A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 10-year-old girl was discovered in Surrey.
She was found after police officers were called to an address in Hammond Road, Woking, at about 02:50 BST on Thursday following a safety concern.
Det Ch Ins Debbie White said it was "a devastating incident".
Police had identified a number of individuals they would like to speak to and were not looking for anyone else, she said.
A spokesperson for the force said no-one else had been injured.

Schoolgirl suffered ‘conspicuous haemorrhage’ at site of shoulder-to-shoulder bruising, court told

:(

Detailing the internal injuries,
pathologist Dr Nathaniel Cary
said he found evidence of “conspicuous haemorrhage” at the site of “intense” bruising on Sara’s chest.

The expert agreed the injury was a “broad collar” of bruising over the front of the schoolgirl’s upper chest
under questioning by prosecutor Mr Emlyn Jones.

He previously described the injury as
“intense purplish red bruising”
around her neck and torso.

He said these could have been the result of either
“blunt impact or solid pressure, or both”.

The 10-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly beaten to death by her father Urfan, 42, before he fled to Pakistan and confessed in a 999 call: 'I killed my daughter.'

The Old Bailey heard horrific details today of the extent of her injuries which included dozens of broken bones, bites, burns and part of her finger had been cut out with a sharp instrument.

The youngster, who weighed just 27 kilograms when she died, had a collar of 'intense' purple bruising around her neck, which jurors have heard was the result of 'blunt impact, solid pressure' or strangulation.

What did the court hear on Wednesday?

On the third day of the trial at the Old Bailey, jurors heard:
  • Sara Sharif had suffered more than 70 injuries shortly before she was found dead
  • A pathologist gave her cause of death as “complications arising from multiple injuries and neglect”.
  • No natural diseases or drugs had contributed to her death, which was described as “unnatural”.
  • Older injuries included scarring on her left jawline, scars around her pelvis, a puncture wound to her forehead and marks from the lower left leg to the top of the foot.
  • Bruises on her legs were likely caused by “multiple impacts with a linear object”, likely an item used as a weapon.
  • Traces of the 10-year-old’s blood were discovered on the kitchen floor, a vacuum cleaner and a cricket bat

The descriptions of abuse in that article are hideous! What on earth!? 71 individual injuries, and no telling what she suffered previously that healed. Bites, burns, ulcerated skin, and more. And 3 adults who are supposed to love and care for her sit around and do nothing to help her. SMH

Pathologist ‘can’t exclude’ possibility that burns contributed to death, court told

:(

The pathologist noted
he “could not exclude”
the possibility that burns contributed to Sara’s death through sepsis.

Dr Cary said there was a chance that infection could have entered her blood stream and caused generalised collapse.

The schoolgirl had suffered at least 71 injuries inflicted the the days before her death, including a number of skin ulcers consistent with burns.

There was a large area of ulceration on Sara’s buttock, the court heard, while there two ulcerated areas over her ankle bones.

The jury previously heard Sara had suffered
“probable human bite marks”, an iron burn and scalding from hot water.

Schoolgirl had ‘gaping' head injury, court told

:(

A “gaping” head wound was among 71 injuries found on Sara Sharif’s body by a forensic pathologist.

Dr Cary, who carried out a three-hour post-mortem examination on 15 August 2023 last year, told jurors
she suffered a puncture wound on her forehead which was “sharp or semi-sharp” and had been left “gaping”.

Other recent injuries were identified across all parts of Sara’s body,
including on her face, fingers, ankles and back.
She was 4ft 6 and weighed 4 stone 3lbs.

He also identified multiple scars on her body,
including “blotchy scarring” on the left jawline,
multiple purple scars around the pelvis,
marks from the lower left leg to the top of the foot
and fine scars and blotchy brown discolouration on the left forearm.

The court heard no natural diseases or drugs had contributed to Sara’s death.

Sara Sharif’s death was caused by multiple injuries and neglect, court told

:(

Pathologist Dr Cary concluded the 10-year-old died from complications arising from multiple injuries and neglect, the court heard.

Her death was described as “cumulative” rather than being attributed to one specific injury or incident.

However
the pathologist said she may have gradually succumbed to two traumatic brain injuries she suffered two to five days earlier if she was left unattended.

In his conclusions he noted “widespread” injuries to the skin’s surface,
including puncture wounds, bruising and internal injuries to the abdomen.

"These findings are in keeping with significant and repetitive blunt force trauma,”
he told the Old Bailey,
adding that the pattern of injuries are in keeping with the use of an “instrument”.

Sara suffered two traumatic brain injuries 2 to 5 days before her death, court told

:(

The schoolgirl suffered two traumatic brain injuries inflicted two to five days before she died, the court heard.

The head injuries could have caused neurological symptoms including loss of consciousness, concussion, headaches, irritability, vomiting and seizures.

These “might have contributed to the death together with other injuries”,
the jury were told.

Shortly before her death her brain was deprived of oxygen causing a separate ischemic brain injury which was described as a potential “terminal event” by Dr Cary.

She also suffered bruising consistent with blunt force impact to the abdomen,
Dr Cary said.

Oh. I can't bare to read how that poor child suffered.
Imo. The only reason they fled to Pakistan was to prevent the kids from being taken into care.
So wrong! How many children? (I can't read anymore either.) Boys or Girls, and what ages? Just so wrong!!!

And what must the other children have seen, endured, and be enduring?

As someone from the UK, I have never been an advocate for the death sentence, it's in these cases my conviction waivers and I hate myself for it, I know it's not right the answer (to me), but to me there is no ambiguity no doubt they are all culpable and guilty. I know they will suffer from right of freedom. I would really like to see a whole life tariff for all three. None of this will be justice for sweet little Sara or for those that loved her. I'm still unable to process this especially as the details of her torture and inhumane treatment is published.

It gets worse - traumatic brain injury and likely died due to lack of oxygen. I am wondering what was the outcome they expected after torturing her in this way?
The outcome? In their cruel and callous minds, she would eventually die but they would get their torturing in first. She was disposable to them.

MOO

This case is despicable beyond words.

number of skin ulcers consistent with burns.:(

Partial quotes from Dotta's post, death by sepsis considering the above is not surprising.

:(

Hopefully the defendants will tear each other apart over this. There's no one injury that can be attributed to poor Sara's death, but the defence can argue that while one burnt her, the other bit her etc.

In my view the defence have an impossible cause for the so called 'father' and 'stepmother'. Yet to see about the uncle.

This is a reminder for ALL
to never hesitate
to dial 999
or whatever your country's emergency number is.
In mine - it is 112.

So that maybe another Sara
can abe saved.

Somebody's life might depend on just 3 digits.

I'm also not an advocate for the death sentence for reasons I won't get into, it's not the subject of this thread.

But of course there is the emotional side in us - and mine is screaming: Get out the thumbscrews for that sadistic trio (once they're sentenced) and then throw away the key!
imho however legal systems cannot be based on emotional reaction, no matter how appropriate it seems in a specific case. I make that distinction and don't feel guilty or need to hate myself over it.

Even if 'life sentence' doesn't mean 'forever', there is still legal means to keep somebody in prison forever in the UK and I hope all three are in there forever. No way can that evil be 'cured'.

Why should they get to be alive when she is not? Just a happy child living her little life and then to be tortured, TORTURED, and they can’t even face up to it, hiding behind each other, no one is responsible when all three are responsible.
