Canada -- Delta plane flips upon landing. Flight from Minneapolis. Pearson Int'l Airport. Toronto. 17 Feb 2025.

Thanks shadow! It’s amazing so many survived that crash. Do you know if the Toronto jet actually landed on its back today?
Yeah, 232 couldn't be replicated in simulation with any survivors. And they tried, with the best pilots they could find. Until Sully and the Hudson landing, it was THE miracle landing of commercial aviation.

I have no idea, I suspect it was flipped by a nasty crosswind, but I haven't been reading deeply into it, just skimming what's been posted here.

MOO

*The crash of a Delta Airlines plane in Toronto is the fourth major aviation disaster in North America in the last month.

I believe it landed, then flipped over. That’s what MSM says.

Once they’ve had time to investigate, they will know for sure.

IMO, the fact that no one died is wonderful.

Hope those in hospital do okay in the coming days.

Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken told reporters that it took six fire engines from Mississauga Fire services, two district chiefs, and 18 paramedic units from Peel Region to handle the accident, on top of the help from airport staff.

“Upon arrival, my team conducted fire suppression, self evacuation was already taking place at this time. We believe all emergency response went as planned. We will however, be conducting a review.”

Aitken said it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate on the cause of the crash at this present time, given it remains under investigation by Transport Canada.

“What we can say is the runway was dry and there was no cross-wind conditions,” Aitken said.

The fire chief adds one other person has been brought to a local hospital, pushing the number of those injured to 18 people. Toronto Pearson says it will provide an update sometime tomorrow.

Crash survivor John Nelson, who was in the 10th row of the plane, told CNN that there was “mass chaos” following the crash landing.

“Coming in, it was routine, but it was noticeable that the runways were kind of in a weird condition,” Nelson said. “When we hit, it was a super hard, hit the ground and the plane went sideways and I believe we skidded on our side and then flipped over on our back, where we ended up.”

After everyone disembarked the plane, Nelson said there was “another explosion,” though fire crews were quick to douse the flames.

“It was mass chaos, I was upside down, a lady next to me was upside down, we kind of let ourselves go and fell to hit the ceiling, which was [a] surreal feeling, and then everybody was just like, ‘Get out, get out, get out,’ we could smell jet fuel,” Nelson said.

The passenger tells the American broadcaster that it is “amazing we’re still here.”

This passenger speaks about the landing.
I think it's quite soon after, and that it may not have hit him yet that he nearly lost his life. He talks quite matter of fact.
I hope he sleeps well tonight, after no doubt a belated being shaken up.
It's interesting, this happens. A crisis, and you deal with it, then boom......holy cow !

Delta's update from 10:33pm ET includes:

No fatalities have been reported and some of the customers initially transported to area hospitals have been released.

Here's another camera viewpoint coming out a couple of hours ago. From this view, it seems that perhaps there was an issue with the landing gear on the right hand side of the AC as it touched down. This is a very short clip of the touch down (as seen from behind the plane).

Wow! I am curious how long it stayed upright? I was imagining the plane landing okay going down the runway slowing down and then some wind catching it and it flipping perhaps after it had been on the runway for a while. This angle shows that the plane had a problem as it first came into contact with the ground. Seems even more miraculous that the plane wasn't more damaged after seeing that video.

As the plane neared the airport, air traffic controllers notified its pilots of about 38 mph wind gusts. “Might be a slight bump in the glide path,” the air traffic worker said. “There will be an aircraft in front of you.”

Within two minutes, the plane had flipped. Fire erupted as the aircraft tumbled, and the plane slammed into the runway, spitting out a huge fireball and leaving passengers hung aloft in their seats
