That bit right there set off too many red flags for me to believe anything he said after that. There is absolutely no way a pair of his pants fit on her in the first place, so that's a bald-faced lie right off the bat. And, as you point out, why did he feel the need to include the information that they were brand-new? Giving too many details in a story is often a sign that it's fabricated because people tend to overcompensate (they want to really sell the story, or not sound too vague.) And I can't shake the feeling that the weird over-detailing is him trying to retroactively make a narrative "explain" whatever evidence is eventually going to come out, if that makes sense? It's all very sus to me.The “brand new” factor is interesting. Why? And this is a generalisation & a judgement but I’m fairly sure a pair living the way they did doesn’t just happen to have a brand new pair of trackies laying around ready to give someone else.
