Erin Patterson denies she was thinking of ways to ‘cover her tracks’ between hospital visits

Prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC says Patterson used the more than 90 minutes she was away from the Leongatha hospital to work out what to do next week after she realised medical authorities were aware of the death cap mushroom poisoning.

She says tending to her animals and packing her daughter’s ballet bag did not take up the full period she was away from the hospital.

Erin says: “What are you saying I was doing?”

Rogers replies: “Thinking about ways to cover your tracks.”

Patterson says: “I’m sure I did some thinking during that time but it wasn’t about covering my tracks.”

The sharp exchange is one of several during day 29, which appears to have taken a more tense tone than days past.

Rogers shows the court a bowel chart for Patterson, previously tendered, which shows five documented bowel motions on 31 July 2023 while at Leongatha hospital.

The consistency for each says “liquid.”

Mairim Cespon, a registered nurse at the hospital, previously told the trial that after the first bowel movement Patterson told her “it does look like a wee but it’s a bowel motion.”

Patterson says she “didn’t want to think I was an idiot” so explained it was a stool.
BBM. So she just said she has tracks, but she wasn't thinking about them? Better answer: "I was thinking about whether my children would also get very sick."

I'm offended on behalf of all these dedicated health professionals that Erin is accusing of lying or being "mistaken" ............what are the odds they are all incorrect & Erin is telling the truth??

Zip, nil, none IMO

She really is something else.............& not too smart either IMO
I think she's the one who started the rumor that she was smart, because it's certainly not been borne out by anything she's said or done. MOO

Erin Patterson is being cross-examined about her time at Monash Medical Centre on July 31, 2023, after she was driven there from Leongatha Hospital.

Prosecutor Nanette Rogers, SC, has taken the accused to the evidence of toxicologist Dr Laura Muldoon, who earlier in the trial described Patterson reporting that she had explosive diarrhoea “brown in colour” every 10 minutes or so.

“I certainly would have said I had it every 10 minutes for two days, but at its worse it may have been like that,” Patterson told the jury.

She said she could not remember using the word “explosive” to describe her bowel movements, but she might have.

Rogers also asked Patterson about evidence given by Department of Health manager Sally Ann Atkinson, who earlier told the court the accused woman reported starting to experience diarrhoea before midnight on the day of the lunch – July 29, 2023.

Earlier today, Rogers asked Patterson about evidence her estranged husband, Simon Patterson, gave to the trial. He said Patterson reported experiencing symptoms in the late afternoon of July 29, 2023.

Patterson said she remembered Simon and their children being in her room at Monash Medical Centre, but that Simon was there for 10 minutes. He spent “the majority of the time on his phone” in the hospital corridor, she said.

This question made me laugh: "Rogers: Is there a difference in your mind between loose stools on one hand and diarrhoea on the other?"

That's my theory.
Regardless of her guilt, I think it's very likely that they didn't eat the same leftovers.

If say Erin is innocent, I think she invented it to make it seem like she wasn't the only one who didn't get terribly sick.

She's either lying because she's guilty and trying to cover her tracks, or she's been lying to try and make herself look more innocent. If the latter is the case she's failing utterly miserably.

Speaking of cutlery…. I can’t imagine I would want my kiddos eating with death cap tainted knives and forks, even though we know a tiny bit of residue wouldn’t harm them.

I wonder where those went. 🤔
You would hope they went through every photo on her phones & laptop to look for those grey plates. Perhaps she beat them to it by resetting the phones?

Good thought. We often have the plates on the table for the kids bdays for cake , so they would likely be in the background of any birthday cake videos/photos.

It appears as though EP made an error and began telling others about her having gastric problems on Saturday afternoon, when she had described to Simon that she had problems when she was driving her son's friend home, late afternoon. That's when she talked about staying in the car when he went into Subway because she felt like the car seat worked like a cork, or something...

But later she tried to walk that back in court and say "oh no, really I didn't have gastric problems until late Saturday night or Sunday morning.'

Did she change that because she learned that the others didnt gt sick until last Saturday night?
You mean she might be tailoring her testimony to fit the evidence? Nah, she just has the worst memory of all time. —->

During the defense questioning of EP I really thought ‘Maybe she will get away with this. She has a reasonable answer for everything.’ But this cross exam is really showing the cracks. Every other person who has testified is wrong in their testimony. That just cannot be possible. The hole she has dug herself is appearing to get deeper and deeper.

You know, I was actually thinking even during the prosecution's case that they weren't doing a particularly good job.
I felt that the witnesses and time lines were poorly arranged and difficult to follow.
Then during Erin's defence, like you said, she had reasonable answers for everything. So I started to wonder if some of the jury members might be forming reasonable doubt.

But I've got to hand it to Prosecutor Nanette Rogers, and to Erin herself. They are both doing a splendid job on cross examination.
Dr Rogers for asking the right questions, and Erin for disagreeing with every single health professional, child care worker, police witness, each family member (including her own children) and even herself (yep, Erin is even refuting things she's said in front of the court during the days prior).

You couldn't make this stuff up.
Erin Patterson taking the stand in her own murder trial is a marvellous spectical.
It's sure to go down in history as a shining example of what one should never, ever do when on trial for murder.

Yeah, she should have used her right to remain silent. I don’t see how she gets out of this mess she’s created.
