As for the question someone asked about if Australians have matching crockery 🤣

I’m trying to word this delicately, but will probably fail.

The only people I know in Australia who have a mish mash of plates are; uni students, young men (early 20s), recently divorced men, and, people who live a chaotic messy lifestyle, like hoarder types or people who generally don’t care about aesthetics, and or people with substance abuse issues. Maybe very old widowed men also. They don’t seem to care as much about these things.

I’ve never met anyone middle aged in a family setting in a nice home who doesn’t have at least 4 matching plates.

Edit; actually I have a friend who is a hippy type ceramic artist. She has so many different plates but they’re all beautiful and hand made, and she’s an exception.

We don’t have a lot of poverty in Australia due to our social welfare network. Nobody here can’t afford a $15 matching dinner set from Kmart.

Prosecution recaps toxicologists comments to Erin in hospital

By Joseph Dunstan

Tanya Patterson previously told the court that during her visit to Erin Patterson, a toxicologist entered and said that Erin was fine and well enough to go home, Dr Rogers recaps.

She also told the court that Erin had flagged low potassium with her and a doctor, who told her that her levels were fine and not as low as might be expected in someone who'd had severe diarrhoea.

"She indicated that they were fine that morning, yes," Erin says of the doctor's comments on her potassium levels.

Prosecutor: 'Are you making this up as you go along Ms Patterson?'

'"I'm glad you're well enough to drive to Phillip Island", he did it in a really sarcastic tone,' she said

Simon has a point there. Erin said that she drove the kids to school. And then asked Simon to take her to the hospital, I thought at about 8am.

Remembering the kids school is on Phillip Island (as per my previous link) .... an hour's drive each way.

3.28pmAccused disputes timing of conversation with nurse in Leongatha HospitalBy
Prosecutor Nanette Rogers, SC, is now asking Erin Patterson about the evidence given by Leongatha Hospital nurse Cindy Munro, who earlier said in court that she told Patterson that her the children could be unwell and needed to be taken to hospital.

Patterson said she was puzzled by Munro’s evidence since the nurse told the court the conversation happened about 11.45am on July 31, 2023 – two days after the lunch – and Patterson’s estranged husband Simon was already halfway to picking the children up from school.

“It wouldn’t have occurred at that time, and I don’t remember having that conversation with her at all,” Patterson told the jury.

Patterson said she was baffled by Munro’s evidence that it was the first time the nurse had heard about the children, since she had told Dr Veronica Foote and Dr Chris Webster two hours earlier.

Patterson said she did not recall telling Munro that her children were unwell.

“I don’t remember talking about the children at all with her,” Patterson said.

Patterson also disputed the timings provided by Munro.

“I remember discussing with Dr Foote about the children needing to come in before I spoke to Simon on the phone, which was well before 11.15[am] when I spoke to him. I think nurse Munro is a bit confused about the time of that conversation,” she said.

“I did not say anything about not wanting to cause any hassle. That was not the issue.”

Patterson agreed she had told hospital staff she didn’t want to stress or worry her children.

Simon’s ‘sarcastic tone’ in exchange over picking up the children

By

Erin Patterson has disputed more evidence given earlier in the trial by Cindy Munro, who was working as a nurse at Leongatha Hospital on July 31, 2023.

The accused disputed Munro’s evidence that as the nurse inserted a tube in Patterson’s arm, the mother of two told her “she did not want any of this”, she did not understand why she was having IV fluids and she did not want “any interventions”.

“That’s what I was in hospital for, to get treatment,” Patterson told the jury today.

“She’s taken a different angle on what happened. That’s my memory.”

Patterson said she went to hospital expecting to receive fluids in her arm.

Prosecutor Nanette Rogers, SC, has now taken Patterson to evidence from her estranged husband Simon Patterson. Simon earlier told the court he received a phone call from Patterson while on his way to Dandenong Hospital, and she told him she had been at Leongatha Hospital and reported to staff that she had fed lunch leftovers to the children.

Erin Patterson agreed she told Simon she was going to be admitted to hospital and that she wanted to pick the children up from school herself. She agreed Simon responded to her: “I am glad that you feel healthy enough to make that drive to pick up the kids.”

In his evidence, Simon said Erin Patterson paused before agreeing that he should pick up the children instead.

Rogers: Do you agree that you paused?

Patterson: I have no idea.”
Rogers suggested Patterson had agreed that Simon would pick up the children because if she insisted on doing the drive it would undermine her being unwell.

Patterson: The only thing I remember out of that interaction is when he said that: ‘I’m glad you are well enough to drive’ ... I remember he said it in a really sarcastic tone that put me off a bit.

Rogers: Are you making this up as you go along, Ms Patterson?

Patterson: No.”

I suggest to you I am learning a lot about Australia with this case. Main thing is that the town of Leongatha is teeming with horrible liars, except for one persecuted, honest soul. It's remarkable how this brave woman has managed to keep to her integrity despite the bad influences all around her. Her kids and family and friends and doctors, all of them liars, and yet she has persevered in spite of it all.

Agree or disagree?
I take offence to your agree or disagree, and respond with.... Incorrect.

