I'm very concerned we are in for more terror attacks during the summer and not just on aircraft. There is great concern that the Euro football tournament in Paris France soon may be targeted too. We are living in very dangerous times now.

Trains and train stations. Europeans move from city to city and country to country by trains. Many tourists are travelling over the summer and large groups of people gather at the stations. Bags are not checked except for Thalys and Eurostar.People are carrying bags and luggage. I am hoping there will be some kind of security on the trains like there was when I was in Brussels after the Paris attacks,I had 6 uzi(?) carrying officers in my car.

That picture really seems off to me. I don't get it at all. Do you joke about these things, as cabin crew? It looks like a professional picture. Is it some kind of modelling shot? Because how would you even pose for that...? Aside from photoshopped elements I mean. I am so confused.

So, they have narrowed down the search area to about 40 square miles, as that is where they are finding debris. But there may be black-box-recovery issues due to the deep waters and bumpy underwater terrain in that specific area.

The European Space Agency, combing through satellite data, said on Friday that it had spotted a “potential oil slick” about 25 miles southeast of the plane’s last known location. The oil slick appeared to be more than a mile long, the agency said.

“If that is correct, then it has landed on a feature we call the Mediterranean Ridge,” said William B.F. Ryan, a scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory .......

The water there is about 1.5 miles deep and the Mediterranean Ridge is pushed upward by the African plate that slides under the Aegean Sea, deforming and crumbling the seafloor.
Picking out wreckage from among the bumps, perhaps 50 to 100 feet in size, could be somewhat complex, he said. But if the plane’s black boxes are sending out ultrasonic locator signals, they should be able to be located.

Me too! And when was that posted? I don't do FB so have no idea how it works. Very poor taste even despite this recent tragedy IMO

I looked at the Daily Mail story again and I'm failing to copy to quite directly but it says something like she uploaded it in 2015 and it's a picture that isn't her, could just be a picture she liked? Very gallows humoured if you work in aviation.

For sure. Speaking to prior tragedy.

I am starting to think this was mechanical or structure failure.Nothing seen on satellites and no big debris field also the way the plane behaved prior to crashing. This thought helps me to get on the plane.

Hang on to that. It's all good for you. I just know/feel it.

Somebody just shot at/near the White House. In custody The world has gone mad!!!!

Chances are unless they have a reason to target your flight- destination/airline/date, etc (Sept 11th was chosen for the date and the Airlines- American & United)... you probably have nothing to worry about. That thought gave me some comfort with the Ireland trip. Tons of people fly and arrive safely every day.

That's probably related to election craziness.:scared:

LOL I hear you. Off I go to a Celebration. Family BBQ. It is a long weekend here in Canada. Stay safe everyone and embrace the moments of meaning.

I see what you mean. Why would she post something like that? Was she a suicide bomber? Did she think she'd walk away? Either way, it's in very poor taste.

She posted it two years ago, and if you search the image it turns up all over the place as "flight attendant humour". It's nothing, just a bit of black humour.

Well considering she posted that, and it could well be an inside job, I still think it's reason to investigate her...

EgyptAir flight data show smoke alerts before crash: Source

(CNN)[Updated story, posted at 4:26 p.m. ET]

There were smoke alerts aboard EgyptAir Flight 804 in the minutes before it crashed in the Mediterranean Sea early Thursday, flight data filed through the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) show. CNN obtained the data through a screen grab from an Egyptian source.
The time stamps match the approximate time the aircraft went missing. ACARS is a data link for sending messages between planes and ground facilities.

So what does that mean- fire alone (mechanical), or fire caused by explosion/missile?? Or someone started a fire??

Yeah, I was just reading this. So it looks like something happened probably in the avionics bay (which is near/below the forward toilet/cockpit as I understand it).

The full messages are as follows:

00:26Z 3044 ANTI ICE R WINDOW
00:26Z 561200 R SLIDING WINDOW SENSOR
00:26Z 2600 SMOKE LAVATORY SMOKE
00:27Z 2600 AVIONICS SMOKE
00:28Z 561100 R FIXED WINDOW SENSOR
00:29Z 2200 AUTO FLT FCU 2 FAULT
00:29Z 2700 F/CTL SEC 3 FAULT

The last two are the key ones.

Auto flt likely relates to the autopilot system and a probable failure (https://hursts.org.uk/airbus-nonnormal/html/ch11.html#idm46770489744832)

F/CTL seems to be related to the spoilers (https://hursts.org.uk/airbus-nonnormal/html/ch05.html#idm46770490150432)

So the crew would have been dealing with a fire that seems to have very quickly impacted autopilot and their ability to control the plane.
