Simon’s statement also calls out the “deplorable” actions of some legacy media outlets.

He details having his home ambushed by the media and says his family have become fearful of strangers. He says:

He describes the media attention as “dehumanising”. He says:

I doubt I’ll get used to being treated in that way.

I feel for Simon, I really do.

I guess the media wouldn’t be in his life or the lives of his relatives if his wife hadn’t killed his family. IMO

Why would they not?

Morally, I have no doubt. I am thinking that his will be a very difficult life, on a daily basis. Given that he is not healthy and the only parent. The kids are schoolchildren. I foresee that they will need to be driven to many places. I am thinking of the logistics of their lives.

I wonder what book she is reading now...........
The Count of Monte Cristo? For the Term of His Natural Life?

Nah, both of them were innocent.

Five Little Pigs.

I’m sure the children would be horrified to think that strangers were agonising over how they would get to school or extracurricular activities. IMHO

It’s all such a mess.

Key Event

“Tim Patterson describes the despair he felt after learning Don Patterson's transplant had failed after the lunch.”

I didn’t realise that Don also underwent a liver transplant. Oh, what he must have gone through….. and not survive!!

It’s all such a mess.

In some cases, having recuperated from a severe illness, or even having survived a poisoning attempt, people can step back into their previous lives and go on. They survived, albeit with worsened health.

This would be impossible for either Ian or Simon. Nor the kids. There is nothing to get back to. I feel incredible compassion towards them.

It wouldn't matter if she was. Ugly isn't about the external, it's about what's inside that you show. Lori Vallow is a great example. Conventionally attractive features but an ugliness of soul that shines through. Erin has shown us who she is by her actions, and there's no dressing that up. I think 'can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' is the most forum friendly version of the sentiment. Many others are far less, um, polite.

Simon Patterson begins his victim impact statement

Erin Patterson's estranged husband, Simon Patterson, has his victim impact statement read to the court.

Erin is listening intently as the statements are read.

"I miss my parents and aunt more than words can express and I think of them often," Simon's statement, read by a relative, says.

The statement says Simon continues to be acutely aware his parents would still be alive if Erin had not murdered them.
But I still find it strange that with the attempts on his own life being poisoned and he being fearful of anything Erin was cooking.....

As he didn't turn up for lunch, possibly a bit suspicious. He said he felt uneasy

But why would you let Erin cook any food for his mum, dad, and relatives?

Why take that chance??

He genuinely didn't think anyone but himself was a target. Nobody is hurting more for that miscalculation than he is. If he hadn't been given bad advice about her (and I get it... nobody really thinks the people they know are murderers), maybe he would have realised earlier what a danger she was.

Where is packet gravy today? I can’t wait to hear his/her riveting commentary on today’s sentencing.

Anyone seen packet?
Maybe in court? IMO

Yeah, I wondered, they dropped enough hints they were local. I guess we'll find out tonight if they turn up to report on the mood in court.

I find it absurd that she's not in prison garb. And that her horrible friend is there playing the hero, still. It's sickening. IMO

Everyone is different, but I would be very suspicious if it were my relatives

Especially when Ian Wilkinson said he had been surprised to receive an invitation to Patterson's home about two weeks before the lunch.

I wouldn't even take leftovers for my dog from her

For all we know, he did warn them. Strongly! But they are their own people. Having elderly parents myself they are quite stubborn and will do whatever they please. Simon likely had no control over it but tried. He had discussed not going and his reasons why with them prior. Notice that Gail didn't include Simons name in her diary for the lunch? I think they knew from the get-go that he would not be attending, but he pulled out at the last possible moment to avoid repercussions on the children or visitation or family discord. IMO

'I am no longer Erin Patterson's victim; she has become the victim of my kindness'
Ian said Erin acted with “callous and calculated disregard for my life and the life of those I love”.
“What foolishness possesses a person (who) thinks murder is the solution to their problems, especially people that have only good intentions,” he said.
But he paused and said he offers “forgiveness” to Erin.
He noted though that he has no power to offer forgiveness on behalf of other people.
“In regards to the murder of Heather, Gail and Gon, I am compelled to seek justice,” he said.
“However, I encourage Ein to receive my offer of forgiveness.”
He added that he carries “no ill will” towards her.
“My prayer for her is that she will use her time in jail wisely to become a better person,” he concluded.
“Now, I am no longer Erin Patterson’s victim and she has become the victim of my kindness.”
After Ian finished reading his statement, Erin grabbed a tissue and wiped her nose.

What an extraordinary man.

He is a victim. He was nowhere close to knowing what he knows now.

Imagine another version: Erin tells the family that she plans to return back to church, starts attending services and then one day quietly poisons the communal meal. Because she is angry with Simon or Gail or all of them. Who knows?

She didn't care who'd perish as long as she would achieve her goal. Since she knew Simon would not be there, likely she had other targets too.

She kept dehydrated death caps in the house where her children lived.

They all were dealing with a criminal poisoner and had no idea.
