Australia Australia - Marion Barter, 51, missing after trip to UK, June 1997 #11

Anything is possible. I seem to remember JO saying RB told her to go to a particular travel agent to book a flight to get back to Australia. Does anyone recall this? I thought that was a little suspicious. Maybe he was paying someone off to delay her flight back?

Absolutely agree. The only reason I can come up with is, whoever was making the withdrawals convinced the Manager or Accountant that this was how it was going to be done. Manager speaks to Teller, and person withdrawing went to the same Teller each day. Having worked in a Bank I can say some...

After reading your theories I thought yes, it could have been phone banking. But no it couldn’t be. They wouldn’t have been noted as withdrawals from “Byron Bay” if it was phone banking, daily direct debit authority, or online, as it would have shown up as being withdrawn from her branch where...

I’ve just been checking and an article online states Armidale Teachers college. Way back on the thread it says 8 minutes into the first Podcast they say it was Wagga Wagga Teachers college. So it must be Wagga

Marion went to Teachers College in Armidale? I seem to remember this information from an early podcast. Please anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

We know Marion’s outgoing passenger card states Korea, but are we sure it was just a stopover with or without changing planes, or actually staying in Korea for a few days and then flying to Japan, before continuing on to London. I’m not sure why I’m stuck on Korea.

Does anyone think it’s possible they met up in Korea? and spent time there before continuing to London?

I think you’ve been reading my mind lol. I’ve been looking at accommodation around Nymboida village for quite a while now. 25 years ago, it could have been very different though. RB did proclaim at the Inquest he had never heard of Nymboida and has no knowledge of where it is. He was a bit...

JO (or GGB), mentioned she felt as though she had been drugged. She didn’t know how she ended up undressed in the bedroom. After hearing that, I’ve always had a nagging feeling he may have used something to calm Marion, and either used too much or she had a medical episode because of the drug used.

It is possible that Marion, after speaking to her Bank, decided to open the Barclays account as a back up, especially if RB had told her she didn’t need to take much as he was cashed up. He did this with JO? So they are stranded when he is bashed up and in hospital in another country. Even...

IF it was Marion, it’s plausible that she may have lost a pair of glasses while overseas or on the plane/at the airport, particularly if she was stressed and rushed to get back to Australia. I’d say in a shopping centre it was OPSM or similar. The Optometrist was at the 2021 Inquest and had no...

Totally agree. It just doesn’t add up! I imagine Byron Bay was a fairly small branch, and having worked in a bank in the 80s and early 90s, this type of transaction going on over weeks would have been noticed by more staff than just the teller who was serving the person withdrawing the cash. I...

This is the big question. Beginning to feel like it wasn’t Marion who came back to Australia. RB has an incredible history of forgery, fraud and impersonation. He definitely needed an accomplice to complete withdrawal of the money though.

I think the Problem with Barclays account was that it was in Marion Barters name and her Passport was in Remakel so she didn’t have the ID to get money out there, so no point in her transferring more to that account.

The $20,000 transferred to Barclays Bank in England has a balance around $14,900, and was sent back to CBA. Can be found doing an ASIC search of unclaimed money. Anyway some money has been withdrawn, and it would be useful to know what those transactions were and when. I’m thinking $5000...

Just a small point, when AC is talking to RB at the Inquest about meeting Marion in Switzerland in the 60s. AC sounds like he is pronouncing Lausanne, and so does RB. When AC asks what they did together in Lausanne, he says Marion was very interested in the Chapel bridge (Kapellbrucke). That...

Exactly what I’ve been thinking…. Some fingerprints from the 1960s, 1970s and a DNA test to sort this mess out….

Do you think it’s possible that she wasn’t sure who the father was, and had babies blood tested when born and realised WW wasn’t the father, or MJR got cold feet back in Belgium when IK realised she was pregnant, and WW saw a chance to get residency in Australia by helping her out. I may be...

I was just thinking about this. Why did AC ask Sally in the first or second day of the Inquest if her mother had an interest in Korean food, restaurants or Korean culture? Her response was No to all. Have I missed something?
