From my observations with SS and my opinion which I'm no doctor either lol, he didn't start throwing the mental illness until after 2015 if you watch his videos. Which are horrifying lol
And he never mentioned panic attacks until whatever happened on his birthday that scared Natalie. He won't tell what happened so I'm sure it's not good. I have my theories. He done so much to Natalie in that last year and he still don't take blame for anything. It's everyone else's fault. He's the victim, but no Natalie is the victim. He stalked her and sat in car and honked the horn for 3 hours cause he wanted to see her. I think he does need help I don't deny that but he also uses it when he is in the wrong.

Also wanted to say i do suffer from severe anxiety and dysthymic disorder and have panic attacks and it's not fun. I can't breathe or talk while I'm having one which he clearly does. My heart races really fast and it's a terrifying experience. SS has claimed to have a panic attack for 6 months and there is no way he could. It's just things like that, that let you know he's smarter than he acts and he needs someone's attention

Look up narcissistic. It is often confused with autism. He United boundaries and he chooses not to follow them. Whether he killed NB or not he stalked and harrased her for over a year. He made several fake accounts to get in contact with her. He has since put her whole life on Facebook and even commented on her dad's Facebook post before funeral. He is sick

It's obvious that he's got Asperger's. My ex has it & would say some of the same things RE: the way their brains work & how their brains are so much faster than our's, etc.
I lived with my ex for almost 8 yrs. I witnessed it (Asperger's) on a daily basis.
The daughter my ex & I have together has severe autism (she's nonverbal).
I'd be shocked if Shawn wasn't on the spectrum. I am certain he is.
He most likely has other (s) DX, too.

100% agree :)

Exactly gossheather. Firstly I wish things were different for you - anxiety and panic disorders just plain suck - I always have so much respect for people who will stand up and share their experiences on anxiety - all credit to you!!

And re the panic attacks - I couldn't agree more. I know there has been some differing opinions on this thread about the nature and definition of panic attacks - although I have my professional opinion, observations and experience I also very much respect those who have a different idea of what panic is. In saying that, you've summed it up so clearly in terms of the clinical diagnosis of panic - the attacks are so all-consuming and debilitating, a person experiencing even a mild panic attack can't sustain that level of adrenaline release for any extended period of time. It's the surrounding anxiety symptoms that often blur into the 'true' panic attack which is why people sometimes feel their attacks go on and on and on - SS is a perfect example of this. But, tbh, those who view it differently absolutely have the right to see it a different way - I just wish noone had to experience these disorders - they limit people's lives so very much.

Edit: just wanted to add that I think SS (and possibly others) get some sense of reassurance when there is a label for how they are feeling/their symptoms. An acknowledgement that there is a reason they are feeling the way they are. For instance, I'm the first to admit consulting Dr Google time to time - when I have a symptom without an explanation it's frustrating. Even if I can't get a resolution for the symptom, having a reason for it, or a name for it, makes me feel better, like the symptom is acknowledged. I think SS experiences some of this. He is quite messed up, and I don't mean this in a disrespectful way, but he is. If he can group some of his anxiety symptoms and label it panic attacks, he probably feels better because he can identify a reason for feeling the way he does. Otherwise his feelings are just one big jumbled mess which would be overwhelming to him...all IMO of course :)

Yes we all have somewhat different opinions about SS but that's ok cause if we all agreed on everything in the world what a boring place it would be lol. We would have nothing to talk about lol. I know SS has problems and needs to get help that he refuses. I know when I first started getting anxiety I didn't want to take meds for it and asked me Dr about something herbal and she said nothing that would work lol. So it got to the point I couldn't handle the adrenaline always feeling like something was about to happen but never did lol. I'm glad I did get meds and it took a few to find the ones that work for me cause we are all different with what works lol. I just wish SS would get help and quit talking about NB, AB, and MB. These young girls need to be left alone by him and he just keeps trying to get them to respond and he knows it's wrong. He's lot older than them and if they say leave me alone he should do that. They have been through so much in there lives and he won't let them grieve even and it's just sad to me. Thanks for sharing your story too [emoji173]

Yep I see both sides. SS keeps the case alive, but the focus is completely on him

It's funny this was not a case I thought would take this long for an arrest, regardless of who is responsible for killing Natalie. Justice can be so unpredictable. I hope her loved ones can find strength in each day and I hope they see justice sooner rather than later.

