So, wait. We're now arguing about and questioning her decision to move to Texas? Really?
Respectfully BBM, I haven't seen anyone argue about her decision to move to Texas. Just discussion, as is done on this forum. We can sleuth those that have been listed. Sandra Bland and Trooper Brian E. Just my understanding of this and all threads here. JMHO

SB was working in IL. One of the umpteen msm articles talks about her leaving her IL job for the TX job. With a college degree she would have no problem finding a job in the Chicago area. Also, just west of Naperville starts the farming communities. She resided in an area she could have found work in her chosen field. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...County-13-July-2015-3&p=11979849#post11979849

Ms. Bland graduated in 2009 from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Tex., with a degree in agriculture. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/07/23/us/23blandlisty.html?_r=0. .

??

It's not like I'm making this up. I don't understand why it's so important to say victims of suicide aren't victims. Of all the ridiculous things to pick at. Maybe it's just a small part of the larger "blaming the victim" picture. Or a symptom of people who can't let go of the "people who commit suicide are weak/selfish" myths.

Schadenfreude.

From experience of a friend whose son graduated with a Master's a couple of years ago and is now going to get another as jobs have not been forthcoming, his mother ( my friend) told me that there were plenty of unpaid internships available for him out there. Not conducive for living expenses I feel.

My friend also has a sister ( now retired ) with two Master's degrees and a PhD. Colleges hire part timers most often.

Better jobs require experience. Networking is where it's at. Smart move on Sandra's part. Plus, living in the Windy City is not that appealing weather wise, to me.

Interesting major she went into.

Who was Sandra Bland, and why was she in Texas?
Bland was born and raised in Naperville, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. A bright-eyed social justice advocate, she studied agriculture at Prairie View A&M, the historically black university where she interviewed for a job this month.

Bland also was a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority and the school's marching band. Family members said she was extremely excited about the chance to return to her alma mater as an outreach coordinator.

"I know what my purpose is," Bland had said as she planned to travel to Texas, according to her mother. "My purpose is to go back to Texas and stop all social injustice in the South." http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-sandra-bland-20150728-htmlstory.html

So, WHAT Really was Sandra Bland's Dream Job?? JMHO

What do police say happened in the Waller County jail?

Despite her family's claims to the contrary, Texas investigators have repeatedly described Bland's death inside the Waller County jail as a suicide.

A female police officer found Bland's body hanging from a privacy partition at 9:07 a.m. July 13. Bland hanged herself with a plastic bag, police say.

The full autopsy report found no defensive wounds on Bland's body or any other indicators of a violent struggle, Waller County Assistant Dist. Atty. Warren Diepraam said.

Medical examiners did find 30 cuts on Bland's left wrist. The state of healing and scabbing around each wound suggested the cuts may have been inflicted several weeks before Bland was jailed.

Bland also told police she attempted suicide last year after suffering a miscarriage, according to booking documents.

Probably like all of us. Different things . Try something. See how it works.

She lived there before so maybe she had some ideas and connections of things she wanted to do. Could be outside of her work day.

Is there a dream job for anyone? As a retired person, I wonder about that.

What does Bland's family say happened in the jail?
Family lawyer Cannon Lambert has repeatedly called for an independent investigation. Lambert and Bland's relatives have noted inconsistencies in several statements released by police, and they have expressed grave concern over a gap in the jailhouse video from the final hours before she was found dead.

Six minutes of footage, from 7:18 a.m. to 7:24 a.m., are missing. The gap came immediately after an officer last checked on Bland. Waller County Dist. Atty. Elton Mathis, who released the video, said the camera's motion sensor is to blame for the gaps

No one is saying it isn't there. What experts are saying is there is no way, based on toxicological reports, to ever know how much she ingested or when. The most anyone can say is that her post-mortem blood results showed 18 micrograms per liter. She may have ingested a large amount of marijuana but we'll never know. In the same vein, it's also quite possible she ingested a very small amount and the toxicological results are elevated simply because of the way THC breaks down in a dead body.

But it had to be in her body for it to be in her fat. I assume flashbacks , I think that's what they are called, occur during life. I assume her stomach contents would have been examined diuring autopsy and might have shown some evidence of ingesting marijuana.

Fwiw, Illinois does allow medjcal mj for epilepsy, it is not used legally for treatment of depression. In Il a latient must have been treated for set number of years, I think 5, for a certain dx before they can be legally prescribed medical mj. I would assume if she was legally using medical mj prescribed in Il tbat info would have been made public. It doesn't appear she was in TX long enough to have seen a doctor for a new script. ....and I have no idea how transferring medical mj svripts between states works.

From the link and quote, and from her Mother's words (which those are what she said at the funeral) I take it that her Dream Job ~ "I know what my purpose is," Bland had said as she planned to travel to Texas, according to her mother. "My purpose is to go back to Texas and stop all social injustice in the South.". I wouldn't think a month long job would be a Dream Job. JMHO

FOR THE RECORD

July 28, 3:58 p.m.: A previous version of this article said new video was released on July 27. It was released on July 28.

------------

The new footage shows Bland being processed and interviewed by jailers. Her belt was removed from her possession by jail employees, which is common law enforcement practice. The video also shows Bland making at least six phone calls during that time, though the recording does not provide sound.

The footage also shows Bland being escorted back to her cell, apparently uninjured, the morning of her death. http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-sandra-bland-20150728-htmlstory.html

Lawyer Larry Simmons says the county, while expressing sympathy to Sandra Bland's family, will be filing a response to the lawsuit Tuesday from Geneva Reed-Veal, and "will clearly articulate the county's legal position."

An autopsy determined Bland hanged herself. Her family has disputed the findings, but acknowledged on Tuesday the possibility she killed herself.

ETA He said, "We don't have the gastric content information. We don't have the ligature. We don't have the police reports. Candidly, we don't really know the time of death."

bbm this is what I want to see.

There is a lot of things the Family Lawyer has stated that since has been shown different. It would seem they would wait for the results from the FBI and the Texas Rangers each independent of the other before they made statements. JMHO Have they released their Independent Autopsy results? To me... and JMHO, this says that their results must be same....

Why, what a coincidence, I have a PhD in Schadenfreude.... [emoji6]

Having just done a job search and relocated in the last year, I know it's not easy to find that great job that's a great fit. Yes, network, keep your eyes open, consider nontraditional positions. And be prepared to move both within a company or change companies if you want to advance rapidly. That's just the nature of professional work these days.

Not sure what a person with an agricultural degree would work that into. Sounded like she was trying to move more into a human relations position?

Oh, its a Federal Lawsuit they filed... Glad my PACER account is paid up

The suit, filed in federal court Tuesday, names Encinia, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office and other jail employees as defendants.

The suit alleges that Encinia violated Bland’s constitutional rights and as a result, Bland suffered physical injury, pain and suffering, mental anguish, damages and death. And it accuses the jail of failing to adequately monitor Bland by conducting mandatory face-to-face checks every 60 minutes and failing to provide adequate medical care.

When my daughter first went to college she had a tough time deciding on a major and I pointed out to her with the exception of two friends (a lawyer and a doctor, oddly enough) none of my friends were working in fields directly related to their majors. One thing leads to another and our lives takes all kinds of twists and turns. (She showed me though - social work major now a social worker.)
