and he sure said one thing right, according to the police report: "if i did it, then i deserve to die". hey you said it, dude. i say we help relieve him of the burden of being alive. we could use the extra oxygen anyway.

It sure is a relief that this guy is off the streets. He is so obviously guilty. If he doesn't cop a plea and goes through a trial, then all I can say is :furious: .

I, too, appreciate the statements made by Burlington police in their latest press release. If only society would listen... :(

I am very proud of The Burlington Police Department:clap:

Rooney told police he doesn't remember what happened that night because he was drunk and blacked out. "I honestly don't know what I did that night. If I did it I deserve to die," he said, according to the affidavit.

"We've already had internal discussions about it," he said. "I want to convene gatherings of people within and without the system, including battered-women-shelter workers, the courts and the law enforcement community."

The law does not mandate that Family Court judges or clerical workers report domestic abuse and sexual assault claims to police when they are handling requests from women seeking court orders protecting them from abuse by spouses or relationship partners.

Battered-women's shelters and organizations like the Women's Rape Crisis Center in Burlington also are not required to inform police of such claims, unless the allegations involve a "vulnerable person," such as a child or an elderly or disabled person.

*********WOW!!!!!!!!!************

CAN I STAND UP AND GET A BIG CHEER for the burlington police?? they said something that i rarely ever, EVER hear-- which is the most obvious thing to say,, but strangely, no one ever seems to say it:

"As a society we must do more to educate boys and men to stop acts of violence against women."

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Amen!

This police department did a great job. They just got right on it and had the case solved in no time.

Rooney is a fool not to pled "Guilty." That DNA is going to hang him. He has NO chance of getting out of this one. That old "I don't remember" isn't going to cut it. If he did really black out....so what. He still took the life of an innocent women who had such a promising life ahead of her.

Women have got to remember to protect themselves when they are out in the bars and stay with their friends. There have been so many females and males dying or just disappearing never to be seen again when they have left bars alone. In this day and age women can't afford to be out wandering alone.

YES. This needs to be drilled into young people's brains. Chances are you will never be a victim of a violent crime, but the world is not as safe as you think it is.

Even as murder suspect Brian L. Rooney pleaded not guilty Thursday to allegations he sexually assaulted and killed University of Vermont student Michelle Gardner-Quinn, questions lingered about what happened the night she vanished.

The police have such hard evidence against this guy I just wonder if his plea is something suggested by his lawyer to open the discussion amongst the DA and Rooney. Maybe the plea is just a tactic to try and get a life sentence with a possibility of parole instead of as it stands now life without the possibility. If he goes on the stand in a trial with the blackout story and the DA starts hammering away at him I can't see how he won't crack under that pressure. Bad move on the plea.

dark_shadows, does Vermont have the death penalty? If so I think this guy should count himself lucky that they are not pursuing it given the evidence.

Hi Gmommy,:)
Vermont does not have a death penalty.
Although Donald Fell did get the death penalty under Federal sentencing.

Definitely an interesting read, thank you for the link. It's always hard for me to imagine teenagers being scam artists or con artists-especially when their parents are also involved. Not that this kid got what he deserved, nobody deserves that :(

Gmommy,
He had photos of a woman taken at the gorge (where Michelle was found murdered). He had many photos and video tapes of women that are victims. They are also still in his camera that was seized.
He had instructions for the making of GHB the rape drug.
He had photocopies of job applications of many women. This was from a job he did in Williston years ago.He was bannned from there.
He has an unfinished home three miles from the spot in the gorge where Michelle was found.
That is just some of it.

It's standard procedure in the legal system to plead not guilty at the outset. It pretty much would be professional negligence for a criminal defense lawyer to advise his/her client otherwise. It's the way our system works, the State has the burden to prove guilt. It's very hard to take sometimes, but that's what sets us apart from other countries.

Thanks for all the scoop darkshadows. Please give us more!! It's so frightening to think there are such warped humans among us!

DK... holy crap!! wow. that's some list.

<He had photos of a woman taken at the gorge (where Michelle was found murdered). He had many photos and video tapes of women that are victims. They are also still in his camera that was seized.>

so- you're saying that these are women who they know are dead? or were these victims of someone else & he has photos of them?

re: his having applications of women applying for jobs.. that's one of those fears in the back of my brain when putting my address down somewhere.. i hope there's not some psycho who will get a copy of it. and what do you know,,, there actually are guys out there like that.

Hi Reb,:)
Some of photos were taken of unidentified women at the gorge.Sorry the post quoted should have said more than one woman. No,I was not saying that they were dead.It is assumed that they were alive.
Also there are other photos of women who do not appear to be conscious. Those women were not identified.
It was not said where the other photos and video tapes were taken. There are many photos. Those were seized from his parents house. He also stayed in a camper on his parents property at times.
