GUILTY UK- Major incident declared in Southport after multiple stabbings, 29 July 2024

I think ( but don’t quote me ! ) it’s the longest sentence ever given to someone under the age of 18 in the uk.
And yes … Patrick Hurley isn’t blessed with brains.
That's what they said on the BBC news last night. The only longer tariff ever set in an English court was the 55 year minimum given to the accomplice of the Manchester Arena bomber.

Criminals don't care about victims' statements.
Some even gloat listening to them.
Many shout obscenities, laugh, spit or even sing.

This is more hurtful to victims and their families than criminals' absence IMO.

There is no reason to force anybody to attend if they don't want to.
Let them rot in their cells.
They don't belong among decent people after all.

They definitely could have a secure dock that can be adapted to deal with a disruptive defendant and be one in every major Crown Court.
It doesn’t need to be barbaric.
I would just have a rule that added 10 years to the sentence of any prisoner who refused to attend or misbehaved in court. If it was a whole life order then any privileges curtailed .

They can't refuse to be arrested, they can't refuse to be charged, they can't refuse to go in a cell so why should they have the right to refuse to attend sentencing? They should have no choice in the matter IMO. If they're disruptive during sentencing, extra time or loss of privileges as suggested by PP should be the consequences. JMO

I genuinely think minimising the offenders opportunities is the better option. No movement, no sound, no chance to spit, no chance to move the head and maybe the box will signify a removal from society and confinement. Its not barbaric as its temporary and Is the first Removal of liberty.

What happens if they guarantee disruption though? I would see it as their last opportunity to Inflict pain and anguish on their victims and considering their circumstance they might see it as in their interests.

Difficult to say though if they say they will attend and be OK, should they be trusted?

In terms of a wlo they definitely have nothing to lose in terms of a life sentence not sure.

Much easier to keep them in a holding cell with cameras which can be linked to a screen in court so everyone can see them, sound if necessary can be muted .
Blast out the judges sentencing remarks from speakers in the cell.
Prisoner can be handcuffed to prevent any untoward gestures.

"Amazon 'delivered Southport killer's £1.70 knife to one his parents':

Driver claims package ordered by then 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana
was signed for by someone 'visibly over 25'."

"Axel Rudakubana
'will have bounty on his head behind bars':

Southport monster faces being held in isolation
and moved around jails
to protect him from being targeted by 'prison napalm'.

The teenage killer is rumoured to be being held in Belmarsh in south-east London -
a top security prison that houses many of Britain's most dangerous killers, sex offenders and terrorists.

But Rudakubana may be moved to other prisons around the UK regularly
for his own safety and held in isolation,
meaning his 52-year term will cost the taxpayer more than £2.7million."

I disagree - as long as their attendance doesn't unduly affect victims or the civility of the proceedings they should be made to attend.

When you are convicted and sentenced to be incarcerated the state "owns" you. You go where you're told and do what you're told when you're told. No on in custody gets a choice about anything at all.

He has what amounts to a WLO without it technically beng one. Ten years added to 52 years makes no meaningful difference to him. He likely won't outlive his minimum in any event.

Careful use of a tazer when they kick off will put a quick stop to whatever misbehavior they are engaging in!

Be fun to watch too!

Axel Rudakubana was first referred to Alder Hey's mental health services after taking a knife to Range High School in Formby and later saying that he had done so "to use it".

He was also referred to the counter-extremism programme Prevent because he had been researching school massacres on a computer at his next school, The Acorns.

There were two other referrals to Prevent, but none of them were progressed as Rudakubana had no clear ideology behind his obsession with violence.

Lancashire Police also had several interactions with Rudakubana, including one occasion in March 2022 when he was found on a bus with a knife.

His mother had also been warned to secure the knives in their house.

Just because the driver said they were visibly over 25 it doesn't mean they were. They often just tick it instead of checking. It should be a compulsory ID check regardless.
Ridiculous, IMO. Puts a burden on the poor delivery driver who is being evaluated on how many deliveries they make in a day. And why should ID be required to buy a kitchen knife anyway? The fault lies in a lackluster system of justice and it's failure to hold criminals accountable. He had been caught with knives before with no significant consequences. JMO

And yet took delivery of a knife for him.

It should be up to the adults in the house to monitor what is ordered on Amazon and brought into the house.
According to Amazon underage children need adult permission for an account and Amazon sends the adult details of each purchase made.

Its easy to put in a false date of birth on amazon or make an account in your parents name with a different email.
