This case is so sad . My folks are about the age of Bob . Even though it's hard to think about every few years we have a family meeting where the ' after' plans are discussed. I hate it because I don't want to think about it. But both my folks had huge family disarray at the passing of their own parents, so they are trying to eliminate that . The kids in those families were fighting over pictures and dishes and not speaking for months. It nearly tore the family apart. So note from Bob's case, discuss with the elders in your life OR if you are the elder, then discuss with your kids how you want things to go in the event of your passing. It's sad but could save a lot of heart ache.
For example, my folks' house is very nice and worth a lot. I'd rather them sell it now and move somewhere smaller and enjoy the extra $$ made on the sale to take trips and do what they want. That's part of my inheritance,,,,,,, but I don't care. I want them to have fun. They made the money, enjoy it ! I cannot ever imagine a life so greedy and selfish I would consider offing a parent to get my hands on ' their ' money and the stupid thing is .... at 81 years old, sad to say, they didn't have that much longer to wait anyway.
