I'm going out on a limb and saying "trail of blood" was hyperbole, IMO. Unless they meant there was a trail of blood from the bed to the shower or from the shower to the bed....?

People who use knives to kill often cut themselves. He could have still been bleeding when he returned to the hotel.

Do we know why he was in a hotel at all? I thought he lived with his parents.

The wording is odd. You can send someone else to kill your parents and that would make you "responsible" but that doesn't mean you did it yourself. Not that that is what happened here since I have no idea, I just think the wording is odd.

I think they’re just being careful prior to him being charged.

Part of the same pattern from yesterday, where they wouldn’t even provide basic information to protect the process.

The stated reason is a little odd, ‘too keep an eye on him’. Nothing has been suggested to indicate this was a ‘wild’ party particularly as it was held at a posh restaurant where suits were the standard male attire, other than Nick in his hoodie.

Oh, I absolutely agree.

I thought of Mel Brooks right away. I think he’s the last of his generation of comedians and to have Carl’s son, little Rob Reiner then, end up murdered this way was unimaginable decades ago.

I am certain that everyone who was at this holiday party, from Conan O’Brien down through each and every guest, must be in anguish now. All those famous faces wondering now if they could have done anything, said just the right thing, could have possibly saved them somehow.

It is going to affect everyone terribly, mostly grief but also guilt, as in they couldn’t save their friends. Even though they really couldn’t, not when Nick was living in his parents’ home.

Hope Bill Hader isn't experiencing any feeling of guilt. He absolutely shouldn't, but I can imagine him worrying that what he said to Nick put Nick in a worse mood or something.

It's not easy to put all the details together.

It sounds like they'd spent years trying.to be super supportive. I'd be surprised if they turned on him, threatened to kick him out or something.

He's ninety nine years old. Even if he's still compos mentis enough to understand what's happened, I doubt he's thinking about press statements right now. His family or carers may actually be keeping it from him if they think he couldn't handle the shock.

‘Keeping an eye on him’? Nick certainly made his presence known by creating a disturbance, causing a lot of eyes to be on him.

Yes I imagine they were at their wits end trying to be helpful and supportive of a 32year old son living in their home, while the situation deteriorated. Their mistake was misjudging the target of their fears. IMO.

I can understand it too. These are funny people getting together to have a good time.

If their son was withdrawn and struggling at home, they would want to show him that he’s included, important, and maybe even hoped that he’d enjoy himself being in around people who have the capacity to bring light to darkness with humour.

However, I can imagine it might have sadly exposed Nick’s issues and flared up the tensions at home. Especially if he resented his parents, or had feelings of shame or inferiority.

The statements about him glaring, making inappropriate comments, dressing casually and an explosive argument all paint a picture that he was already in a crisis that night. It honestly sounds like he’s a troubled teenager in an adults body, the way it’s been described.

That, and the change in his appearance since 2016, reminds me of few men I knew in my 20s who suffered from schizophrenia, struggled with drug issues and were treated with anti-psychotics.