This case has apsolutely fascinated me from the beginning. I too thought there would be a quick arrest (not the obvious one)

After the presser on January 3rd, I really felt that LE knew exactly what had happened and who was responsible. But now I’m not so sure. If they are being overly cautious and mentioning “not messing anything up to secure a conviction”, to me, the person they suspect has a lawyer, and a decent lawyer. I think that if SS did this, the evidence is clear enough. Still need to be cautious of course, but I am not sure if it would be necessary to be this tight lipped for SS. He likely wouldn’t have a great lawyer, either.

Back to the basics. If what LE said during the presser is true, and there is no threat to the community and is an isolated incident, that seems to be a family member, boyfriend, or stalker situation OR the person was in custody as of January 3rd for unrelated charges. I do wonder if it is possible that she got back into the drug scene and it was a deal gone wrong, but to me, that would still leave a threat to the public unless they are in custody for unrelated charges.

It does make you ponder when LE say there's no need to worry about any other threats, doesn't it. Could be any of those options you said - and also if they have the person under surveillance but that gets mighty expensive after a while if an arrest doesn't come fast. And with nothing coming out in the media, no more press conferences or updates, we have zero to work with grrr.

I know we can't bring over SM/Facebook stuff apart from the usual exceptions, but has anyone heard any rumblings or gossip that's worth going over to SM to look at? It all just feels so quiet. Maybe quiet before the storm?

Nope. Just a lot of drama. Nothing new at all. Same speculation going around and around again.

Thanks eastcoaster -<modsnip>

I just wish LE would at least give an update about how things are progressing...but I guess even that wouldn't help much unless they revealed new info, because we know LE often says one thing but can hold their cards close to their chest, especially before an arrest is made. Just so badly want whoever is responsible to be held accountable.

Dec 22 protection order filed by Natalie against SS. On Dec. 22, the order was granted by an Adams County judge

Here is the case detail from the protection order case from the Colorado Courts website.

attachment.php

Dec 28 last last seen leaving her family’s home Thursday afternoon around 3:30pm
Dec 29 found dead near 11600 Riverdale Road in unincorporated Adams County

The Adams County Sheriff's Office considers the approximately 26-hour period that passed between Broomfield resident Natalie's last contact with her family and the discovery of her body as critical to its homicide investigation.

"That's a critical time we are looking at," McIntosh said. "If anyone came into contact with her on the telephone or on social media or there is a photo of her out there, those are all things that would be important to our investigation."

Jan. 5 SS posted on Facebook asking the police to come find him and “put me in the ground.” When officers arrived, they took him to Boulder Community Health for a mental health hold. He was placed under arrest for obstruction but as officers were trying to escort him to the patrol car, he refused to walk and yelled at the officers.

Jan. 9 SS in custody on charges of second-degree assault on the officer

Jan. 22 Natalie's funeral

-- no further media --

Misc facts:

The cause of death is still under investigation.

No suspects have named at this time.

SS is not currently in jail.

There is no direct quote from any law enforcement anywhere saying SS is a suspect and they specifically declined to comment on him in the presser.

What can you do now?

Look for any online activity from Natalie during the 26 hour time period LE are investigating (or evidence of her activities via 3rd parties)
Check out other POIs and possible connections, statements etc (but be careful naming people or quoting SM here, send anything relevant to LE)
Ask the media to followup on the case with some factual investigative journalism.
Resist the urge to contact SS or interact with him in any way unless you're a qualified professional.

The only thing I see that is incorrect is that she was last seen at 3:30 leaving her family’s house. I don’t believe she was actually seen. She spoke with someone in her family, by text or phone, and it made them realize something wasn’t right so they reported her missing within 2 hours. It was also 23 hours, not 26 between last contact and being found. The sheriff incorrectly stated 26, but corrected to 23. Media ran with the 26 hours.

If it was a text sent, and not a phone call, in theory she could have been killed much earlier, and someone was using her phone pretending to be her. I would love to see her call logs and pings

SS has been named a POI.

Thanks for the summary Vail :)
