Juror questions of Dr. Dwenger--the director of behavioral health for IDOC.

"A juror asked Dwenger if safekeepers are ever placed in the general population. Dwenger said yes.

A juror asked if Allen may have faked mental health symptoms to stay out of the general population where Allen may have been harmed. Dwenger said that was possible but she had no knowledge.

A juror asked if Dwenger ever heard threats against Allen herself. Dwenger said no.

A juror asked if, while faking mental health concerns, a person could slip truths in a confession. Dwenger said she has seen psychotic people confess sincerely and psychotic people make things up.

A juror asked how a psychiatrist can tell if someone is faking psychosis. Dwenger said in a brief psychotic episode where someone is detached from reality, the clinician has to listen to body language and the chain of the story. Dwenger said if the story is organized the person is probably faking psychosis. If the story is disorganized, not easily followed, and out of chronological order it is more likely the person is psychotic or delusional.

A juror asked what the process is for an inmate with SMI who is a safekeeper. Dwenger said it is the same as for any other inmate.

A juror asked what IDOC's primary responsibility for safekeeper inmates is. Dwenger said safety.

TristanP- replying from previous thread wrt feces smearing:
"No. Is it supposed to have more meaning than him being disgusted that it happened while he was severely mentally unwell?"

My reply- yes, to me saying "Well I won't be doing that again," implies that he did that behavior purposefully.

Libby left the handprint per Cicero. Abby had no blood on her hands.
Thanks for this! I need coffee! I wonder how her hands were clean? RA didn’t say he washed them or even himself in the creek. Didn’t suggest he dumped a water bottle over them or anything… weird. Moo.

-First on the stand was Hammond Police Officer Christopher Gootee
-He interviewed Brad Weber about 6 days after the murders with an FBI agent
-When defense attorney Jennifer Auger asked him if Weber went straight home after work, Gootee said he didn't know

She then showed him a report done by FBI Special Agent Adam Pohl to see if it could refresh his memory
-Gootee looked at the report and still couldn't say if Weber went straight home after work
-Auger appeared stunned and confused
-Gootee stepped down soon after

The questioning was all done to show that Brad Weber was lying when he testified for the prosecution that he did go home straight after work
-Whether or not Weber's van was on the trail around 2:30 the afternoon of the murders has become the central point in this case

Next up was Dr. Deanna Dwenger who is the director of behavioral health at the Indiana Department of Corrections
-She said she had concerns about the 24/7 video surveillance of Mr. Allen and recommended the cameras be removed but it never happened.

She testified that solitary confinement is not good for mental health
-She also admitted that the IDOC has policies to make sure someone who is seriously mentally ill as Allen was doesn't continue to "decompensate"
-She said those policies weren't followed with Allen

During cross, Deputy Prosecutor Diener brought up that Dr. Wala thought Allen was feigning his symptoms
-She didn't say much outside of that
-After this, the video controversy happened. See my other thread for that info.
-Updates to come this afternoon

So it wasn't even his report, just a report written by the agent that was with him during the interview. I can understand even more not wanting to testify to the accuracy of something you didn't even write.

Maybe he had her pinned down somehow or she fainted i don't know it's odd because IMO most people's first reaction would be to reach for the neck wound try and stop bleeding if they were able to.

Why on this lovely blue earth would the ask one agent to read another agent's report and testify on it, they had almost 18 months to prepare, couldn't they have called the person who wrote it, why oh why?

Just questioning what is happening here? Moo

Why wouldn't they just ask the agent who wrote the report? Straight from the horse's mouth as the cliche says. Even if the agents working together only submitted one report for both, why use the one who didn't write it? Very curious, imo.

It is interesting, leaning toward weird, imo, that he was called to the stand, if that’s all he could offer. This one from WANE seems to confirm/ corroborate the way WISH reported it.

Auger showed him a report from Feb. 19, 2017, to refresh his memory. He’d spoken to Weber on that day. However, he couldn’t say if Weber told him he went straight home after work.

The timeline is especially important for the state’s theory on how and when the murders played
out.

I was stunned it took that many days to interview BW. One would think he would be among the very first to talk to.

Spent too much time preparing for the Odinists? :p

If those searches are evidence one is a murderer, I hope they never come after me.

I will agree with you on this. I enjoy gory horror flicks. I enjoy true crime flicks. MEH, I think the google searches are not really useful or probative in any way.

While I am clearly interested in true crime, hence a member of Websleuths, I personally do not like horror movies.

It’s a matter of personal taste, right, and so those of you who do enjoy them have that option.

It would only be an issue, IMO, if you were ALSO recorded at the scene of a grisly double murder commanding two teenagers to do your bidding.

Therefore while I don’t think I’d choose this path as a prosecutor, in RA’s case I suppose they’re trying to depict a predilection on RA’s part for violence.

It’s one approach I don’t really applaud for the P, but I get why they are trying it.

Could someone find the MSM report that said that LE had spoken to BW that same night, either the 13th or the 14th? I swear I saw it pop up in the last 48hrs... was BW the person who's property one of the first LEs entered to look for the missing girls?

Just asking questions

well, I guess if one wanted to make it appear there was some sort of malfeasance with a witness that was very inconvenient to one's case theory one might call someone completely inappropriate to the stand to discuss said witness's initial report. And question them about stuff they don't remember or weren't responsible for documenting. Just a thought, not saying for sure it is what happened here ... ;)

Which is hilarious. My spouse also "loves" the grossest violent movies he can find. Non drinker, non drug taker, non hunter, non gun owner husband LOL has the worse choice (for me) in movies and what to watch on TV. I don't even want to know what kind of podcasts he listens to or internet searches he might have on his phone. I put zero weight on anyone's movie choices and I'm guessing there aren't many jurors who would find his movie choices a direct correlation.
I look at it differently. He didn't just search "gory", "violent", or "scary", he specifically searched Halloween movies by "kidnapping". And he is accused of basically kidnapping two tweens and allegedly killing them. MOO

If I searched movies by "beheading" Halloween movies, and then was arrested for allegedly beheading two victims, it would be more than coincidence and I would expect the jury would be informed of it. MOO
