Haleigh's Case At a Standstill

When it comes to the investigation, there's not much new to report.

Griffis said she and her daughter keep in touch with investigators at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Griffis said, the investigators have "this one path that they're on. But everything that comes into them just goes nowhere-- but right back to the same road they're going down. Until they get all the information they need, we're at a standstill."

The case of the missing girl has periodically shifted attention onto so many different angles and extra players in the past few months.

Haleigh's mother said, "I think it's nonsense because [the attention] should not be taken off of Haleigh, and it has been. Everybody is worried about what everybody else is doing. They need to be worried about Haleigh."

By Kristin Chambers
Published: Wednesday, June 3, 2009
"Haleighbug" building on U.S. 17 stands vacant - at least in Putnam County.

Due to seizures, Crystal Sheffield, can no longer drive from her home in Baker Coun-ty, Kim Picazio, said.

"It's about the mother and the missing child, so we just decided to move it to her," Picazio said.

The Haleighbug Foundation became a registered nonprofit organization in early May, and will now be run out of Baker County on the family's hay farm. http://www.palatkadailynews.com/articles/2009/06/03/news/news01.txt

SATSUMA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - During a round table gathering between different law enforcement agencies Thursday night, it was determined that still some of the more 4,000 leads received have yet to be followed up on in the case of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Law enforcement officials discussed what had been accomplished in the case so far, and also determined what other directions needed to be pursued. In a release issued Friday, officials also confirmed that a lot of evidence initially collected by crime scene technicians has not yet been analyzed.

No suspects were identified during the meeting, and no one originally thought as a suspect was eliminated. Officials said they want to emphasize that the case is not cold, and that there are still leads to be followed, evidence to be analyzed and previous interviews to be re-conducted.

The group plans to meet again in a month if the case has not been solved. “There were a lot of new ideas and a lot of things that we’ve looked at that we’re going to look at again,” Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said. “We are going to follow this through to the end.”

Haleigh disappeared from her bedroom on Feb. 9, 2009. She has not been seen since.

Investigators discussed the best ways to prioritize the leads that need to be followed up.

The sheriff's office also said some evidence that was initially collected by FDLE crime scene technicians has not yet been analyzed.

"There were a lot of new ideas and a lot of things that we've looked at that we're going to look at again," Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said. "We are going to follow this through to the end."

No suspects were identified and no persons were eliminated as suspects at the meeting, the sheriff's office said. The group will meet again in 30 days if the case has not yet been solved.

Sex offender database and registry
July 1, 2009 10:21PM
<snipped>
Unfortunately, Florida is becoming known for having a high percentage of sex offenders. This is one of the reasons why it is imperative that citizens utilize the sex offender database. Many of the leading, national crimes against children have been taking place in Florida. Missing children from Adam Walsh to Haleigh Cummings have kept Florida in the headlines for decades. As the recent case with Haylee Donathan shows, caregivers must be aware whom they are bringing into their lives, as well as the lives of their children. Keeping tabs on registered sex offenders and predators is key to ensuring children's safety and well-being.

One service provided by the Florida sex offender database includes Email alerts. With Email alerts you can monitor a specific address, ensuring that you receive automatic notification should sexual predators or offenders move to or move from your area. You can also monitor individual sexual predators and offenders as well.

Finally, another option provided by the Florida sex offender registry is the Email/screen name search tool. You can enter an Email address or Internet screen name to determine whether or not the name or Email has been associated with a registered sex offender or predator.

Authorities on Friday dug up the remains of a horse and other animals at the Baker County home of one of Haleigh Cummings' grandmothers to ensure that the missing Putnam County girl's body is not among the remains.

The search took place at the 25-acre tract belonging to Marie Griffis, Haleigh's maternal grandmother.

"We are going back over our notes and conducting secondary searches. There has not been any new information leading us that way. We are pretty much going to dig up the horse," Greenwood said. "There is no information that she is buried there at all. We just want to cover our bases to make sure we don't leave any stone unturned."

Extensive searches were conducted for weeks after the disappearance in Satsuma and elsewhere without success.

"We are checking every place more than one time," Greenwood said. "Just because we checked it before doesn't mean we didn't miss something."

New search in Haleigh case covers mom's family property
About 40 officers from multiple law-enforcement agencies converged on the Baker County home of Crystal Sheffield.
Story updated at 2:54 AM on Saturday, Jun. 27, 2009

Kim Picazio, a South Florida attorney who is representing Sheffield for free, said her client's family requested the search a few weeks ago to dispel any lingering accusations against Haleigh's mother.

"It was a way to protect the family from any allegations of wrongdoing," Picazio said. "They wanted a proper search on their property to make it clear to the world that Haleigh isn't there," she said.

Piscitello declined to comment if Sheffield and her family had advance notice of the search, but he said they signed a consent form allowing officers to come onto the property without a search warrant.

But William "Cobra" Staubs, a South Florida bounty hunter and former associate of Picazio's who helped in the hunt for Haleigh, said Sheffield was told last Friday about the upcoming search.

"They definitely knew about it ahead of time," he said.

This is the first large-scale operation in almost two months, authorities said. Investigators have been slogging through thousands of tips regarding the Satsuma girl's disappearance, and Piscitello said they haven't stopped for the kindergartner with the sandy brown hair.

