It certainly seems like another sign of his mental deterioration in the days after the crime. Or is there a possibility he had a gun off duty and used it that night?

Yes, the report contradicts the earlier information that he was on duty at the US embassy in Nine Elms until 8pm on 3 March.

Two front passenger doors open seems a bit odd unless there were two people in the vicinity. I mean you get in the car, you pull the door shut..get out of the car, close it before walking off..something about that is bothering me.

Maybe he got her in the car, then she managed to open the door to try to get away and he got out of the drivers side and left the door open, and that was the moment they were caught on camera. It's hard to say since it was probably just a couple of seconds as the bus was driving by. Imo

I’ve a European car and I live in a country where we drive on the left. So my steering wheel is not on the same side as the lever for my bonnet.
Whenever I’ve had occasion to open my bonnet (hood, I guess for US) I open my drivers and passenger door at the same time.

It wouldn’t seem strange to me to see a car with both doors open with hazards on.
(in the UK they also drive on the left.)

I must say I am slightly concerned that this hearing has been over-reported. All the reports in local press etc rely on a syndicated Press Association release.


I just looked online to see what papers are reporting it and it mostly seems to be local papers C&Ping the PA release. The Evening Standard (London’s newspaper) seemed to have reported it initially but when you click on the story it now reverts to a simple ‘WC spoke only to confirm his name’ type story which is more usual in this case.

I’m worried that PA have slipped up here issuing a release that they shouldn’t have given reporting restrictions?

Scottish papers aren’t subject to English law but usually refrain from reporting anything that could prejudice a court case in England.

I wonder if it could be WC initially opened the passenger door from the drivers seat to offer her a lift home, possibly under the pretence of an officer (warrant card) helping out in a car that may pass as an unmarked police car (as another poster pointed out upthread), which may mean the MSM theorising he used his status/warrant card to coerce SE into the car might have had a little more behind it, and - when SE refused, he put his hazards on and got out and then changed tact to ‘arresting’ her under possible a lockdown rouse or simply kidnapping her - whilst this was happening, both doors may have appeared open without needing SE to have complied.

Very intriguing new development.

BBM - or, given the apparent choice of a white Astra, maybe to give first impression superficially of a marked car. I say this as I used to drive white Escort and even though it obviously wasn't a police car it was striking how many times other drivers who were speeding slowed down when they saw me.

Women in Britain vowed to push ahead with vigils on Saturday (March 13) to remember murder victim Sarah Everard and protest about violence against women, despite organisers calling off events after police said these would breach Covid-19 restrictions.

But some women and campaign groups said they would be out anyway while others arranged online events and doorstep tributes for Everard, whose killing has sparked widespread anger and fear about women's safety.

"To all those still thinking of heading to Clapham Common at 6pm tonight: we will be there! Please bring your sadness and your rage," said anti-abuse campaign group Sisters Uncut in a post on Twitter. "Police can ban a mass vigil or protest march but can't stop people walking on their own or as two. Would suggest that all those that can could take a short walk tonight ... " said another user in a post hashtagged #vigilforSarah.

Instead of a vigil on Clapham Common, Reclaim These Streets said it would be hosting an online meeting and asked supporters around the country to take part in a doorstep tribute with candles and lights.

Currently, England is in a national lockdown to stem the coronavirus pandemic and people cannot leave or be outside of their homes except with a "reasonable excuse" and can only be outside with one other person.

The organisers of the Ipswich vigil have said the event will now be held online and encouraged people to get involved on the Facebook page.

I think so. At least in the US we would. I think someone said it's the same in the UK.

Wonder if he has had a full on mental break of some form.... that he had moments of clarity an emailed about the fire arm etc in the hopes that he could reduce chance of hurting someone...
Or he is just a nasty piece of work and has tried setting up his defence..

He could just be a lazy, entitled individual and the armed role comes with too much responsibility ( drug tests etc). My money is on him being very self-interested in everything he does.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring remanded Couzens in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on March 16.

Addressing the defendant, Mr Goldspring said: “Mr Couzens, I am sending your case to the crown court sitting at the Central Criminal Court, what you might know as the Old Bailey.

“You will appear there for your first appearance on the 16th of March.

“I don’t have the power to consider the question of bail. That will be considered should you wish to make an application to the court on the 16th of March.

It wouldn’t seem completely improbable, but I’ve had hood / bonnet latches on both the drivers and passenger sides of my vehicle. Not sure which side an Astra would be. I’m wondering where he had room to park up with both doors open. It’s a busy road with lots of traffic. In Poynders Court car park perhaps. But then would the bus cam have captured him?

The head banging isn't some neurological disorder, <ModSnip>.

Anyone who works in a UK custody suite will tell you tons of prisoners want to knock themselves out, seem mentally unwell to aid their case, or are in a withdrawal rage, or just want to try and kill themselves somehow will all do exactly the same thing. It is the only way they can injure themselves in a cell!

They will either tie their top around their neck (if not in anti strangulation clothing) or smash their head against the toilet bowl.

Him doing it in custody is pretty irrelevant and genuinely nothing significant at all.
