From the article Police 'fed me to the wolves', says York landlord after pub searched in Claudia Lawrence investigation

Mr Harris said his wife went to the police station voluntarily on Wednesday.

He added: “They searched my wife’s car and found a bracelet in it and asked if my wife wore it. She said no, but my girls wear bracelets.”

He also said:" They didn’t question me at all about Claudia’s disappearance."

Unless I am getting the wrong end of the stick, it looks to me like the police took a statement from his wife, compared it to his statement, then arrested him on suspiscion of perverting the course of justice. Seems a bit like a sledgehammer to crack a nut o_O

It’s confusing. I don’t know why he doesn’t refer to ‘the woman’ as his wife? He mentions her in other comments. He said his wife had been told by police they were planning to arrest him a few weeks ago but decided to wait as his father had died.

If she did go to the police, what reasons did she go for? Years later?

“When I was questioned on Wednesday the police made it clear that all they were questioning me about was a contradiction in one of my statements to another statement I made.”

Claudia Lawrence missing: Pub landlord denies murdering chef

‘When Mr Harris was asked by reporters what was the ‘contradiction’ in his statements, he explained: “That’s the point they have told me not to speak about to the public because it is an ongoing investigation.’m

Perhaps another affair-Did Harris's wife go to Police because her husband was not honest with them about Claudia and him? "If you don't tell them about your fling with that B***** then I will"

Or he said he hadn’t seen her and he had? Was he covering for ‘Ant’?

Possibly but Ant was never arrested nor him. There are probably quite a few men that didn't want to admit being with her because- A. Would be seen as suspects and B. Their partners might find out.
I suppose that his motivation (Because his partner seemed to know) was A. He didn't want to be seen as a suspect?
His interview by police was some time before the arrest of the Fab 4 and do it is unlikely that he was covering for them as that would have come out in the interview and sped up the arrest of Ruane and co.

He and Claudia had mutual friends, I guess he forgot to mention that to the police

Not sure if that would be sufficient an omission to threaten charges of Perverting course of justice-He just says I forgot to mention-Joe?

Definitely?

‘The police have told me I was arrested because a woman came forward recently saying something that contradicted what I said in a statement taken at the time Claudia went missing.’

'I can't say who it is who came forward, or what was in the statement, but what I can say is that I volunteered to give the police a statement at the time.’

Why wouldn’t he say it was his wife?
Are his wife and him still together? Sometimes information that has been kept secret comes to light once people fall out due to anger and resentment. All past loyalties are forgotten.

Perhaps in his first statement he just said he hadn’t seen her at all, then years later it comes up that -
“She was drinking in here two weeks before she went missing but that was the first time for years because she’d stopped drinking here because she obviously had made friends with those in the Nag’s Head.

“I did speak to her and said ‘Are you alright Claudia?’ and she was with Ant and she got the taxi home and I never saw her again.

Or they later checked where she went in the taxi? Or who she went with? And it didn’t match?

I wonder if Ant was her cover reason to go in The Acomb where she would 'conveniently' meet PH and/or possibly AN Other. If Mrs H was behind the bar, PH would have to tread very carefully but AN Other wouldn't.

They were at the time but I don’t think they are now.

Welcome @SmashingPumpkin You are spot on here. The cctv images provided by the police are from the camera that is situated far back in the small car park area and up a high lamppost. We know this for sure because on the footage you can actually see another camera that is above the Limes reception office.
It is true that the camera showing the images is limited in its range and so the dark person goes out of sight at a crucial moment when walking up Heworth Place.
We don't know why Police didn't show more footage perhaps from the other CCTV cameras you mention?
Possibly because they know where the person went and were only trying to get an identity from the public.
It is also possible that the reason they don't want to show the footage is:
It wasn't available-other cameras not working
Or
The Dark person called at a house in Heworth Place to meet or pick something up? There are many who say that Dark person already had a rucksack at the start of the footage but due to it being on the "blind" side of their body, it could only be seen when they came back down Heworth Place.

Are they old people's flats or student accommodation?

Enjoy reading and contributing to this thread, we are happy you are here.
How is Mr Lawrence faring ? Does anyone know on here ?

People and police must realise that a witness that can be identified by for example where he works or profession might be economical with the truth especially in a case of murder .
A feeling of / like a sitting duck ?

The Clockhouse in Acomb has won a reprieve from councillors.
City of York Council wanted to withdraw the licence from the Kingsway West pub after a number of reports from residents about music – including occasions when noise patrol officers heard Sweet Caroline and Come On Eileen being played at an “unreasonable level” after 11pm.
After apologising for its noisy past, York pub gets to stay open

Good to see Paul is keeping up with the latest music trends. I bet there was a fair bit of foot stomping going on to Dexy's.
No mention of the wife in this article but her name's still on the business.
