This theory was discounted at the time because he was in prison when Claudia went missing.

I personally feel that this theory should be discounted. Police showed this video as part of a wider appeal for a large silver car. They quite openly stated that the footage was actually from an earlier date but it was the car rather than the character they were interested in.
If you look at a More plausible piece of evidence from the Heworth Road evening video which is 11 seconds in and shows a vehicles lights shining on the windows of a house in Heworth Road which is directly opposite to alley-man just as he disappears and cctv is cut.
You will a reflection of something in the window of this house.
It is the car headlights that allows us to see something that could not normally be seen without car lights.
I won't say what can be seen as I don't want to put ideas into people's heads and so decide for yourself and then post on the thread.
The cctv footage is clearer than the still attached.

I see headlight beams coming from right to left and a larger vehicle maybe a bus (because of the size and height of the reflection position in the bay window of the hse) coming from left to right. The position of the hanging basket at the doorway entrance nearest the bay window cast changing shadows on the window this is due to the street lighting combined with the passing headlights of vehicles travelling in a one way or two way traffic direction.

Yes here is an article about that video. It was on the 25th March at 5.20 but the silver car was also caught on the same cctv on 18 and 19 March, hence the interest. So @keep-it-real is correct in the sense that this film did not show the 19th, but does show the number of different characters walking around at 5.30 in the morning and vehicles too.

"Frustratingly we are also finding even recently, only last week, people who are on Claudia's route to work in Melrosegate are waiting for the police to come to them and when we knock on their door they expressed that. "My appeal tonight is please, if you were in that area on the 19th March between 5am and 6am please come forward."

Thompson had been arrested last October (has to be 2013) after kidnapping a student in York, forcing her into his van and raping her three times during a terrifying drive betyween York and Malton.

Last summer (has to be 2013), he also tried to rape a 32-year-old woman in her house in York. And in 2009, he sexually assaulted a 23-year-old York woman in an alleyway off Coney Street.

His offending started in 2009 with him groping a woman in Coney Street until a passer-by and nearby doormen intervened, and it ended last October (has to be 2013) with him bundling a student into the back of his white van and raping her repeatedly in York and at Kirkham Priory near Malton.
The student had been on her way home alone from a night club, where she worked to part-fund her studies.

Thompson has been in custody since his arrest in the afternoon of October 29 (has to be 2013) and has been remanded in prison until Tuesday.

Martial arts expert Thompson, married to Adriana Ford-Thompson, a University of York research and teaching fellow, was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and taken into custody. (so yes, arrested in 2009)

The victim, who cannot be named, told her story to police in the early hours and gave video evidence the next day. All her clothes were taken away for testing.

But less than a fortnight later a policewoman knocked on her door to say the case had been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

She said: “It did not take them very long to decide they didn’t believe me.

“It was a strange feeling. It was if I was the one who had done something wrong. I was so disappointed.

“I was also concerned because he lived not far from me. It was scary that someone capable of doing these things had been so easily let free.

Like From Germany I can find no record of this.
The attempted rape in Feb 2009 did not proceed to court he was arrested and interviewed but not charged.
The victim said a police woman knocked on her door 2 weeks after the incident and advised her that the case would not proceed to court the paper reported the dat as 29th Feb 2009 I rechecked this date and found that 2009 was not a leap year so this was prob a typing error the last day of feb being the 28th which fell on a sat

The incident was covered in an article on Mark Thomspon by Keith Perry in the Express newspaper dated 6th May2014
police started making inquiries into Thompson and discovered the earlier case from 2009 which never reached court.
On February 29 of that year a young woman left work at a city centre bar and was grabbed from behind by Thompson.
She was forced into the shop entrance where he began thrusting his groin forcibly at hers. She screamed and doormen and members of the public came running to save her.
She was shouting: ‘He tried to rape me,’ but Thompson responded to the men who had come to her rescue: ‘Don't worry about it brother, she is my girl, seriously blood you can go home - I would not go with another girl when I have a picture of my wife in my wallet.’
Thompson was arrested and interviewed but he said that she initiated the sexual contact and the investigation never reached court.

Tang Hall - man in Co-op said he Knew Claudia.

He is described as black, aged in his late 20s, about 5ft 8in tall, slim build and he spoke with an African accent. He was wearing what appears to be a light-coloured baseball-style cap with a darker peak with a “NASA” motif, a zip-up cardigan with the motif “Beverley Hills Polo” on the breast , blue jeans and white trainers with a pink stripe.

Thompson moved from Jamaica to London at the age of 16, where he took up boxing, before heading to Tanzania in 2005 to teach martial arts.

He met his wife while she was over there conducting research and in 2007 moved to York to be with her while she finished her PhD. They married in 2009.

Claudia's face looks fuller than on several other photos, and so I would have thought, that the photo is from the same time as the one, you will be remembering forever.
I for my part will remember several different photos of her. Indeed, CL is known to me only from WS ....

IMO this is one of the better attempts to analyse the evidence. Think it might be Canadian and if you can bear with hearing the CL story over again, he then goes on to consider the evidence very thoroughly. Nothing new though unfortunately.
