Hi, I am new here and was a friend of Helen's. I also knew Ian from the widow's group we all met through. I'm using an assumed name but wanted to join as I need to express my grief and also correct some of the mistakes that have been reported. I hope this is ok

Helen called us her "Tribe" and many of us met for the first time in person at her memorial service. It was heartbreaking as Ollie and Jamie (IS's sons) were there too. Please be careful for their sake what you say about Diane, their mum - she died of an epiletic fit. There has been no hint of foul play. The Tribe is heartbroken and very very angry tonight. She was a wonderful woman and I was proud to have a chapter of her book dedicated to me.

Hi there everyone i`m new here but have been following todays events just a few thoughts we don`t know for sure that it was Helen herself on her ipad on the day of her murder,it could well have been him pretending to be Helen,and also the whole thing whilst full of holes appears IMO to have been planned a lot longer than from the beginning of 2016,something about the cesspit is not jelling I get the feeling (not reasoned I know) that he planned this quite a while ago maybe from the time he found out about the hidden part of the cesspit,and during this time was just putting a plan into action on how to kill her just maybe he never really needed sleeping tablets at all.

Helen reported feeling confused, memory loss...that is more than a few sleeping pills sounds like he was poisioning her for a long time,Zopiclone should not be used for more than 4 weeks would a doctor keep issuing this drug month after month? the side effect for the drug go as follows nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache; rarely amnesia, confusion, depression, hallucinations, nightmares; very rarely light headedness, incoordination, paradoxical effects and sleep-walking,this last one i think is very important "sleep walking" are the defence is going to suggest that Helen took his drugs and slept walked with Boris into the cesspit? It also causes increased risk of respiratory depression, but if the defence go with that then they have the problem of how did Helen get into the cesspit.

I think it would be pretty easy to snap the neck of a tiny little dog like that. Pillow slip more likely to be linked to Helen being murdered in her bed.

The 14:53 court update here stated they could not identify a cause of death for Helen's dog.

I am so sorry for you all.
Even those who who didn't know her felt angry about this case last year and today it just got even worse .

We are always very grateful if someone with a personal connection to victims joins the forum and shares their feelings and knowledge, especially if you are able to correct misconceptions or outright falsehoods.

So - it seems the wedding was still on - even though the relatives had not been advised of an engagement !!
so my thoughts, that the catalyst for the killing was that Helen was going to leave him, were incorrect.

Was his illness the trigger then ?
He gets a scare ( cancer was it ? ) and suddenly starts to think that time might be in short supply for him.
OK, they are getting married, after which time he can work on getting Helen to let him have more access to her money - over and above the £600 allowance he is currently getting. But this could take months.

So instead he begins the drugging.

Then, when he gets the all clear, he is so far gone with his plan, that he thinks there is no need to go through with the marriage and the slow task of getting access to the money.

BIB Am interested to hear more on this - know I won't get to hear about his medical records BUT I posted last year wtte, him hyping up his cancer scare could be a very devious catalyst to moving forward quicker both the relationship legally and financially.

Thanks. My late husband died around the same time as Helen's. We spent many a night outpouring our grief. Throughout it all Helen kept her wonderful sense of humour. You could laugh and cry at the same time. She really thought she had found her happy ending, but the book tour was very tough and then Ian's operation on his intestine (suspected cancer) really took it's toll. She said her TLC was running out. I didn't know they were engaged, I last spoke to her 5 days before this happened. She did text someone I know about the engagement. Thanks again, it's good to talk as his sons have access to many of my FB friends as they are mutual ones with IS and Helen. Everyone is very keen to protect them as much as possible.

Yes, if it was unwashed since the last time she had visited, but I wondered how likely that would be, if they had a cleaner who normally washed the bedding.

I like Nellie Nelson's idea that he may have planted a few hairs in the bed.

I agree, as far as the duvet he disposed of at the tip in Royston, but in Broadstairs where he instructed the cleaner not to change the bedding, it's not clear to me why he said that.

Maybe because he had a secret 'lover' sleep over and there were related bed 'stains'?

Someone doesn't suddenly become like this at the age of 55/56. IMO.

Wait til end of trial, wouldn't mind betting that more will transpire about his real nature, any other relationships where he was found to be a bit dodgy, things that can't be made known to this jury in order not to prejudice the trial.

Hello Pips, many thanks indeed for posting and including the information about the boys' mother. I will certainly desist from comment and remove my earlier post. I feel so sorry for IS's sons - they must be devastated.

I wonder if Helen had made an appointment to see her doctor about her sleepiness and confusion. While IS was in hospital her symptoms must have improved slightly.

Defence will say Helen was confused/memory issues?

or even that she was taking his prescription meds unbeknownst to him?

yes in a word, due to Helen taking his medication (unknown to him,he will say) the side effects caused her to become confused and she mis took the tank for something else (they only have to introduce reasonable doubt not complete innocence),it will explain the drugs in her system and how she got into the tank,Boris and his toy.But of course it dosn`t explain anything really just enough to muddy the waters and plant doubt.
