I wish my dh was one with the bird world right now. We have a pair? set? of egrets trying to build a nest and we keep trying ti discourage them. After the scaffolding and ladder, boombox, mylar balloons ,etc, dh went off in a huff and returned several hours later with a smile. He thought I'd think owing a drone would be cool.

Just don't let him spend a lot of money on it (the egrets might destroy it) and make sure no one see's it. Um, it kinda goes with the "harassing wildlife".
Did you guys ever think about just knocking down the nest before they started laying? Or putting a big stuffed animal in the nest?
If worse comes to worse, you could always put up a bird cam and stream it on the net. :floorlaugh:

281129 is locked up in a max security unit that houses death penalty inmates and the worst of the worst, I would think it's obvious that it ain't no Disneyland.:facepalm:

It's an irrevocable trust, so the money is "supposedly" going to go to 2 charities, if it doesn't go for the appeal. I'm sure there's a attorney for the Alexander's who's gotten the Trust documents and is working on some type of seizure request for the account.

DH and I walked around the house today checking things out. We found another robin's nest with just one egg in it, that egg had hatched and the poor little thing had died. This nest was just about 60 feet from the nest on our deck. I read that some robins will make many nest and just lay 1 egg in 3 or 4 different nests. Wondering if it's the same robin? Makes me also wonder if she has any more nest with just 1 egg in it? :thinking:

Posting off my own post

It is NOT the same robin! I was going to remove the nest with the dead baby in it. Put on my gloves and went other side of the house where the nest is build on top of the wound-up-hanging garden hose. Imagine my shock when I saw 2 tiny blue eggs in there!! The dead baby is still in the nest! About that time two robins come at me screaming, "GET AWAY"!! I backed off and left.

Been looking all over for info on this...can't find any. Then again...the are wild birds and must know what they are doing here (leaving the dead bird in the nest). Will see what happens.....

Mylar balloons and loud music weren't working to stop them from trying to build/rebuild a nest, so after speaking to animal control - who uses "air cannon's" to discourage nest building. DH thought I'd be OK with a drone more than an air cannon.


"The past few years several neighborhoods in North Texas have been bombarded with thousands of egrets, reports CBS affiliate DFW.

An estimated 4,000 adult egrets in 2011 found a home in trees lining a street. The birds stained the street, sidewalks, and made it hazardous for neighbors to even go outside.

"It was so bad we had an umbrella, gloves, safety glasses, and a carbon filter mask," said Allison Baughn.

The city's goal is to disrupt that nesting pattern enough so we don't have a repeat of that high concentration of nesting that created such a nuisance in the neighborhood."

For the next month twice a day city animal service workers will check more than a 150 trees for nests in targeted neighborhoods.

On Wednesday they used a propane cannon to scare the birds away. The timing of the city's nest abatement program is crucial because once the birds lay eggs federal law protects them. "



I'm sorry people "I'm tired of bending over backwards for nuisance birds ,that number in the thousands that keep you held hostage inside of your on home because their protected. If you have four thousand birds in one spot they ain't that special.

You could stick the Heron in the tree where the egrets wants to nest? I notice egrets bail when the blue heron who stakes out my pond shows up.

And then there's always flight netting, but the birds get stuck in it.
Predator lights won't work, plastic owls don't either.

I'd just get a BB gun and shoot at them, if you don't have any power lines close. Their really too big (the egrets) to get hurt, unless you're using a pump BB gun. A Super Soaker? Paint Ball gun? Nerf gun?:thinking:
