You know what? Good on Simon. No need to be there today, just look after your kids. That's who they need the most. Take away that witch's power by not giving her the satisfaction of seeing you the pre sentencing hearing. I hope for the best for him and of course the children.

I guess the early charges being dropped, most likely due to lack of evidence, made her think she could get away with this one.

What a shame they didn't get her in the beginning..!

She would have kept on going....

Where is packet gravy today? I can’t wait to hear his/her riveting commentary on today’s sentencing.

Anyone seen packet?

What an extraordinary man.
Erin never deserved to have these wonderful people in her life. People that NEVER would have harmed her only wished the best for her..........

I've never hard of such good people before. The absolute chasm between these wonderful people and her is so wide it can't be put into words.

What most of us would give to have a wonderful in-law family like them. Or to even know such people.

Horrific.

I wonder what video evidence from the Department of Corrections means, like, psychological report or something else?

This link is from my state, but I think it may be the same in Victoria.

The Dept of Corrections is the dept that prepares the pre-sentencing report.

A pre-sentence report may be required after the defendant is found guilty and the court is considering the appropriate sentence.

A Community Corrections Officer will compile the report. They may:

  • interview the offender
  • ask about details on families and friends and possibly get in contact with them
  • investigate previous employment and speak to previous or current employers
  • contact the police for any criminal records and,
  • contact doctors and other specialists and if necessary arrange for them to meet the defendant.
The victim’s circumstances and relationship to the offender will also be considered.

Agree. I am sure the community would be wrapping their arms around Simon and his kids

Honestly reading the snippets of victim impact statements, I found myself quietly raging that the offender decided to do this and ruin the lives of multiple people, as Ruth said, traumatising four generations of family. She should never be released

Apart from what all of the family have said about Don, Gail an Heather, you can tell just by looking at their photos what good and kind people they were...

Two jurors, who cannot be identified, have also arrived to watch the hearing today.

A couple of jurors attending the pre-sentencing. Really understandable, I think. Seeing the whole process through may help them to achieve some closure to this ordeal.

imo

The 'evil' legacy is profound. I would imagine it will affect many generations to come. It will always be a horrible stain on their family, IMO.

Even now, I find it hard to fathom what she did, but reading these victim impact statements really highlights the absolute cruelty and evilness of Erin Patterson's actions. There is never any justification for murder, but to think that she planned this for months and coolly sat there at the lunch watching Simon's family eat her poisonous food, knowing what the outcome would be (except, luckily not for Ian). I've followed some crime cases overseas and little did I think that one of the worse cases would happen right here on our doorstep. And for what? For some imagined slight on Erin Patterson's part? Because Simon's parent's weren't taking her side in their financial disputes? To get back at Simon? Just as well Erin Patterson is an atheist, because if there is in fact a God, she'll be going straight to hell!:mad:

I was just thinking that too. It's so easy to be caught up in the procedural aspect of this matter, and the many lies and inconsistencies and evidence, and the court process - it's been overwhelming. There has been such an over saturation of reporting on it constantly.

But to actually consider the wider-reaching impact on the family outside of the direct victims is utterly profound and deeply disturbing.

And furthermore, these people are deeply questioning their own perceptions, their own beliefs, their own identities. Their suffering is cellular. IMO

Australia mushroom murderer Erin Patterson left me 'half alive', lone surviving victim says

Wilkinson, a pastor in a local church, spent months in hospital recovering from the poisoning, and said on Monday he had only narrowly survived.
He called on Patterson, who said the poisonings were accidental and continues to maintain her innocence, to confess to her crimes.
"I encourage Erin to receive my offer of forgiveness for those harms done to me with full confession and repentance. I bear her no ill will," he said.

"I am no longer Erin Patterson's victim and she has become the victim of my kindness."

BBM : Well said Ian 👏

After this extraordinary man offered her forgiveness, she ought to really think about traumatising everyone more with appeals. But she won't care, IMO.

They were duped by a terrible, murderous (female) conman.

Thanks for the additional info Detechtive, I was not aware of that. Not that I'm in the habit of remembering such details, but I can't recall there ever being a bin inside a corridor leading to toilets, they're always located inside the toilets themselves. I do agree that the time she spent behind that first door was not very long at all, but it obviously has great meaning. I wonder if the ladies/disabled toilet entrance was very near by that initial door, giving her time to dispose of something quickly. Perhaps she was banking on no cameras beyond that first door, and moved quickly once out of sight? Not that I can imagine her moving in any other way than her slow wander, but it could be possible.
Is it a single person stall? Could it just have been occupied so she just had time to try the door and walk back out? Or maybe there was an OUT OF ORDER sign on the door.

Probably unlikely?

It looks as though others are using the bathroom fine after her, so seems unlikely.
From what I read somewhere else, there is a F/M/Disabled toilet in that long hall. Seems like a lot, not sure how accurate that is. IMO
