UK - Sara Sharif, 10, found murdered in house, Surrey, Aug 2023 *POIs ARREST* #3

It is perhaps not too much of an assumption to make that if the adults in the household had persistently treated Sara with complete disregard for her welfare; had persistently and violently abused her, over such a extended period of time, using deliberate restraint, with the apparent intention to cause her as much physical harm and humiliation as possible, and all under the guise of ‘discipline’ for perceived ‘naughtiness’ - that every member of that household, including the children, would have been conditioned and encouraged to treat her the same way.
MOO
I do wonder that too. The eldest boy was 13 and so must have been aware of how Sara was being treated. I do so hope that she received love from her younger half siblings ,as I imagine Sara must have spent time looking after them.

What are the potential outcomes for the accused? Can they be found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child if murder isn't sufficiently proven? I apologise if this has been asked and answered before- like many others I have found this case just too awful to follow closely up to now.

Judging by sentences in Logan M. trial -
both perps ( stepfather and mother) got life sentences with minimum 29 and 28 years respectively.

(VERY long time lurker, first time poster so apologies if I've missed anything...!)

New information (I've not seen before) in this Sky News article.
As others have said - utterly evil and barbaric. Sickening to think what this poor young girl went through, apparently for such a prolonged period of time.

How they can plead not guilty is beyond me, especially with his verbal and written confessions and the Stepmother's messages to her sister(s). She should have reported him years ago and saved that poor girls' life.
Disgusting.
The only one I can see who has any potential to be innocent is the uncle (I've not seen or heard any evidence of his direct involvement?) but there's a VERY slim chance he knew nothing about it IMO.

"Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones KC said jurors may get a better sense of how the wounds were inflicted as he outlined the potential weapons found by police in a search of the home.

A length of black rope with strands of Sara's hair stuck on it, a rolling pin and a plastic-coated metal pole or baton, were all found in a small brick outhouse, while a cricket bat stained with blood matching Sara's DNA was leaning outside.

In bins to the side of the house, officers found a filthy nappy with a match to Sara's DNA, and "strange looking objects" made of bits of plastic bag wrapped up with parcel tape, some stained with blood or clumps of hairs.

Mr Emlyn Jones described them as "homemade hoods", adding: "They had been placed over Sara's head, we suggest and then taped in place."

Batool's Amazon shopping history showed she had bought 18 rolls of parcel tape in July alone, the jury was told."
I think that outhouse was where most of the punishment was carried out. Looking at @Dotta 's pic below, there is a structure at the side of the house. I think this is the outhouse referred to.

The family home where schoolgirl was found dead

Surrey Police discovered the schoolgirl dead in a bedroom at her home in Woking on 10 August last year (Surrey Police)

The court heard that expert analysis of some of the child’s bruises concluded that they could have been caused by a pole or the buckle of a belt recovered from a children’s Wendy house in the garden (Surrey Police)

Is there really a legal doubt that there might not be a way to issue a whole life tariff in a case like this? I'm not from the UK.
It depends on what they are found guilty of. If found guilty of murder, I can see that there is a distinct possibility at least one will be given a whole life tariff. There is no mitigation ( e.g. a guilty plea) to lessen a sentance and they did flee the country. Fingers crossed.

The trial of Urfan Sharif, Beinash Batool and Faisal Malik has resumed for the fourth day at the Old Bailey.

Jurors are expected to hear evidence from Professor Anthony Freemont,
an osteoarticular pathologist.

I'm surprised how heavily accented her English is.
I understood she was born in the UK.
How strange!

Sara Sharif had sustained fractures to fingers ‘12 to 18 days’ before death

Sara Sharif had suffered fractures in her fingers and left hand up to 12 to 18 days before her death, the Old Bailey has heard.
She had also suffered a fracture to her hyoid bone in her neck, which is believed to have occurred between six to 12 weeks before she died on 8 August.
Jurors have heard from Professor Anthony Freemont, an osteoarticular pathologist, who examined bones from Sara’s body.
He added that her bone marrow had been “unusual” in his examination, and had shown up with a “bluey tinge” which revealed itself to be gelatinous transformation of the bone marrow. This can often be associated with starvation or the rapid removal of nutrition, although Professor Freemont could not say if this was a direct cause.

