Something made the 911 dispatcher think this could be a suicide. They hear a call with yelling. Why a suicide? Was there a shot they heard? I have to believe there was a shot. A lot of yelling could be anything but why would your first thought be suicide? Why would you think a possible fatality self inflicted or not?

Because they get more calls for suicides than shootings. If you were a dispatcher you become accustomed to certain words, screaming in the background, etc, and sounds that are typical with people finding a body.

I agree. I don't believe LE stated she is alive. For every piece of evidence that is reported by a source outside of the Sheriff's office, consider the source.
The sheriff did say this early on:

Fitzgerald said investigators still have a "100 percent expectation that she's alive," but that even though they've received more than 400 tips, none have been of a credible sighting.

Okay, but I still don't believe the facts point to the incident beginning before Dad's arrival. How did the perps get inside? Did Mom open the door late at night when she was alone with her girl?

If there was no evidence of forced entry, how did they enter? Why didn't Mom call 911 earlier if they had been there for awhile already?

hey there... I don’t know... wish I did, but do look at other similar types of crimes. We always ask that question about why 911 wasn’t called. I think perhaps we don’t think as fast on our feet as we think we would when encountering a dangerous situation. Not sure and I know that is a horrible answer.

Someone did call 911, but didn’t say anything. Not sure what to make of that either, other than fear, maybe?

Unless their front door was cheap or really old, it’s really hard to kick in exterior doors because they usually have steel in them. How do I know this? I locked myself out of the house, with my phone inside and no neighbors home. I attempted to kick in the door, also tossed myself into it-didn’t even budge. Also, it had a glass screen door, which is the one they took, right? So the glass was in place. The perp opened the glass door while kicking in the main door? It’s just not that easy to do. Of course, if the door was a junky old rotting piece of wood, that’s a different story. Or, this is a big, strong, guy.

A deadbolt lock also makes the door more secure, difficult to kick in? I had a break-in and the perps used a crowbar. That was fast and effective. Ugh.

Jumping off your post, this reminds me, has anyone mapped out all the nearby cell towers yet? I don't know how to find the cell towers but I know in other cases the cell towers have been put on the case map. It would be nice to know how many towers are in the area and what the reception is like.

On a related note, I keep wondering how good cell reception was inside their house. If someone was trying to break down the door for several minutes (or shot James at the door right away) I would think the first thing Denise would do would be to call 911. Unless their phone/internet lines had been cut and it was hard to get a decent cell signal in the house. Maybe that's part of why Denise went in the bathroom? Trying to get a better signal? Or if Jayme was hiding with her mom's phone trying to get a call through, could it be why the call ended, due to poor signal? MOO.

We do not know she went to bathroom...a theory as far as I know. I think she was awoken by gunshots...jmo. Not sure what she would do, maybe grab her phone and try to hide but couldn’t. Maybe she had hit 911 or emergency button before she was found...so phone was open to 911 operator?

Not able to link for some reason so here is latest press release from sheriff. In person brief tomorrow. Sorry if redundant. I stepped away from the computer for the evening and am way behind.

Like I mentioned before, I don't think you raise this much hell unless you plan on keeping her alive.

Interesting. That looks more like a wedge being used to pry open the door rather than it being kicked in, IMO.
Maybe it was a combination. He tried to pry open the door, loosened the brass or metal plate that is near the lock, ( the thing that's screwed into the wall, I don't know what it's called, but it is usually where the lock is) and then kicked it open? Jmo

Still doesn’t make sense. Find the second body then, if suicide was the officer’s first thought, classify as murder-suicide. Why classify initially as possible suicide -

Maybe if the first body found had multiple gunshot wounds it could have been a possible murder/suicide if the second body only had a single gunshot wound.

But then if multiple gunshot wounds were discovered when examining the second body it became obvious the second person could not have committed murder then suicide by shooting themself multiple times.

I'm sure y'all have seen this already so I apologize if it's a repeat. I have fallen waaaay behind today. Where are you, Jayme?

100% expectation means something different than 100% proof though. I have 100% expectation that my dog will behave when we go to the park but there's no way I will know until we go. I have no proof he will be, only my past experience that he's usually good.

It is LE protocol to assume all missing persons are alive until evidence is presented that they are not. They are running a rescue mission until they have reason to believe the person is no longer alive.

Atleast for a period of time.

We just don’t see this type of thing (murder to facilitate a kidnapping), with any regularity.

It all comes down to the motive. If we knew what it was, we could get a sense of if she is likely to be alive or not.

Maybe JDC was shot in the mouth or the head, and LE’s first impression and communication was suicide, even though they hadn’t found a gun or additional rounds or anything or anyone else yet. If the 911 operator first classified it as a suicide, maybe it was nothing more than an error in judgment based on what was heard. Unless the 911 operator heard a shot or some other information that a person was dead, it’s unclear.

I'm only on page 22 but I wanted to comment before we move to the next thread.

It’s a major roadway leading to and from a casino. I know it’s not bumper to bumper LA traffic but I stand by what I said. Enough traffic that a single car wouldn’t be noticeable to officers arriving.

I live near a state highway, in California no less, where there are plenty of times at night and other quiet times when there are multiple minutes, sometimes closer to hours, between vehicles. The next town over has a casino and a similarly empty state highway nearby. An area as rural as this really has its own pattern and just because a street is labelled a highway doesn't mean there is consistently traffic. If locals say the road is deserted during the night, I believe them.

I thought that might be the case too, but you'd like LE would be scouring the land immediately around the house over and over if they thought she fled on foot.

I can't figure out why they say they don't think she was abducted, IIRC, but yet say they are hopeful she is alive. She is also not a runaway. What are the alternatives other than abduction, runaway, or deceased?

jmo, speculation only

IIRC LE was not using the word "kidnapped". I wonder if there is a legal or procedural distinction between kidnapped and abducted. I don't think they were hesitant about the word "abduction", just "kidnapped".

IMO only.

If that happened, I wonder why mom and J didn't run out the back door. Maybe they did and there was an accomplice out back?

Good idea but where would they run to and could they do it without the person at the front door hearing them/seeing them? We don't know the floorplan of their house yet but it looks like the deck is on the right side, away from the driveway. You can see the deck from the front door and it's not very far away. If that is where their "back door" is located (on the side deck) it might be hard to sneak out that way. Also, with as far away as the house is and with all the trees, I don't know if they would want to attempt to run through the woods in the dark. I would be terrified to go outside my house if there is a mad man with a gun who just shot my husband. I would risk hiding and calling 911 instead of running outside when there is a gunman out there. JMO.

Oh yeah, I absolutely don’t think they have any evidence that she is still alive.

I must have misunderstood. I thought you were saying that they never stated that they thought she was still alive, which is something I would expect them to say regardless.
