When an obvious conflict of interest is detected, it is hard to judge the sleuthing as objective. IMHO

What "conflict of interest" have you detected, ShowMe? Everything here is pure speculation, with a sprinkle of opinion, a pinch of fact and a dash of intuition.

No one here has a personal stake in the outcome of this case. Or do they?

:D

I spent the afternoon with my Daddy today then I drove by Bob's house two times and I cried....Where are you, Bob?

Wow! I didn't know there were any updates on this thread! I have always been suspicious of this area NOT the people that live there. They sell fruits/ veggies, store car parts there..But it is a LARGE field that is fenced and is an open, unlocked all day long but locked at night. It is a very short walk from Carnation..Go to the Birds Eye view and go South. You will see the BIG field with all the cars, etc. Then go North you will see the Post Office..Go directly across the street , on Kraemer and you will see the building with the Big, White roof and THAT is CVS! ( If you hit ROAD on the map and look to the South you will see how close Carnation is to this area)

I'm sorry that I keep going back to this BUT does anyone know if the PPD searched this area?? I drove around it several times today and it is a very large area. The back of it is only maybe a block from Carnation..Bob would'nt have had to go all the way around to the main street if he were just out for a walk. It was late July and the heat could have gotten to him. Could he have sat down to cool off and then was overcome by the heat? This pic shows a much better area...

Keep hitting the down arrow on Kraemer until you get to 1194 Kraemer and then hit button to the right to straighten out..See, it's a HUGE junkyard..people get lost in junkyards all the time..I'm sorry if I seem like a broken record..I just want Bob to be found.

Hiya, Dolly! I don't think we know what areas have been searched. I wish we did!

Very interesting.
I don't think anything near the house has been searched.
Good idea.

In the beginning of this missing person case, I wondered if he had been struck suddenly ill or fainted and could not get help.
But, I soon discarded that thought, as it looked like he was surrounded by houses and streets.

Well, I just got a complete un-expected shocker!! The phone rang and it was the Mayor of Placentia. I had called and left a message, then sent an email and hadn't heard back UNTIL just now...He was aware of Bob's case but only by what he has read in the newspaper (according to him) He says the Police do not discuss any cases with the City Offices and usually keep info like that, quiet, due to their investigation. He was sympathetic with Fontelle though and I guess that's because of the way the newspaper had written the story of a long lost love.

Bump for Bob.

In one more week it will be a year since Mr. Harrod disappeared.

Not sure if this pic was posted before. It was on the front page of the Placentia News-Times (print edition) on July 9, 2009. Bob looked really happy...

IMHO: I keep wondering about a couple of additional theories, never addressed by the media or discussed by armchair sleuths. Blogging neighbor moved near time of disappearance, and family of wife are said to live out-of-state, beyond local city, county, or state lines. It seems police could utilize county sheriff or federal resources to investigate any out of jurisdiction connections, but it is doubtful media would ever hear about enlistment of additional resources until after a case is closed.

Wow...what theories are you talking about?? You cant mean that former neighbor that lives across the country that CARED enough about Mr. Harrod to come out and question what exactly is going on? Hmmm...yes, sounds sneakily like he might play a part in this. I wonder what he would have gained from Mr. Harrod's disappearance?

As for the other question/theory, I have to think that if family members put enough pressure on LE they would use other intra-state avenues available like in every other missing-persons case.

Sorry, but can you clarify please?

According to BIL, Mr. Harrod was alive and well when he left the house at 2:40 pm.

The housekeeper arrives at 3:00 pm and Mr. Harrod is gone.

The last time Mr. Harrod can be independently confirmed to be alive is at 10:00 am.

Mr. Harrod's three daughters went to the house the night before and argued about MONEY.

Two of Mr. Harrod's three daughters filed for conservatorship of the estate on Aug 7, 2009. They filed to be appointed successor trustees of the Harrod Family Trust on Aug 28, 2009.

Bob’s friend and former neighbor last spoke to Bob on July 19, 2009, and Bob told him about his love for Fontelle. Bob told him he wanted twenty years with Fontelle before he died. Bob’s friend and former neighbor moved from California to Virginia on July 20, 2009, 7 days before Bob went missing. After Bob went missing, he says he contacted the daughters about putting a face book site together for Bob. He said the daughters never returned his messages.

Not to sound like I’m mouthing off, but my opinion is he had nothing to do with what happened to Bob, and really cared about him. And the fact that he had moved means there was one less chance for a witness to possibly see something related to the crime, IMO. I’d like to know why the daughters never returned his messages when he was trying to help get the word out about Bob being missing. Don’t you think that’s strange?

I am the neighbor everyone is talking about. Yes, I talked to Bob at length on July 19. I left CA on July 20. I was in East TN when I found out. I have NEVER been contacted by Placentia PD or ANY OTHER law enforcement agency. The only people who have contacted me are Fontelle's son, a private investigator for the daughters (that's what he said), an attorney for Fontelle, and a reporter from the L.A. Times. I have been very public about my feeling and my beliefs. I am available at any time to speak to any law enforcement officer. They have my address, phone number, and email address. It looks to me like they just want to sweep all this away as some doddering old fool who wandered away.

Thank you so much CA Exile and welcome to WS!

Do you have a theory as to what may have happened to Bob?

  • #519
I do. But, since I have no proof of any of it, I would rather not say at this time. I was out of work for a long time before we left. I spent most of my day on the computer looking for a job. My "office" was on the front of the house and the window next to my desk faced Bob's driveway. I still wonder if I had not had to sell everything and moved if I would have seen something over there that day.
The thing that makes me the most upset is that the Placentia PD talks big about leaving no stone unturned. Yet, I have not received as much as a phone call from them. Bob and I were (yes, were) very good friends. I have honestly given up hope of him being found alive after all this time. I miss him so much. I just want to know what happened to him.
Next Tuesday will be a year since he disappeared. I was told the OC Register will be doing a story. I will write an essay about him for my blog as well. Thank you all for your help in keeping this case alive.

I forgot to add. Ask me anything you like. If I feel I can answer it, I will. If I do not know, I will say that as well. Maybe since the police are not interested, they might read this board and learn something.