Patterson probed about diarrhoea claims

Patterson said she spoke to health department officer Sally Ann Atkinson (pictured) while at the Monash Medical Centre on August 1.
Dr Rogers said Ms Atkinson asked Patterson about her symptoms and she said she had diarrhoea, had felt ill on Saturday night and Sunday, and then at midnight got 'explosive diarrhoea'.
'Did you say those things?' Dr Rogers asked.
'Probably,' she said.
Dr Rogers suggested that was different to what Patterson told Simon and Ms Cripps about her symptoms
Patterson claimed said she'd already had some loose stools but wouldn't classify it herself as 'diarrhoea'.
The trial is on a quick break.

Patterson grilled on what she told sister-in-law

Patterson's sister-in-law Tanya texted the accused on the Monday evening after the lunch and asked if she wanted her to come and visit on Tuesday.
Dr Rogers said Tanya rang Patterson who told her she felt 'nauseous and dizzy and tired'.
'I haven’t seen the text message… but I likely sent something like that,' Patterson said.
Dr Rogers said Tanya said she asked to see Patterson but hospital staff didn't have anyone of that name and she couldn't remember her maiden name.
'I called Erin and she came out of her room and said "I'm here",' Dr Rogers said Tanya told the jury.
'Agreed,' Patterson said.
Dr Rogers suggested Patterson was 'well enough' to 'pop her head out the door'.
'I think I did pop my head out the door,' Patterson said
Patterson again denied she knew Don and Gail were in comas at the time Tanya visited her
'I did not know that and I do not think they were [in comas],' Patterson said.

“She’s taken a different angle on what happened. That’s my memory.”
This is like one of those sayings you can use in the workplace when you don't want to be directly calling someone a liar

Erin concedes she 'may have gotten things a little bit wrong along the way'

By Joseph Dunstan

Dr Rogers asks Erin Patterson if she told child protection worker Katrina Cripps that she had stayed in the car after dropping her son's friend home after the Saturday lunch because she believed sitting could "act as a cork and prevent an accident" in relation to her diarrhoea.

Erin says she possibly did, but "if I did I think I was getting confused with the drive the next day" to Tyabb.

"I suggest that what you told her about sitting down acting like a cork to prevent an accident was untrue ... you were not fearful of having an accident," Dr Rogers says.

Ms Patterson repeats that her fear of diarrhoea did not exist at the time she dropped her son's friend home on Saturday night.

"I had had a lot of people ask me the same questions over and over, and I felt unwell and anxious ... confused and stressed," Ms Patterson says of her mindset when Ms Cripps was asking her questions.

"I was doing my best to answer everyone's questions, but I may have gotten things a little bit wrong along the way."

The other day when I was googling Beef Wellington recipes, the majority of the top spots on google were pre-made Beef Wellingtons. I’ve also seen them at my local butcher pre-made.

Exactly 🤣

I’ve learned a lot from you about coffee and its effects during this trial, @LinasK 🤣
Sorry for that, TMI. I've debated about some of my posts...

I’m not a coffee drinker and didn’t know it was a diuretic and or acts as a laxative. I really should have known this, I’m not a spring chicken 🤣

A lot of Aussies drink coffee but I think because we are more British culturally than US folks, many of us drink tea, whereas I think in the US it’s much more coffee oriented!?

So thank you for the education 🤣

If you were being honest and truthful there would be consistency with the the stories and no need for mixups... it's hard when you have to recall every lie you've told hey Erin?

Doctor said Patterson was 'fine' less than three days after lunch

Tanya gave evidence Patterson said she had low potassium, was on medication and needed a blood test.
Hospital toxicologist Dr Varuna Ruggoo came into Patterson's room while Tanya was there.
Dr Ruggoo said Patterson was fine and well enough to go home.
The doctor said Patterson's potassium levels were as low as expected in a person with diarrhoea.
Patterson said she didn't recall being told that.

Prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC asks ErinPatterson about the evidence of TanyaPatterson who visited her while at Monash hospital on 1 August 2023.

Tanya is married to Matthew Patterson, the son of Don and Gail Patterson (Erin’s in-laws), the court previously heard.

Tanya said that while she was visiting Erin a toxicologist entered the room. She said Patterson asked the toxicologist how her potassium levels were and were fine and not as low as they expected for someone with diarrhoea.

Erin agrees the doctor indicated her potassium levels were fine.

Rogers turns to a conversation Erin had with child protection worker Katrina Cripps where she reported having loose bowel movements on the day of the lunch - Saturday 29 July 2023.

Cripps said Patterson told her that she dropped her son’s friend on the Saturday after the lunch and remained in the car so the seat could act like a “cork” to ensure she did not have an accident.

Patterson says she might have used this word but cannot remember saying this.

Rogers says if she was worried about soiling herself she would not have driven her son’s friend home. Patterson says she did not have diarrhoea when she took her son’s friend home.

She says she did not experience diarrhoea until “late in the evening” on the Saturday.

Erin rejects claims she wanted to make out she was 'seriously unwell'

By Joseph Dunstan

Dr Rogers recaps to Ms Patterson that she told "many people, including health professionals, your children, child protection workers and Simon Patterson" that she was suffering from nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

"The reason you told so many people you were unwell ... was because you wanted it to appear to all of those people that you were in contact with that you were also unwell from the lunch," Dr Rogers suggests.

"Incorrect," Ms Patterson responds.

Dr Rogers suggests that Ms Patterson wanted to make out she was "seriously unwell" with claims of "explosive diarrhoea" and a pain score of seven out of 10.

"I think seriously unwell is subjective. I said what I said," Ms Patterson responds.

bbm - wow the snark is off the charts today.
