Father of missing Claudia Lawrence dies never knowing daughter's whereabouts | ITV News

The father of missing chef Claudia Lawrence has died, after a 12-year campaign to find out what happened to his daughter.

Peter Lawrence OBE, who was 74, passed away at a hospice in York on Thursday, following a short illness, his family said in a statement.

His daughter vanished on March 18, 2009, after a shift at the University of York, where she worked as a chef.

[..]

"He was a very private person thrust into the full glare of the media, and despite a tireless campaign to find her he also selflessly devoted himself to helping others with missing relatives trough the charity Missing People."

Mr Lawrence's friend and spokesperson Martin Dales said: "He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who request privacy at this sad time."

Mr Lawrence lobbied the government to introduce the Guardianship (Missing Persons) Bill, also known as Claudia's Law, which allows relatives to take control of the financial affairs of their missing loved one.

Families can apply for the guardianship of the affairs of a person who has been missing for 90 days or more.

Claudia's Law came into force in July 2019. Mr Lawrence, a retired solicitor who worked tirelessly on the campaign, was awarded an OBE for his work in 2018.

Hopefully repeating these sort of programmes and all the recent sad publicity surrounding her fathers death might at least stress out seriously the guilty involved

And maybe NYP will resubmit those files to the CPS, if additional evidence has emerged in the last 5-6 years

Your imagination but have to agree with Yozzer it does tie up many loose ends
But not fair to accuse or hint at murder with proof

Fist aired two years ago but probably worth watching ... would there be an update ?

Maybe a little tribute to him either at start or end of programme. I presume it's only been shown again for his memory as seems a bit random.

This is the show where Joan Lawrence is interviewed at depth and she gives her views on some of the theories regarding CL's disappearance IIRC.

Watching the documentary now. I have a question. Why would Claudia leave her purse at home?

so,
  • arranged to meet SC Thursday evening at the Nags
  • JK was working at the Nags that night
  • JK became worried about 10pm because Claudia didnt turn up. BUT no mention of any calls to Claudia's phone that evening
  • SC called Claudia's phone friday morning (9am) and it went straight to voicemail
  • SC called the Nags landlord to go to Claudias house to knock on the door, but no answer (but there wouldn't be if she went to work?)
  • SC called PL to alert him that she has been unable to contact Claudia
  • PL goes to the house, lets himself in, no sign of Claudia, no sign of distrurbance
  • PL calls police and they arrive quickly and take disappearance seriously.
questions - did PL call Claudia's workplace before calling the Landlord of the Nags - otherwise none of this timeline makes sense
If JK was worried Thurday evening, why no call to CL?
Why did SC not call te uni first to see if CL was at work?

Ah "different route for some reason" David Oxer time!

It's a real shame mobile phone signal couldn't be pinpointed more to a specific spot in her final hours given she was for certain using her phone at 8pm on the Weds evening as then you'd really have something to work with.

Indeed. When I listen to what he says earlier I'm thinking, hmmm......

Her father thought it suggested she had left for work on the 19th March because she didn't take a purse to work.
There are, of course, other explanations.

Moving tribute to Peter Lawrance on tonight’s program at the end - sent that weird feeling right through me - what a shame he couldn’t of had closure.

second time for me watching “missing and murdered” it stated her phone was switched off at 12.10pm north west of York - wonder who lives near there?

Re BUT no mention of any calls to Claudia's phone that evening

SC has always maintained that she texted CL during Thursday evening while in NH with a jokey 'Where are you - stood me up again?' type text. No reply of course. She stated that she assumed CL was having an early night.

I'm new to this case but have reviewed heaps of online sources, blogs, etc. A few questions/thoughts I haven't seen too much info on:
  • As a pub 'regular' myself, I would certainly notice changes in my fellow patrons attendance and behavior. Were there any noted absences the evening of May 18th...particularly of the 4+ POI's that were arrested and released? Or rather, were the "4" noted to be there, and if so, were their departure times noted?
  • Were regulars known to visit CLs late night post drinks? I feel like most theories assume a premeditated attack, but I don't see many thoughts related to intoxication/accidents. Perhaps a regular, very drunk, visits CL late night...she lets them in for company...and either an assault or accident occurs. Perpetrator enlists friends to cover-up.
  • Regarding CLs rucksack - perhaps it contained her dirty clothes from the day (not a fresh change for a new day of work). If the cause of her disappearance occurred at night, she might have been exhausted and just thrown it down near the door. If she was "taken", perpetrator simply grabbed it on the way out as it seemed closest to a ladies purse. Any reports on how many sets of work clothes she owned and if they could determine how many were clean vs dirty?
