It must a have been someone who she was only in verbal contact with because the police havent tracked him down from her mobile records

The witness said she did look surprised when she opened the door so either she was on the phone to him.
Or she was and the police have eliminated him.. which is unlikely because he featured as a person the police wanted information on and this has remained current on the NYP website.

Clearly she was worried that SOMEONE might spot him (she looked concerned and looked up and down the road before letting him in) so that person or persons (who she tried to avoid) must presumably live on Heworth Road and/or be a Nag's Head regular.

yes Im clear she may have been talking to him. Usually his number would have shown on her mble records making it traceable unless it comes up as caller id blocked of course

I would have thought if her number shows up at 2:30 how many other numbers could there be at the same place same time . Ok you see now I know nothing about mobile tracking

And if you are right and looks like this person went to her house for the first time and probably learned how to go out the back door that same day because coming out is just as bad coming in !

This case has fascinated me since it first broke way back in 2009. I thought for what it’s worth I would post my opinions - I hope that is ok with the rest of the community. I’m not sure of the etiquette/rules on this site.

So much has been written in the intervening years since Claudia disappeared its hard to go with a narrative and I don’t want to repeat on mass what people have already stated so apologies again if I do go over old ground.

Firstly, I’ve always thought she is sadly deceased and killed by a man she was romantically involved with, and perhaps pregnant by, and was going to expose to wife and or partner. I think all the other theories, Cyprus, sex trafficking etc are just wild speculation. The link to the policeman and the drugs involvement is interesting and I do lend slightly more credibility to that. Does anyone have any concrete information on this or is it yet again speculation? If there a private message facility on here feel free to use it to send me stuff if you don’t want to publish openly and I will naturally treat it in confidence. The Halliwell factor I again think is off the mark although the dates are a spooky coincidence. Without disclosing to much personal information about myself I live relatively near to Swindon and I think it’s almost to convenient to attribute every murder to him as a serial killer, I could be completely wrong of course but I just feel the answers lie locally in her private affairs. Of course, after having that assumption for sometime it’s entirely possible I’m just unable to view other circumstances now.

Ultimately, there is a saying in life, and the exact wording escapes me now, but that the more obvious (mundane) reasons are usually the correct ones which is why I favour a jilted lover type scenario.

Has anyone read the reddit forum threads on this case paying particular attention to what a poster with the username handle ‘union_jane’ says regarding Claudia and a dvd recording, a sex tape, of which the police have a copy. This poster seems genuine and lives locally with some intimate knowledge of people and family it would appear. Thoughts?

There is a blog post by a girl who used to work in the nags head pub which is also extremely interesting reading, I can post a link if required. Again, views?

I may have visited York this Easter bank holiday and some Claudia sites if it wasn’t for the current pandemic outbreak I’ve wanted to come up and have a look around for a while now.

I have no suspicions only my own personal thoughts accumulated over the years from reading the case.

I studied criminology at university and I used to work in a criminal context although I’ve changed employment roles now. I did read large sections of the thread but across other existing threads we are talking 100 plus pages and as intriguing as this subject is pouring over the details regarding CCTV and car braking times is a bit all consuming for even me!

There are many threads on this with hundreds of pages from 2015 so a week of lockdown should cover reading them all!

"Union Jane" was discussed a bit in one of those earlier threads. NH barmaid actually posted on here for quite a while although not recently, brilliant to get such a close up view from her regarding various characters and people of interest who frequented the pub.

Like you I was planning to go up to York to have a look around in March. Have been to the uni in York before to met a friend but never walked along the road where she lived.

There was the report of her seeing a "New Boyfriend" on the night of 17th. The stranger appeared at her door on that afternoon.
The person had a fringe, stylishly cut and She knew him, was initially both surprised and appeared annoyed. She looked both ways before letting him in as though to ensure no one saw him-Why?
Was she sheltering someone who was on the run?
Did she become embroiled in his problems and did she rather than he pay the penalty?
In these circumstances, would he be afraid to go to the police?

Don't know that one. Criminally the other famous Swindon case (Halliwell aside) is Glyn Razzell who murdered his wife Linda. He still protests his innocence, I think he is due out of prison soon although I may be wrong there. They never found her body. Incidentally I’ve passed by alleyway she was abducted from. She was also linked as one of Halliwell’s victims!

My thoughts on Claudia are she was killed by a lover. I suspect the police know who, sadly it’s a case of not having enough proof beyond circumstantial. Unless her body is located, if there is one to find, or someone cracks and breaks a loyalty I fear this case won’t be solved in her parents lifetime and potentially ours, if at all regrettably. I have such a burning desire to know what happened it’s so frustrating and obviously terrible for her family and loved ones.
