It was not an important enough of an issue for her--it was just an excuse to goad the officer. She was looking for a fight just as he was. It was a perfect storm.

She was not arrested for asking questions or a bad attitude. She could have asked questions all day without getting arrested.

IMO it was very important in her life. She even made videos and or blogged about injustice. IMO

I never signed any agreement with law enforcement with regard to my behavior.

And I love N.W.A.

So you all are endorsing her cussing at him and being rude. But if he reacts similarly, then he is sadistic?

the ALERT button is what gets the thread shut down.

This reminds me of the 'guns kill people' vs. 'people who use guns kill people' argument. The mods do not respond solely to alerts -- they respond to the posts (offensive, etc.) that get alerted. So don't blame people who alert posts -- it's the people who break TOS (and usually frequently, as the mods use discretion, and won't ban unless there is a bomb dropped).

Having watched the video several times, it seems clear to me that she immediately provoked the officer. We do not know what she did while driving that prompting being pulled over, because improper signaling isn't typically a guarantee for being stopped. She may have been swerving in and out of lanes, or switching back and forth in a reckless manner. If you look at her FB page, she has post after post of hate language and pictures that declare she hates LE and police. She seems admired by her friends for her outspokenness and her aggressive nature. When the officer stopped her for the lane change issue, she was immediately belligerent and difficult to say the least. My guess is that her tone and attitude started the entire interchange off on a bad note, and when she refused to comply, the officer became very aggravated with her. When she argues and refused to cooperate and became mouthy, he knew that she was escalating out of control. He needed her to put out the cigarette because with her attitude and behavior, she could use the cigarette to burn him. When she refused to comply, the was out of line and being difficult, which was her undoing. Then she refused to step out of the car. He asked her several times, then ordered her, and she continued to refuse. Her behavior could very easily have been interpreted as resisting. He had to get control over the situation because she was so uncooperative. I think that he felt he had to be firm to try to get through to her, and then her behavior made him angry toward the end. She had to be arrested. He could not let her get back into her car and drive away. She assumed the worst and got the worst. But, her death was not at this officer's hands, and my guess is the same issues that caused her to be angry, aggressive, outspoken, etc., are the same issues that caused her to hit rock bottom when things did not go her way. It is very sad, because she could have done much good to improve relations had she just handled things differently. It is even sadder that people who feel strongly as she did, cannot see that their own behavior plays a role in this bad outcomes.

EXACTLY. And so an officer POLITELY asking if she wouldn't mind putting out her lit ciggie then becomes =POLICE ABUSE AND INJUSTICE. jmo

How about the way she acted? Is that fine?

No.
And once again she should not have been driving in the first place.
Per: autopsy.
She was stoned on pot.
I find some of these posts regarding conspiracy utterly dismaying, I can't believe what I'm reading.

But she had a 'tone' as well. When he came to the drivers side window and she said in a very rude condescending way ' just waiting on you, this is your job...etc'

SB was a long time activist against police brutality. She had her own inner hostility and anger towards this officer that was evident to him.

You say your gut tells you he is an abuser. You may be right. But mine tells me that she was rude and hostile towards LE. And that is a gut instinct that I trust as well.

People here are so quick to berate him for being rude and yet they seem to applaud her for being the same way. Like it is OK or even a positive thing for her to be hostile and obstinate. JMO

I think that Sandra's tone and demeanor may have caused the officer to wonder about weapons or other contraband being in the car.

What he should have done after she refused to put out the cigarette and exit the car would be to retreat and wait for backup. Instead he tried to handle it on his own. Big mistake IMO.

if someone alerts on a lot of posts in any given thread then the mods will close that thread because it is too problematic and time consuming to stay open.

In that case, it would be neglect because someone who is at risk for suicide is supposed to be checked more often than they did. Ninety minutes is too long to go without checking on someone with a history of attempted suicide & cuts and scars on her arms who has been crying for 3 days. I don't doubt that she did commit suicide, but I also believe it could have been prevented. She may have still tried, but if she had been checked on earlier, maybe they would have been able to save her.

MOO

IMO it's quite obvious if they have standards they're supposed to adhere to but they don't and something bad happens it's negligence. They didn't do what they were supposed to and a terrible thing happened.

if one or two people keep posting objectionable things, they force the mods to clean up so much poop that they have to shut down the thread to do so.

Guess what? Teachers are constantly berated. Does that mean we get to throw tantrums and push students to the ground or start screaming at negligent parents?

Yep. I have seen the way students are acting in school these days. I find it kind of alarming , actually.

So if you ask a student to put their phone away during class, and they say NO, I can do what I want---do you shrug and let them text during your lesson? You pretty much have to these days.

I can only speak for myself.

No it becomes I have rights and I'm not going to allow you to trample them just because your an authority figure. IMO

But...

I worked in the schools for many years. I go see friends there occasionally. My teacher friends are just thrilled and amazed at the great level of respect for authority that students show teachers and administrators these days. It is very inspiring.

Any idea why someone might want to get this or any other thread shut down? I'm asking because it sounds like you've experienced it but if the question is going to cause more issues I understand.

So he is 'trampling' her rights to smoke a ciggie during a traffic stop. LOL Talk about not choosing your battles wisely.

He was probably TRAINED to ask a motorist to put out their lit ciggie. Many departments have that as standard policy. She was seething and rageful, imo. Look at her social media pages. She had pure hatred for LE. He asked her politely to do a small thing and she made it a civil rights issue and blew it way out of the water.

====================================================================

OBVIOUSLY I was being sarcastic in the post where I said my teacher friends were thrilled at how respectful students are these days. They routinely get cussed at, even sometimes punched. My friend who is already 63 and about to retire had a chair thrown at her recently.

My sentiments exactly.

I'm at a loss why this police officer escalated a situation and wanted Sandra in jail?! Is there some quota he's trying fill, why waste time on a minor traffic violation?
He's going to make an example of her.....??

No one wants it shut down. Some want opposing views and especially those that won't back down shut down.

I was not accusing anyone. My question was in general because the topic had been brought up. There's no need to be defensive.

No, we have techniques for working with students, Mainly we start the year with building rekationships with students and parents,

We used to call every parent to discuss positive things with their student, but with caller ID, there is no time to call at school using their phone and I do not want to use my home phone, so that became a oroblem.

If you do bot develop a relationship with students and parents, nothing can work.

BTW, what is the big focus on weapons and Sandra? She is not a felon, so she can have guns, right
