there may have been a good reason why jk hadn't heard about the casual affair, of course.......
Indeed love triangle springs to mind....I wondered if police had informed SC during questioning and she had to keep schtum. That would be stressful.

It has been known almost from the start that she was in a secret ltr with a York man. See below from Mar 2010 'In a separate development, it was also revealed Miss Lawrence was involved in a long-term, casual sexual relationship with another man when she vanished. The man was himself involved in a long-term relationship with a woman, but is not believed to be the boyfriend Miss Lawrence was with a few nights before she went missing.'
Claudia Lawrence 'slept with mystery man before disappearance'
'Officers have also revealed for the first time that Miss Lawrence was not entirely single at the time of her disappearance, and was in a casual relationship with a man from York......Miss Cooper said she was also confused by this week's revelation that police knew Miss Lawrence to have been in a casual relationship with a man from York. She said: "I didn't know Claudia was seeing someone casually. I thought I knew everything about her, and then I found out that I didn't. That is hard for me to accept, but now I've thought about it in realistic terms, it's not actually that unusual. She didn't have to tell me everything. Miss Cooper admitted that her friend had been in relationships with married men in the past, but insisted she was not a "scarlet woman".

Significant new lead in Claudia Lawrence inquiry
The long term casual relationship could simply be the policeman ?!

I believe she's moved from York..-.id be interested to know if the police helped her with this or if it was some kind of deal with her old group as long as she kept quiet.
I wasn't aware of this - she was still in York in Mar 19. I have to say it's a sensible move and one she probably should have considered earlier as her health was obviously affected, as she herself admitted.

I dont know for sure, Yozzer,...I think a poster said it.

would the police have revealed the fact about a casual lover if it had been a policeman....

murder is a terrible thing...but drug dealing can amount to murder to, as I well know

not saying how you can judge one against the other, but drug dealers often see themselves as something less evil than they are

I don’t see why not if it was true therefore letting her friends know that they do not know everything about her !

Drug dealers never expect their customers to die...not good for their business !

Was he the secret lover??
I don't think so because he would be voluntarily putting himself under the spotlight. We know he didn't confess anything because police made a point of following up on his evidence by making a public appeal. Why create problems for himself? Re him being the long term lover, he doesn't seem to fit her preferred profile. Plus colleagues would have picked up some vibes, I'm sure. IMO.

Edit to add: Unless....they had a very short term fling when they first started working together which fizzled quickly and he had to wrestle with his conscience before getting involved in the case, lest his marriage was dragged down with it.

Do you mean the "long-term casual" one (we speak of DO)?
And the mystery lover was HIS rival perhaps, therefore the late revelation one year after CL went missing?
He had an dispute with CL and didn't want to pick her up on the morning of 18th?
He is one of the two man, who immediately went to police to admit the liaison with CL?
Att.: All incl. questionmarks, no statement!
Thinking, guessing ............

you're probably right, Popejohn, but that just makes them stupid and or cynical, not less culpable.

I dont know who the mystery lover was, but im. sure the police made. sure jk didn't know about it....otherwise it wouldn't have been a mystery.

where did the story....true or false...about a policeman lover.....originate

I've thought about who she would be seing she wouldn't want to tell Suzy about and it has to be linked to the girls friendship and so likely she was Seing PR at same time as he was Seing JK.
Now there's a female tinderbox waiting to explode IMO

A question to @cortina and cortina only : Do you have a prime suspect ?

I agree that he seems an unlikely boyfriend, but who really knows. To suddenly remember a conversation about a new boyfriend 12 months down the line is IMO highly odd. Maybe he thinks offering this info will make himself look a good guy and detract any suspicions away from himself, or then again he could simply crave attention.

Yes and I'm sure that DO falls into the same category as Anth. The lift never went to the top floor with with regard to these two.

no, I dont have a prime suspect., but I find the so called message to jk very suspect....I won't put it more strongly than that. ...ive found that young women who tend to put XS on the end of the messages tend to put them by mistake in more official messages, rather than the other way round

id have thought if the police had realised that the mystery boyfriend was a policeman, they'd have worked it out and simply announced that the so called mystery boyfriend had been eliminated from their enquiries....without saying it had been a policeman.

of course, as the matter is unresolved, they might not be able to do that officially

no, I dont believe in the mystery boyfriend remembered 12 months later, either.....is this where stories of the policeman originated

and if its long term casual, dont the odds favour someone you can easily fit you current movements around......a casual affair that had only just begun after shed been staying away from the nags might be a different matter

We know DO had been on the police's radar from early on - he is a work colleague after all - and police had mentioned this when the overnight boyfriend revelation was made in Mar 2010. But would his wife stay with him (and it seems she has) if she knew about his ltr with a now deceased woman who has probably been murdered? After all, the ltr was ongoing at the time of her death.
Saying that, a few others are in that position and have carried on regardless....

@cortina * no, I dont believe in the mystery boyfriend remembered 12 months later, either.*

It has been mooted on here that DO might have been pestering CL and the story was invented to get him off her back.

They are not giving you the right info.
There is a ‘ long term casual boyfriend ‘ that the police know about and I believe he contacted them and then there is a ‘mystery boyfriend’ and the police are still looking for him although some on this site doubt his existence