I just really can't understand the mentality of people who do this. What is their endgame - how do they see this panning out? Surely any person with the slightest modicum of common sense would know that this course of action (beating, starving, and Lord only knows what else) is only ever going to end in death?
I can (almost) understand losing control ONCE and hurting the child, but this systemic abuse is totally beyond my comprehension. The only "type" of person I've ever encountered capable of this kind of obsessive hatred is a Narcissist

Fractures to her hand and neck could be linked to 'direct blow’ or ‘manual strangulation’

Detailing her injuries,

Professor Freemont said that Sara’s injury to the capitate bone in her left hand was “rare” in children,

and was usually caused by “falling onto the outstretched hand or a direct blow to the hand”.

Asked if the fractures to her fingers were unusual, he responded:

“They’re seen relatively frequently and they’re commonly associated with pulling the fingers apart.”

Of the fracture to her hyoid bone, he said:
“It depends on the setting but in the setting of neck compression,
it’s fractured in 25 per cent of cases,
the most common type of cases is manual strangulation.”

I remember Olga said U. tried to strangle her with a belt.
(It was reported in links in thread 1.)

I suspect he did it to Sara as well.
Belt seems to feature frequently in this case.

PS
I found it.
It is in Polish MSM from last year:

Olga said
"There was a situation when he told me not to go anywhere.
I said I was going because my friend was waiting for me.
Then he started choking me with a belt."

How did this happen to Sara Sharif? What we know about the events leading to schoolgirl’s death

Schoolgirl Sara Sharif was hooded, restrained and beaten with a belt buckle and pole in a “campaign of abuse” lasting more than two years before her death, a court has heard.

[…]

All three deny murder and the defence is yet to mount its case.

[…]

It is alleged Sara had died two days before and within hours the defendants had booked a flight out of the country.

Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones KC said evidence, including a soiled nappy, makeshift hoods, and a variety of potential weapons such as rolling pins and a cricket bat, suggested more than one adult was involved.

[…]

Trial breaks for lunch

The trial has broken for lunch and will resume at 2pm.

"Signs of starvation"
(from above headline)

She was sooo thin in the photo in blue hijab.
Literally "skin & bones".

But her brother was also thin as I wrote in earlier post.
I saw a picture of kids in Pakistani Court
and the boy was painfully thin, with bones sticking out.
(I noticed it immediately as I hate seeing sticking out bones)

But he was also tall,
so maybe thinness was connected to sudden "growth jump".

The abuse, in some form, goes back at least to 2018 ( Thread One, trial evidence )

Without detailing the other childrens ages etc, it is fair to say that some of them were not even around at that time and the others were very young. So they all have just grown up with this abuse to Sara being part of their life. :(

Adding the link, just for clarity

Rebecca Spencer told the court that she heard the noises “from the moment” the Sharif family moved into a flat on Eden Grove in West Byfleet in around 2018 to 2019, prosecutor William Emlyn Jones KC told jurors.

"Trial resumes

Prosecutor Bill Emlyn-Jones
has resumed questioning Surrey Police analyst
Vernie Govender at the Old Bailey.

We’ll bring you all the latest updates."

This Independent co.uk

Well done!

Pathologist says ‘high likelihood’ injuries are non-accidental

:(

Earlier this morning,
Professor Freemont said was questioned on the nature of the injuries and told jurors:

“If you find fractures of different ages and different bones,
there is a high likelihood they are non-accidental injuries.”

The pathologist went on to say that the bone marrow he examined from Sara’s body showed changes which could have been caused by starvation or
“the rapid removal of all food”.

The previous day,
jurors heard that another pathologist who carried out a post-mortem examination on Sara’s body gave the girl’s cause of death as
“complications arising from multiple injuries and neglect”.

It seems the first week is dedicated solely to Prosecution.
