[h=3]Web searches reveal Helen Bailey was struggling to stay awake[/h]Mr Trimmer added: “On April 8, Helen Bailey had searched on the internet and these searches revealed something very odd was going on.
“Web searches were being made by Helen Bailey along the lines that she couldn’t keep awake, and the reason for this the Crown say is quite clear, that she was being fed these sleeping drugs [by Stewart].”

[h=3]Police searched the second septic tank[/h]As police had searched the second septic tank, part of a human arm was seen in the crust of the well, jurors were told.
Helen Bailey was carefully removed from the well, sideways as not to damage her body, with the help of the fire service - as was the body of her pet dog Boris. No cause of death for the dog could be determined, the court was told.

[h=3]Stewart's phone activity[/h]On April 11, Stewart’s phone was inactive between 11.43am and 12.59pm - as well as 4.48pm and 10.02pm. He sent a text this day of ‘🤬🤬🤬’ to Helen’s phone. In a separate text he sends, he says: “I’m really worried about you, you’re not in Broadstairs, please let us know you’re OK, everyone seems worried.”

Stewart was asked at an early stage to allow police access to his phone, but he didn’t want to relinquish this to police because he said this is how Helen would contact him. Arrangements were put in place for him to have a new handset, so he could hand his existing phone over, but he claimed to have lost it and his phone was never provided to the police. He said Helen’s mobile phone had never been found.

Victim 'felt tired after being fed insomnia drug'

In the weeks leading up to her death Helen made a series of web searches.
These included: “Why do I keep falling asleep?
“Can’t stop falling asleep
“I’m so tired.
“Falling asleep at work.”
Mr Trimmer said: “The reason the crown say is that she was being fed Zopiclone.”
Traces of the drug - used to cure insomnia - were found in her hair after she died.

[h=3]Bank account activity[/h]On April 11, 2016, a login to gain entry to Helen Bailey’s sole Barclays bank account was made. Stewart attempted to set up a standing order from Bailey’s account to the joint Santander account the couple shared.
Mr Trimmer said: “This was Stewart operating to make a transaction.”
Stewart denied this offence in police interview.

[h=3]Stewart renewed her Arsenal season ticket while she was 'missing'[/h]Helen was a huge Arsenal football supporter, had held a season ticket for a number of years and regularly attended matches. The court heard Stewart renewed her season ticket, admitting he had done so and saying that Helen would have wanted him to do this because she wouldn’t have wanted it to lapse.

Had Helen's body not been found, IS would have had to wait 7 years before being entitled to claim his inheritance. He obviously didn't expect it to be found so one must assume he was happy to wait that length of time.

Indeed.

Although, he had the house to live in ( I am guessing no mortgage ) and he had changed the SO, successfully so he thought, so £4,000 a month to spend.
And he had POA, so he could have , eventually, controlled the finances, while he was waiting out the 7 years.

I wonder about his first dead wife. Do you think her family are now looking at each other with doubt in their minds? Wonder if he gained from her death? Do you think this may come into HB trial?

I believe there were doubts at the time as to what had happened. I dont mean doubts about IS ( though there may have been ) but just a feeling of so many unanswered questions. In light of what has happened now, I bet they are most definately wanting to know what happened to his wife.

[h=3]Cleaner reports changes to routine at Broadstairs house[/h]Mr Trimmer said: “The cleaner at the address in Broadstairs was used to Helen being a creature of routine.
“She was told to clean as normal but not to change the bedding in their bedroom, She was told that twice.
“She saw women’s clothes dumped on the washing basket, and not folded, which was unusual as Helen would always fold them.
“She also saw clothes were hung across chairs to dry and this was odd because Helen always used the dryer.”

[h=3]More on Helen Bailey's missing phone[/h]After Stewart called police to report Helen missing, he says that Helen’s phone “is just dead”. In fact, the prosecution claim, he had Helen’s mobile phone at this point. Helen’s friends had been told about her disappearance and had tried to contact her, but had failed. Stewart instead implies that Helen has her phone and had simply not got in touch with them, the prosecution claim. When police asked for Helen’s phone number, Stewart said “her phone is out of service, it’s out of range.”

[h=3]Stewart 'asked cleaner not to change couple's bedding'[/h]The prosecution tells the court two days after Helen’s death, cleaners visited their £1.5m home.
Mr Trimmer tells the jury Stewart twice told the cleaner not to change the bedding in their room.
He said: “The cleaner at the address in Broadstairs was used to Helen being a creature of routine.
“She was told to clean as normal but not to change the bedding in their bedroom, She was told that twice.
“She saw women’s clothes dumped on the washing basket, and not folded, which was unusual as Helen would always fold them.

Helen's brother goes to Broadstairs

John Bailey, the brother of Helen Bailey, went to Broadstairs to look for Helen, the court was told. He rang the bell, looked through the letterbox and did not hear any dog barking. He went for a walk along the promenade but did not see her or Boris. He put a note through the door and spoke to neighbours, exchanging phone numbers.

14:38
Jury told 'text to Helen's phone was a cynical ploy'

Stewart told Helen’s brother that the cleaner of the Broadstairs house would check the house for Helen – before telling him the cleaner had done so and Helen wasn’t there.
Mr Trimmer added: “The defendant went to Broadstairs – and we say at this stage he had Helen Bailey’s phone.
“At 1.24pm, Stewart’s phone was pinging off a mast in Broadstairs. He sent a text to Helen’s friend saying there were no obvious signs Helen had been at the house.”
On April 16 at 12.10pm Stewart texts the phone of Helen Bailey, saying: “Please call someone.”
“That is an entirely cynical ploy, knowing that when the records are seen he knows he will be seen as trying to contact Helen Bailey.”

The same day, Helen’s iPhone came into contact with that wifi and connected with the network.
Mr Trimmer added: “He must, therefore, have been in possession of her phone at this time. That, the Crown say, is a very significant event when asking the question of who killed Helen Bailey and who disposed of her body.”

So her brother did all the normal things, like talking to neighbours. IS did nothing like this.

Re Helen's phone pinging....he must have switched it on, to check that his text message had been received. Not so bright, this computer expert !

I'm struggling to think of a reason he would tell the cleaner at Broadstairs to leave the bedding unchanged.

Stewart 'obstructive' during police interviews

The jury was told Stewart was asked why he waited until the Friday to report her missing - he said she would be angry if he did so. The prosecution claim Stewart was quite obstructive during police interviews and refused to co-operate at one point entirely, saying he was too tired and was feeling unwell.

Ah! maybe it had Helen's dna in it, and if the cleaner changed the sheets it would be obvious Helen wasn't there because they would remain untouched. But that assumes the cleaner hadn't washed the sheets since Helen's last visit, which is unlikely.

Me too. And why were clothes being washed and left to dry at Broadstairs ? I am assuming these clothes were the ones Helen was wearing when she was suffocated. But why not just dispose of them. It's not like the police would expect IS to remember every item of clothing that Helen had.

 • #1,060
So he was wanting to create the impression that Helen had gone there. Not that she'd disappeared before she got there.
