I must say I have made the ( possible) error of starting with the WS Corrie McKeague MP case last week as I try never to look at two cases/trials simultaneously.

I know this will be safe harbour over in here as that ones a bit :hot: and :gaah:but still very interesting re. what happens in a MP case where the family try to run their own press and investigation.

Back to Helen - I did find his strange Youtube videos of hand-built clock mechanisms last year but just checking my bookmarks now I can't locate. I will try again and post next week, gives a flavour of the man IMO.

If we're lucky enough to have a member attend trial that will be doubly interesting.

Even though we've been waiting a while for this one to start, the scenario of him in the house sat on the sofa watching the TV whilst she was in that septic tank still chills me. ( Plus the nipping off on holiday of course. )

RIP Helen, what a terrible waste of a life ...and Boris of course.
(It'll be interesting to eventually hear his claims as to whom he "inadvertently " killed first and how that logic plays out.)

ETA - just read Alyce's last post - he better not do a silent .
Obviously I know zero about him but I reckon a tall tale of manslaughter- unless being inside has really knocked the stuffing out of him and he keeps schtum?
My instinct/prejudices tells me that if he could seduce a writer like Helen he must have had some spinning yarns or charisma and maybe that leads to him wanting his moment in court, but really IDK, s'pose it all depends on how strong the prosecution's case is/ how his flaws interact with his legal advice .

Those videos sound interesting CW, hope you can find the link. I did find some *other stuff * on him, but dont want to post on here at the mo because of the trial, but happy to share elsewhere with you. :secret:

Re the Corrie thread, know what you mean. I have dipped in and out but my thought is what I said the other day, sadly. Have also followed a lot of the stuff on FB from Nicola. I do hope she finds out what happened.

apols for going OT there.

Count me in on the secret stuff?

Re Corrie :( I'm thinking it might be another Adrian Lynch but, I'd like to know more details, such as What's the deal with his 'friends' and just how easy/difficult it really is to leave the horseshoe unseen.

That board though!

I would guess her body would have been in a horrific state after being in the tank so long making it difficult for COD to be determined. Unless she had obvious broken bones it would be hard for a coroner to confirm a struggle. Methinks IS will claim she died accidentally and he panicked.

I don't know anything about UK trials, but here in Canada, pleading not guilty and going to trial (vs pleading guilty in exchange for a less serious charge) means the perp will either stay silent, or will lie that they did not kill the victim and had no reason to do it.

In this case, the details about how a car was parked overtop the access door to the tank, and possibly that he lied about her purse being missing, may be the strong circumstancial evidence that convicts him

Have just been checking the listings for next week but can't see anything, so have to presume all is set for next Monday.

However, looking at the previous court appearances I see that, as well as the hearing on October 12, where IS put in a not guilty plea to murder -

12-10-2016 St Albans 1 T20167121
ian stewart
Details: - No Information To Display -
Plea and Trial Preparation - Case Started - 14:58
Plea and Trial Preparation - Hearing finished for IAN STEWART - 15:22

There was also a hearing on October 27 for bail -

27-10-2016 St Albans 1 T20167121
ian stewart
Details: For Application for Bail - Case Started - 10:26
For Application for Bail - Hearing finished for IAN STEWART - 10:45

I can't find any record in the Law Pages of the December 16 pre trial hearing, which has been mentioned in several MSM sources.

The 55-year-old’s next scheduled court appearance is a pre-trial review hearing on December 16. The trial is set to start on January 9, 2017.

So, do we know if he was granted bail? Was just actually thinking the other week, how this time a year ago little did he know how life would change and that by the next Christmas Helen would be dead and he'd be in prison. Unless it had been long premeditated, the events that were to follow

I was planning on going to the trial, but now something has come up on Monday so couldn't make first day. Which may be good as I am sure there will ve stuff online about whether started or not, rather than my making a wasted journey only to find the start date has been changed!

  • #928
Agree Milly re tomorrow. At most it will only be IS entering his plea and the Jury selection, so not much actual case to follow, if any.
I think the interesting part will be when ( if ) IS gives evidence - so possibly week 2 - dependent on how long the Prosecution case takes.
I sincerely hope the Pros have some of Helen's friends who are able to give evidence about what was happening, re the
* alleged * engagement and all being harmonious in the home.

It will be great to have you at the trial MillyM. From previous trials the first day or so is mostly the practicalities, jury selection and the like (as Alyce points out) .so you won't miss much then.

Keep us in touch won't you :)

from one of my previous posts on this case, last year

"Online generally I came up with conflicting accounts of septics as an effective means of disposing of forensic evidence.
Apparently yes sewage aids decomposition if the tank is "active".
However see link below
- submersion of a body within the water of a septic for a year still yielded evidence of subtle injuries to this poor victim and thus allowed the Chief Examiner to find strangulation as well as other subtle phys traumas to establish cause of death. ( This linked one is only 11 day+ discovery sequence but there were lots of other links re water alone itself can also delay decomposition, apparently eg . an old septic where the active organisms are long depleted. )

http://www.kaieteurnewsonline.com/2015/06/16/body-in-septic-tank-court-hears-gory-details-of-post-mortem-examination/

does this help at all Ironside? Will post some more links to decomp and water when it's relevant in trial as it seems pretty complex

DRR? The only time I've heard that abbreviation used in relation to a court case it's meant Drug Rehabilitation Requirement.

Anyone know any other meaning of DRR?

Ahh...possibly for the person listed above him who is also scheduled to appear at 10 o`clock. It`s unclear whether DRR refers to the person above or below!

I have looked at that entry every which way and the DRR reference does seem to refer to IS - which is most odd.

Court 1 - sitting at 10:00 AM

HIS HONOUR JUDGE BRIGHT QC

DRR - Review
For Trial (No Witnesses)
T20167121 STEWART Ian
41E12190616

for privacy purposes, I have deleted the other two names - one showing above and one below IS.

There are only 3 names listed for AM hearings ( including IS ) so I think, as Michelle says, this is going to be IS entering his plea and that will be it for him for tomorrow.

Would be very interesting if it turns out he's addicted to either illegal or prescription drugs!

Yes indeed. As I recall, there was some cancer surgery - heavy duty opioids are normally prescribed. There was talk about Helen being terrified of losing her partner, but perhaps he was more devastated by his brush with own mortality. Or, knowing what he'd done and fear of getting caught, could certainly drive someone to become dependent on drugs. Perhaps drug use is behind the charges of theft.

Purely speculation on my part.

Can't find a Bio for Judge Andrew Bright but here's a link to a previous case he tried.

Judge Andrew Bright QC admitted that some of the crook's victims had written to him saying they would "be angry" if he was spared jail.

Despite this Judge Bright QC said that he was sparing Drungelas jail and sending him on a rehabilitation programme called Choices and Consequences, commonly known as the C2 Programme.
The C2 programme, launched in 2007, is aimed at turning around the lives of "prolific offenders" to offer them a "realistic opportunity to break free from the cycle of crime".
The C2 Programme is run by Hertfordshire Constabulary in partnership with Hertfordshire Probation Service, Drug Services - and is 'under the direction of the Resident Judge, HHJ Bright at St Albans Crown Court.'
