The Los Angeles Police Department announced Monday that detectives determined Rob and Michele Reiner were victims of homicide and that their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was "responsible" for their deaths.

Reiner has been arrested and is being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, according to jail records obtained by Newsweek and a LAPD press release.

The LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division announced the arrest following the murders that occurred at the couple's Brentwood home on Sunday. Police Chief Jim McDonnell said earlier Monday that Reiner was being held on $4 million bail, but jail records now show he is being held without bail.

I was shocked that a double homicide would be eligible for bail when I first read bail was set at $4M. The case will be presented to LA County Dist Attorney's office on 12/16 for consideration of filing, and sure the topic of bail will come up again at his arraignment. CA (LA County) bail schedule indicates bond for Murder is set at $2M. It follows the initial bail $2M x 2 = $4M. I'm sure bail will be addressed again at arraignment. MOO

Nick's strained relationship with his parents has been no secret in Hollywood, with his father even making a film with his son about the challenges they faced, primarily driven by Nick's struggles with drug addiction.

His problems seemingly began long before adulthood, with 2012 children's book, A Chair in the Air, about a difficult boy named 'Little Nicky' written by a family friend who was inspired by his unruly nature as a boy.

Nick was an 'intense kid' who 'screamed like the world was on fire', prompting his parents to have family therapy and even inspiring a book about a child with behavioral problems, the author, Alanna Zabel, told the Daily Mail.

Zabel taught yoga to the family for almost ten years, including private classes with Nick.
So when she heard on Sunday evening that the 'When Harry Met Sally' director, 78, and his wife Michele, 68, were found dead with stab wounds in their Brentwood, LA home, her thoughts immediately went to the troubled child she knew.

From an angsty child, he became a young adult with severe drug problems. He had been to rehab 18 times as of 2016, first going around his 15th birthday, and lived on the streets after refusing to go back.

beyond that- to be so loved and to have all those resources and yet-- to be so full of hatred against his parents that he murdered them in cold blood by slitting their throats--to think that he had that in him all these years-- IMO that is the heart of a sociopath-
I have to agree ,he is a psychopath or sociopath because of the millions of drug addicts in the world only a small minority kill and at that ,kill loved ones . Nick had to have some sort of psychological disturbance beyond "average " mental health issues . In photos you can see the demons within him

To slit someone's throat not only shows an intent to kill but a real hatred during the act ,imo this was not a heat of the moment madness this was something festering for a long long time.

I suspect Rob told Nick he was cutting him off on Saturday as a result of whatever happened. I honestly can't see Rob instigating a public argument for the sake of it . I reckon nick did something that warranted Rob or Michele calling him out on his behaviour in front of everyone.

I think Nick has wanted to kill his dad anyway for a long time but as long as Nick was gaining something either financially or materially like a home he bided his time . Once that was cut off he didn't care if he went to prison, in Nicks mind he felt justified in killing them because he has always said they were the source of his pain ,drug use and issues

This is a man who has been to rehab 22 times at a minimum, taking responsibility is not his forte moo

Tuesday, Dec. 16th:
*Initial Hearing (@ 8:30am PT) - CA – Rob [Robert Norman] Reiner (78) & Michele Singer Reiner (68) found dead in their L.A. home on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025 [with throats slit]. *Nick Reiner (32) arrested & charged (12/14/25) with 2 counts of murder. Bond set at $4M. Bond reset (12/16/25) to No bond. L.A. County
Case info: 12/14/25: Reports confirm the distress call came from within the house, placed by the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, who discovered the bodies. The timeline established by the LA Fire Dept. (responding to a "medical aid" call at 3:30pm) suggests the victims may have been discovered hours after the incident occurred, a timeline consistent with a quiet, internal tragedy rather than a chaotic break-in. Upon arrival, LAFD found a man, 78, & a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob & Michele. Multiple sources tell PEOPLE that the killer was the couple's son, Nick Reiner. Nick previously spoke publicly about his long battle with drug addiction & periods of homelessness. Police say Nick, 32, is alive & being questioned. No arrests have been made. While no formal arrest charges have been filed as of Monday [12/15/25] afternoon. The couple's son, Nick is being questioned by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division. Law enforcement sources have identified him as a "person of interest," a designation often used when police believe the perpetrator is known to the victims. Rob Reiner’s troubled son Nick has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing the famed director & his wife, Michele, at their Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources said Monday.
12/16/25 Update: Bond has been changed to NO bond. Initial hearing on 12/16/25 @ 8:30am.

I have seen nick be disrespectful in interviews with his dad. Like he is trying to “ out his dad, for something. In the interview for “ being Charlie” When asked if the movie was good, RR said it was, and Nick replied “ you never said that at first , you basically told me it was garbage” ( paraphrasing) on a live Tv interview. The resentment was so apparent . I can see Nicki doing something like this at a party, making comments that might embarrass or hurt RR. He was a total brat.

According to sources close to the investigation, their son Nick Reiner (32) had moved back into the family’s Brentwood estate only "a few days" prior to the killings, following a renewed struggle with personal issues.

You can see the resentment, ( hate) it is plain for all to see imo

I must admit although I had seen the many films Rob made ,I wasn't aware of him and I hadn't been aware of Nick or the film finding Charlie. So I'm looking at this with "fresh eyes " .

Imo Nick was eaten up by his father's likeable nature .Any success or compliment attributed to Rob was taken as a criticism of himself . This is narcissism in the negative. The narcissist takes success of others as a failure for themselves.

This is an innate part of Nick ,no amount of praise , empathy, love shown or success of their own compensate and no amount of drugs soothe it .there will always exist someone who naturally more resourceful, talented ,richer and intelligent then you . It's it just the fundamentals of life and the law of averages . The need to be the best that gnaws is insatiable as it can't be quenched . It just so happens that the person that Nick obsessed over was his father . It was a roundabout neither could get off .

As the more the father did ,the more the son resented the endurance of his father's love .it was always going to end this way as long as the two where in the same proximity imo moo

I can imagine the guests at that party and Nick asking them
“ are you famous? Did he truly not know or was he trying to make people feel like they were nobodies, like he didnt know who they were, It’s almost antagonistic
