and, re the note

Bailey’s brother John Bailey asked Stewart to read him the note but he said he couldn’t find it

Yes, the alleged note. I remember some of us questioning that from the off, whether an online note or handwritten and if latter, had it been examined by a graphologist to see whether her writing or not. For him to try and say he threw it away, no no no, all wrong.

And the police were always very careful not to give too much detail. Bet they had him on their radar almost from Day One.

Sadly, I thought that as well. I realise it was most likely used when Helen was suffocated, but he could also have used it for Boris. He doesnt strike me as the kind of person who could do a hands on killing, so easier to entice Boris into the case with the toy, and then suffocate him.
Sorry if this is too much to read, it's difficult to write but, I thought he may have put the pillowcase over Helens head, before or after, so that he didn't have to look at her 😢

Glad to have you join us Pips, your knowledge will be welcome but it will be distressing for you I'm sure. x

I do wonder if he overdosed Helen with Zopiclone ? I know suffocation has been mentioned, but I think an overdose is possible cause of death.
I do wonder how he was getting her to take them because they are bitter tasting pills. What a nasty, evil bloke.

Just been googling to see what suggestions people had for combating the taste ( I sincerly hope no one ever looks at my google history ! ) and pineapple, limes, hot chocolate with sugar are some of the tricks suggested.

Presuming that IS did take these tablets himself, at least to begin with, he would no doubt have the perfect opportunity to experiment on himself to see what could be done to reduce the awful taste.

Evil indeed.

Not sure whether it is OK to suggest this? But IMOO crushed Zopiclone would be virtually impossible to disguise - incredibly bitter tasting.
I wonder if (consider what an evil barsteward he seems) he crushed them and put the grains into empty capsules?
He may have told Helen they were some vitamins to help her tiredness?
Hope I haven't gone too far here.

I was eating my tea and a horrid thought popped into my head. If Boris had no obvious cause of death perhaps he was thrown into the cesspit alive.

I am wondering if Helen's elderly mum has attended today - can you imagine what she is going through? Hearing all this and seeing his face.

BIB Better name for him than Ian Stewart.

Back to basics

Unless Helen really was wanting to break up with him, what are posters thinking re. motive?

(If she wasn't going to split up with him, was considering marriage and seemingly happy to support him and give a home to his boys - why would he need/be motivated to kill her?)

G*d I hope not. Wouldnt there be water in the lungs if that were the case. Poor Boris, probably trusted the B*stard as well.

I hope not. It would be horrendous for her.

This comment sounds as though they are talking of a cleaner at the Royston property.

The jury heard that Helen Bailey's cleaner told of 'unusual' circumstances at the home on the day of the murder.

Mr Trimmer said that the family's cleaner would give evidence over how Ms Bailey's Jeep was moved from a parking spot outside the house to over a manhole cover above the cesspit in the garage.

'We know eventually that Helen's Jeep was parked over that manhole cover,' said the prosecutor.

'Somebody has gone to the effort of parking that Jeep over the manhole cover.'

The jury also heard that the cleaner found women's clothes dumped on a laundry basket which was 'unusual' for the late author who was 'very tidy' and a 'creature of habit.'

Good spot. Also a cleaner in Broadstairs wouldn't make sense as she was rarely there.

If that is the case - then I think it was money.
He was getting £600 a month from her, but clearly wanted more - as we can see , from his swiftly changing the SO on the same day that she was killed, and upping it to £4,000.
So her death meant he could have all the money, to do as he pleased. No more being dependent on Helen to increase his allowance.

IS may have just wanted it to be visually obvious that someone had slept in the bed at Broadstairs, leaving it a bit disheveled. Or he could have made it with used sheets from Royston.

My confusion is about the motive. Plenty of women and some men find and marry a wealthy person to secure their future. They may not love them, but if the rich spouse is as agreeable, fun and caring as Helen, why not just get married, instead of taking the enormous risk of murder? Surely Helen was grounded enough to have sensed if she was living for years with a truly pathological person? Was she that blinded by her need for a happy ending, or did something change to cause him to come up with this plot, rather than continue to live with her?

I'm a believer in intuition, especially if you are a sensitive person living with someone who is planning to kill you. Perhaps her confusion, mental fog came from her sense that something was terribly wrong but she couldn't comprehend how her loved one was secretly so malicious.

I was just wondering the same thing. He had a much more comfortable life than most.

His website is laughable quite frankly so perhaps it was some sort of damaged male pride? She was hugely successful vs his Microsoft Word and paintshop skills.

That or some people just are psychopaths.

Depends how full the tank was. I imagined it that he slowly died next to Helen starved of air and water.

I suppose we will find out how full the tank was during the trial.

He could have made a lot of noise barking though, but I don't know if that would be heard underneath the manhole cover.

I wonder if the defence will go with "Nick" and "Joe" - without even knowing any details I'm thinking this is going to be ridiculous.

I really hope they aren't the names of IS's sons.

If they don't run with that defence he's going to have to explain why he lied. He's in deep doo-doo.

Could have been the health scare. Made him realise that he might not have long to go and he wanted to enjoy what little time was left and have plenty of money at his disposal.

I agree re Helen, from what little I have read of her, I think she was smart enough to have picked up on vibes from him.
But - if he only thought of the idea recently ( ie back to the health scare time ) then by the time her inner senses should have been picking up on this, she was already being drugged and feeling sleepy and her normal warning instincts would be fogged.

Good point maybe it comes down to how much a person cares for another do they care enough to look after someone if they are sick and if so for how long? when does it become to much of a chore some people are very limited to how much they will care for someone even if they "say" that they love them, especially if the main reason that they are with them is money, the person becomes secondary to the the "real thing" that they love ie money and life style
