action by him was necessary. JMO
