Once they threaten your kids, that's it. I had a crazed woman in an online group in the UK do that to me and she regretted it.

She was anonymously threatening people in our group who she pretended to be friends with.

I have been thinking about this too. What exactly is hard about her life?
She grew up in a stable affluent educated home (sure, maybe some bad things happened behind the scenes, but who knows, really!), she had academic success and great career prospects, she had inheritances akin to lottery windfalls, she had an amazingly supportive family in Simon and his parents - devoted and kind and supportive. Two great kids. No debt. Travelled extensively - including overseas most years.

Sounds like she was living the dream!

What exactly was her issue?

Some people only feel anything when they're hurting or controlling someone else.

So it isn't enough to have things that most people would find great excitement or contentment with.

For them to find satisfaction, they have to cause suffering, loss, or pain in another. They have to witness that suffering, relish it.

That's how they feel like they're winning.

So yeah, she's in prison, probably forever, but she 'won'.

She will never not be a threat to others. Poisoners never change the mindset that causes them to choose to poison. If the prison staff has any sense of duty of care to its charges, she'll never be on kitchen duty, and she'll have solitary accommodations.

What exactly was her issue?

I think that her fortunate life circumstances will be under the microscope during sentencing. She may say she suffered “trauma” but really, she was born to financially comfortable, educated, Caucasian parents. Her background is not indigenous. She came from a two-parent family. I can’t see any aspect with which she would have had it hard or struggled with unfortunate circumstances in her childhood, adolescence and/or early adulthood that would in any way account for the crimes that she committed. She wasn’t raised in poverty, she wasn’t a migrant child, and she wasn’t in out -of-home care or foster care as a child.

If I recall correctly - she went to PLC, a renowned ladies college, for her schooling. Erin had many opportunities to extend herself and get more of an education as both an adolescent and an adult.

I understand that as a middle aged woman, both of her parents died, but it’s not uncommon to have one or both parents pass away as a middle-aged adult. I don’t think that would qualify her as having undergone any special hardship.

We have heard that her parents died of natural causes, so I don’t think that qualifies as anything specifically heinous for the judge to consider in sentencing. It’s not like her parents died as victims of a crime, for example.


So to your point: What was hard about Erin’s life? Nothing, really.

What was her issue: I think her issue is that she’s really angry, mentally unstable and has a delusion that everyone is out to get her. She also has a delusion that she is sick and she has medical problems that she doesn’t actually have.

Erin’s issue is Erin.

I think she planned to kill them all. She would have made her pasties well in advance of the time they arrived, when she still didn't know if Simon would go in response to her last text.

It might be simple. Even if Simon didn't come for her beef, she could still cook something for the funerals, she probably thought. She obviously had no clue that Simon was suspecting her.
