Mandy asks Patterson if at some sage she began aware of poisonous mushrooms growing in Gippsland.

“I did,” says Patterson.

She says she also found out there were mushrooms growing on her property that were “probably toxic to dogs.” She says these included inocybe.

She says found out about toxic mushroom species in Gippsland that “shouldn’t be eaten.”

Asked about death caps, Patterson says:

I became aware of death caps quite early in this period.
She says she looked up to see if they grew in south Gippsland and found out “they didn’t.”

Mandy takes his client to previous evidence about the search history found on a computer seized at her house. It showed a web page on death cap mushrooms sightings had been visited in May 2022.

“Was that you conducting that search?” Mandy says.

I don’t specifically remember doing that day but it’s possible it was me.

It’s possible that’s part of the process I went through to see if they grew in Gippsland.
Mandy asks: “Did you ever forage for mushrooms in Loch?”

“No,” says Patterson.

Mandy asks: “Did you ever forage for mushrooms in Outtrim?”

“No,” replies Patterson.

Patterson says she did not see the posts reporting sightings of death cap mushrooms from mycologist Thomas May in Outtrim and retired pharmacist Christine McKenzie in Loch.

Patterson says she did not.

She cries more when her lies are exposed than she ever did about her in-laws passing away.

How could someone possibly remember which posts they did and didn’t view on a website full of mushroom posts 🙄

The prosecution did show that she viewed the deathcap posts.

It’s insulting that anyone would believe this, especially when she can’t recall the Asian grocer.

Fairytales indeed.

Erin chooses beef Wellington for lunch

By Joseph Dunstan

Erin says she went through "quite a long process" on what to cook, and while a shepherd's pie had been a hit in the past, that didn't seem "special enough" for this lunch.

"I remembered on really important occasions my mum would make beef Wellington when I was a kid and I thought ... I'll give it a go," she says.

Erin says she'd never made the dish before and confirms the recipe was from her RecipeTin Eats cookbook.

BBM. Ugh this gives me the creeps.

I'm curious if she's really crying. The play-by-play often describes her as getting emotional or sniffling. But are any tears actually flowing?

Of course, it would be nice to view the goings-on so we could see for ourselves. But I'm sure the jurors have a clear view of her face and can judge for themselves how genuinely emotional she is.

Patterson agrees text messages about medical appointments "were lies"

Mandy takes the jury to messages from June 2023 between Patterson and her mother-in-law Gail.

In the messages, Gail asked Patterson about a medical appointment. Patterson later replied and said she had a needle biopsy conducted.

Patterson says:

I must have told them I was having a medical appointment that day.

I think I just said I was having a problem or a lump on my arm checked out.
Mandy asks if Patterson had a lump on her arm.

“I thought I did at one point,” she replies.

He asks if she had been to a medical appointment.

“No,” replies Patterson.

“Had you had a needle biopsy of the lump?” asks Mandy.

“No,” says Patterson.

Mandy:

“Were those lies?”
Patterson:

“Yes.”
He asks why she said that.

She says a few weeks prior she had pain in her arm and thought there was a lump. She says Don and Gail had shown a lot of care in response.

“Which felt really nice,” she says.

The issue started to resolve and I felt a bit embarrassed I had made such a big deal about it. I didn’t want their care of me to stop so I just kept it going.

I shouldn’t have done it.

Is that what you got from that statement? I got, "been a hit in the past.." o_O

Erin Patterson's shopping history shown to court

By Joseph Dunstan

Erin says she went shopping for the vast majority of the ingredients from Woolworths.

She pops her glasses on as she's shown a table the court has previously been shown, detailing her rewards history with the supermarket giant.

A few highlighted items bought on July 23, 2023, included a kilo of mushrooms, filo pastry and puff pastry.

Erin says she's not sure if she'd made the decision to make beef Wellington for the lunch by then, but it's "possible".

She says she bought mushrooms "very regularly".

"At least weekly, sometimes twice weekly," she says.

Pastry was another regular purchase, she says, because the kids loved sausage rolls.

Considering we're on day 3 of the "Erin Talk Show" and so far we've dredged up everything in her life pre deadly lunch, how much longer can we expect the defence to question her? Then the prosecution get their turn as well. Surely there has to be a limit to the time given to her team, especially when what is being discussed seems like it shouldn't have relevance? I wonder how often the prosecution has objected to the details that really have no bearing on whether the deaths were in any way planned?

Yes, these details can show her upbringing, her character and all that, but at the end of the day it's unimportant to me. She either knowingly or accidently killed 3, almost 4, potentially 5 (if things allegedly went to plan) people. Are the defence trying to go for "by reason of insanity" or something? Is that even possible, to pivot at this point and say she did do it, but only because she was mentally incapacitated? Beaten down due to a troubled upbringing, problematic marriage, lack of friends, mental health struggles , body image issues etc, etc.

How many people have really disturbing issues throughout their lives and still manage to refrain from searching for, finding, picking, dehydrating, cooking and serving deadly mushrooms to kill their in laws? Allegedly, and MOO.

😳

Why was the lunch special?
It gives me last supper vibes.
And if you are discussing cancer, how to tell the kids, and mediating post-marital conflict, why invite someone who would like to see your garden...

Erin bought unexplained amounts of filo pastry

By Joseph Dunstan

She says she has "no idea" why she bought large additional quantities of filo pastry in the coming days.

"I'd only bought some a day before, but it looks like I must have forgotten I did that," she says.

"But I made things with pastry all the time, so it wouldn't have mattered."

Erin made 'deviations' to beef Wellington recipe

By Joseph Dunstan

Mr Mandy brings the questioning to the beef Wellington recipe from the RecipeTin Eats book. He asks whether she followed the recipe exactly.

"Roughly. I did have to make some deviations," she says.

"The primary one was, I couldn't find, you know, the big log that the recipe called for ... so I had to use individual steaks so I had to adapt to that," she says.

IMO: I'd say she'd made pretty big deviations. This is chilling.

It’s too late for insanity but I think they’re trying to completely disarm the prosecution with the lying narrative. Which is their job.
Which isn’t working, it’s just reminding the jury that she’s a compulsive attention seeking liar with no credibility, IMO.

Can’t wait for cross.

I hope there’s a limit on how long this self absorbed Erin show carries on for.

More on Erin Patterson's beef Wellington

By Joseph Dunstan

Erin says she sought help from her Facebook friends about "doing what I was going to do" in preparing the beef Wellington and the cut of meat.

"I took a photo of the eye fillet steak twin pack and sent it to the group and asked them if this was the same thing, and one or two of them said yes," she says.

Erin says the different meat meant the quantities of mushrooms and pastry needed to be different.

"Because if you make a log and cut off slices to serve, you end up with something that looks like a steak but it's got the mushroom and pastry around the circumference," she says.

"But if you make it as individual steaks like pasties, you've got the mushroom and pastry on the topside and bottom-side rather than the circumference.

"You'd use a lot more [mushroom and pastry]. I used a lot more."

Understatement of the decade.

Yes, she did add a lot more...
