Dr Rogers revealed that the final victim impact statement has been penned by Simon.

Simon said he missed his mum, dad and aunt and their “love of me”.
“I’m grateful that they’re with God and I’ll see them again,” he said.

Here is one behavior of criminal poisoners that I never thought about. It is quite typical for them to target one person specifically and think nothing of poisoning the people around the target. Occasionally it is the way to "hide" the target.

Listening to poor Ian, I think that he and Heather could have both been collateral victims. Poisoners often do it. Erin's tears are worthy of nothing. JMO, she didn't care how many people could die.

Tim Patterson, the nephew of Don and Gail, also has his statement read to the court by a relative.

He says following their deaths he wrote an entry in his diary:

“I wrote in my diary: ‘Why did God decide to end such amazing lives in such a horrific manner? They deserve better than this’.”

Tim says he now finds it difficult to “comprehend this world”. He says:

I still can’t believe that Don and Gail are gone.”

Tim says sometimes it seems as though “they just haven’t seen each other in a while”, as if “they’re still there in Korumburra, sitting by the fire in their cosy living room”.

No, I don’t think so. Maybe video of an incident inside the jail? I’m not sure.

Latest news reports have her saying she still wants to kill Simon, so perhaps something of that nature was caught on tape?

Simon Patterson is mourning – his children, he says, have been left to live their lives without grandparents. His two kids must also face their lives without the kind of relationship with a mother that every child yearns for.

Erin Patterson’s estranged husband, Simon, is having his victim statement read to the court.

Instead, he says, his children live in a broken home with a solo parent. In a world, he says, where almost everyone knows their mother as a murderer.

“I miss my parents and aunt more than words can express and I think of them often,” his statement begins. “My life now carries the melancholy of facing the absence of my parents and aunt.“

Here is some of the statement, in Simon Patterson’s own words:

Their credible love, support, wisdom, knowledge, intelligence, warmth, gentleness, guidance and humor in both spirit and truth are gone. My children, two children, are left without grandparents as a result of these murders. They have also been robbed of hope for the kind of relationship with their mother that every child naturally yearns for.

Like all of us, they face the daunting challenge of trying to comprehend what she [Erin] has done.

The grim reality is they live in an irreparably broken home with only a solo parent, when almost everyone else knows their mother murdered their grandparents. None of these hurdles that my children face are easy for them to overcome. The fact these foreseeable hurdles were actively put in front of them by their own mother is an impact we will wrestle with for the rest of our lives.

That's why I often say that bombers and poisoners are the same. Injustice collectors, extreme sadists, and indifferent to both the suffering of their victims and any others who may be killed or injured by their actions. They're perfectly willing to take out several or even many to hurt one.

Erin's children 'robbed of hope'
Simon said the two children he shares with Erin have now been left without their grandparents.
“They have also been robbed of hope,” he continued.
“Like all of us, they have the challenge of trying to comprehend what (their mum) has done.”
The court heard they are “safe and healthy”, living within a supportive community.
But Simon said it did not change that they now come from an “irreparably broken home with only a solo parent”.
“And almost everyone else knows their mother murdered their grandparents,” he added.
Despite this, he said, both children were “incredibly strong”.
“With help, they’re overcoming the hurdles,” he said.

Simon said the crimes were “immeasurably outweighed by the power of God”.
He concluded that he was grateful for the opportunity to follow in Don, Gail and Heather’s footsteps and to “grow” when it comes to his faith.
“Nothing can impact that,” he said.
The family member who read Simon’s victim impact statement then returned to her seat.
Dr Rogers said there were also a bundle of victim impact statements to be tendered to Justice Beale.
They will not be read out to the court.
Defence barrister Colin Mandy SC said he needed some time before he was prepared to address the court.
Justice Beale adjourned the court until 2.15pm.

I think it was the best choice for his own sanity. He loved this woman, had two children with her, trusted her, traveled with her through the desert. All to end up like this. I just wish him to be able to recuperate, morally. It is a hard, hard road. I hope that his large family supports him.

Her statement, read to the court, revealed a family shattered by grief.

“The whole family is broken. I am brokenhearted,” she said, adding that she had considered Gail a daughter.

Martha Patterson spoke of how her son had been a lifeline, helping her stay connected to others as she aged.

Simon’s statement also calls out the “deplorable” actions of some legacy media outlets.

He details having his home ambushed by the media and says his family have become fearful of strangers. He says:

The children and I have been filmed in cafes and in the street.

He describes the media attention as “dehumanising”. He says:

I doubt I’ll get used to being treated in that way.

Defence barrister Colin Mandy SC said he needed some time before he was prepared to address the court.

Meanwhile the meter is ticking over and legal fees Erin will have to pay are going up by the minute.
Let's see how good Mandy really is.
If he can get the sentence to anything less than life then he's done a good job.
If he can't then he should just turn the meter off and let some of the victims and Simon's children have the money instead. MOO