"We'll leave no stone unturned," he said. "We haven't given up. Not for one second."

Police dig on family farm
Only animal remains found in search for missing child
Wednesday, July 1, 2009 10:58 AM EDT
<snipped>
“It was something that had been in the works, not like there had been a tip or anything,” Brannan said.

According to police, follow-up interviews with family members revealed that some animals had been buried on the property within the last three weeks, and the family wanted police to be aware of the newly dug sites.

“It’s a working farm,” Brannan said. “When an animal dies they have to either bury it or drag it out into the woods.”

Haleigh, who vanished on the night of February 10 after being put to bed by her father’s then-girlfriend, had been the focus of an intense search in the weeks following her disappearance.

Though more than 4,000 leads have been received, police have no clear indication of what may have led to the little girl’s disappearance or her current whereabouts.

‘Cobra’ still searching for Haleigh Cummings
July 10, 2:34 PM
<snipped>
Haleigh Cummings has been missing for five months and both the search for her and the media interest in the case have waned.

Misty has told conflicting stories since that dark Monday night when the 5-year-old vanished.

Cobra is a father of five and began his search for Haleigh upon the prompting of Richard Grund, whose son, Jesse, was once engaged to Casey Anthony. Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter. Caylee was missing for several months before her remains were found on Dec. 11.

Cobra is convinced that a member of Haleigh’s immediate family had something to do with her disappearance. In a radio interview conducted in Mar., Cobra reveals his belief that Misty was not at home when Haleigh went missing and she was having an affair with another man around the time she married Haleigh’s father, just weeks after the little girl disappeared.

Orlando criminal is not a Satanist. Less 80's, more justice, please.
July 4, 5:55 PM
<snipped>
Florida has been a hot bed of horrible crimes this past year or so. The entire nation has watched with a mixture of voyeuristic addiction and repulsion the stories of Casey and Caylee Anthony, Ronald, Missy & Haleigh Cummings, and now, the seeming horror of poor Tracy Ocasio.

No mention of religion was made regarding the Anthony Crime. The Church served as background for the memorial. There was no end of swearing to God while lying. Prayer vigils were common and the community leaned on ministers and pastors to get through the pain. Yet, a religion that teaches that to spare the rod is to spoil the child, or that demands that God is loved above children was never a subject in the crime or the medias interpretation of it.

The Cummings case also was void of the religion of any of the "persons of interest." We do not read in the newspapers what religion Misty Coslin Cummings follows. We do know that the marriage of Cummings and Croslin was originally supposed to be a Baptist affair but became a civil one because, we must suppose, of the shotgun timing, or perhaps simple good taste.

Local Bounty Hunter Searches for Haleigh Cummings
Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 9:30AM
<snipped>
It's been five months since 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings disappeared from the bedroom of her family's trailer home in Satsuma, a rural community north of Ocala National Forest. Haleigh, with her blond hair and eager smile, captured the attention of the Nancy Grace media brigades just after the memorial service for the previous missing-Florida-child-of-the-moment, Caylee Anthony.

But since then, law enforcement officers have searched 4,000 leads and come up with no suspect in a case they are treating as an abduction. Most media outlets have stopped sending camera crews to Satsuma. Yet a Fort Lauderdale bounty hunter has made the search for Haleigh his mission, investing thousands of dollars and jeopardizing his day job as a bail bondsman in his quest.

Soon, Staubs became convinced that a member of Haleigh's family committed the crime. On the night she disappeared, Haleigh was at home with Misty Croslin, her dad's 17-year-old girlfriend, whom he later married. Haleigh's mom, Crystal Sheffield, had custody of her daughter every other weekend.

Staubs is still working on the case and claims he's racked up $50,000 in expenses and lost wages on the search. Even if he finds the missing girl alive, Staubs says he wouldn't want to return her to either of her parents. "It's a turmoil of s*** up there," he says.

Search for Haleigh Enters Another Month
Posted: Thursday, 09 July 2009 3:15PM
<snipped>
Five-year-old Haleigh Cummings has been missing since February 10, 2009, when she was reported taken from her father's home in Satsuma, Florida in the care of his 17-year-old girlfriend--now teen bride, Misty Croslin-Cummings.

The results of the second roundtable meeting with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, The Putnam County Sheriff's Office and others involved in the search for this missing girl are expected soon.

The first roundtable meeting nearly a month ago produced the surprising information that several pieces of evidence previously gathered by techs had not yet been analyzed.

go through.

Law enforcement has been very tight-lipped about the Haleigh Cummings case recently other than the information released on that search and the results of the first roundtable discussion of the case.

Putnam County Sheriff's officials have stated repeatedly that no one has been cleared in the investigation. They have also repeated their frustration with Misty Cummings and her inability to provide a consistent timeline for the night Haleigh disappeared.

Just when there is a hot lead to pursue, the trail suddenly stops with either an arrest or the informant(s) gets cold feet and refuses to cooperate any further.

It is also fair to say that about 95% of these informants are just individuals who looking for a way to interject themselves into a national story. They have no evidence in the case whatsoever.

Some of our other more credible sources tell The Sky that there may have been a change in the lead investigator into the Haleigh case. We shall see if this is true.
