How the heck does it not reach the conditions for a whole life tariff?

A whole life tariff is a rare sentence. Usually, there are extreme circumstances...when a defendant held a position of trust or a there is a serious danger risk to the wider public.

A minimum term however can work in a similar way...this is a term to be served before an application for parole can be made. But doesn't mean in anyway that parole will be granted.

Hoping for lengthy minimum terms for both murder convictions.

I never thought they'd get a whole life tariff but I'm hoping it's a hefty sentence. Anything less than 35 would be very disappointing.

Sara's mother's statement:

In a moving victim impact statement, she said: 'Sara was always smiling. She had her own unique character. The only thing I had left to give to my daughter was to give her a beautiful Catholic funeral that she deserves.

'She is now an angel who looks down on us from heaven, she is no longer experiencing violence. To this day, I can't understand how someone can be such a sadist to a child.'

Ms Domin said of Urfan Sharif, Beinash Batool and Faisal Malik: 'You are sadists although even this word is not enough for you. I would say, you are executioners.'

10 minutes until sentencing!

Emlyn Jones is still arguing for it.
The same as in the Logan Mwangi case. The prosecution argued for a WLT for John Cole but the judge disagreed. His argument was that if parliament had wanted a parent murdering their child to attract a WLT then they could have written that into the legislation, but didn't.

I wish they were allowed to film the convicted.

Plastic bags put over her head and taped on with a hole for her to breathe. I feel physically sick!

This is abysmal.
Nothing less than a WLO

Just been looking at the legislation and this is the relevant section for what would normally attract a WLO. I think the judge would need to convince himself that there was a sadistic motivation in order to apply one -

(b)the murder of a child if involving the abduction of the child or sexual or sadistic motivation,

[F1(ba)the murder of a child involving a substantial degree of premeditation or planning, where the offence was committed on or after the day on which section 125 of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 came into force,]

No whole life order. Shame. I hope he gets over 40 years. I really think that the judge will give the maximum the law allows him .
