As they say:
The perp is always in the 1st file volume!

Maybe, but unless the evidence is overwhelming the other potential suspects/lines of enquiry need to be pursued and either eliminated or sufficient evidence obtained for arrest and subsequent charge.

There's no going to trial with potential suspects still in the mix.....the defence would laugh the case out of court.

Without getting too technical:

1. A mobile phone will search for the cell tower that is sending the strongest signal to the phone and connect to it, in most cases.
2. Generally this will be the nearest cell tower to the phones location.
3. The phone can also identify the additional cell towers where the signal is not as strong.....it may lock onto these in some circumstances.
4. Cell towers are numerous in densely populated areas (a few streets) and much further apart (often many miles) in rural areas.
5. By using triangulation with cell towers and taking into account the strength of the signal received from the phone, it is possible to identify the area in which the phone was located, using historic cell site analysis.
6. The the scale of the area identified is very much dependent on how close the cell towers are to each other. Cities can locate to a few streets. Urban areas could be an area of many miles.

Smart phones GPS and location tracking can also be used to locate a phone or identify where it was, much more accurately, before being switched off.

I have read that CL did not have a smart phone but an old style phone so quite possibly no GPS capability.
A few direct questions if I may?
In your professional opinion what happened to Claudia Lawrance? When did it occur and why can she not be seen anywhere on cctv after arriving home on Wednesday the 18th after work?
Thank you in advance

Yes no gps on Claudias phone it did have Wap. Though the suspects phones could have had GPS?

Food for you Whitehall1212
Dai Maylan and his crew revisited the whole case well 95 % ( on their micro site )
But ignored 5% . If you are privy to this 5 % why not start there ? After all it’s only 5% lol
I was interviewed 3 years after CL disappeared and never contacted again !
Am I in that 5% ?

I can't give an opinion yet, as I've yet to look at the information in the public domain.

Statistically the likelihood is that CL knew her killer. If CL's private life was compartmentalised and involved a number of men then it's deja vu with the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh, unsolved after thirty-six years!

TBH I don't expect to hit on something that so many other dedicated minds haven't suggested already.

I have no connection with the police investigation into CL's disappearance.

If D/Supt Dai Malyn has indicated that 5% of the original investigation was not revisited then maybe these were lines of enquiry that were satisfactorily eliminated and did not need further review.

Unsolved?

I thought the murderer of Suzy L. is in prison.

In fact, I read he is on his death bed, terminally ill.

John Cannan was never charged or convicted of Suzy L's abduction/murder.

The Met Police took the highly unusual step of announcing that JC was the "only suspect" after the CPS refused to charge him because the weight of the evidence did not provide a realistic prospect of conviction.

Oh, I see.

I thought he confessed - in a roundabout (psychopathic) way, that is.

Didn't he accuse a "businessman from Bristol" who, in fact, was himself?

I read he constantly played his sick mind games with Police.

Oh well...

There was a really good documentary on the case - you may find it on YouTube.

It was said it connected to a Cell tower near university and that Cell tower had a 9 Mile radius.

CL must have met the perp in Acomb or Malton when she was avoiding the regulars in the Nags Head

Why? Do you have evidence the suspect/s are from Malton /Acomb?

Thanks. I've read that today....phone located in a 120 degree segment from the area of the Uni out as far as Tockwith. It's a big area! It would be interesting to know if the same 120 degree segment has Heworth within it or not.

I picture it in my mind. Imagine a triangle of points no lines for sides - the points are masts. The phone is inside the triangle. So to gain its location a signal strength is taken off the three masts which then creates a location. This is how I think it works. We will never have access to the phone data.

CELL SITE TRIANGULATION

Imagine if you will three cell towers.

Each cell tower receives a signal from the same mobile phone at the same time.

Now dependant on the strength of the signal received by each tower draw a circle around the cell tower, with the cell tower in the centre. The radius of the circle is dependant on the strength of the signal. A stronger signal has a larger radius and vice versa.

Repeat this for each of the cell towers that receive a signal from the phone at the same time.

Where the radii intersect is the area in which the phone is located.

This is the general principle although there may be other parameters which impact on the triangulation, such as the number of cell towers that are receiving a signal from the phone, the topography and other obstructions that affect signal quality.

She visited pubs in Acomb and Malton, however the perp may have driven to the pubs from another location

It’s possible but the police would have a description of him possibly a name too !
After all Claudia was attractive and probably well known in them pubs !?
Unless she went there disguised lol

I’m not with you - what makes you think the perps are from Malton or Acomb? Because she visited the pubs before she disappeared? But she then lived in Heworth worked at the college etc etc the killer could be from anywhere given that assumption or do you have more specific information?
